always a little strange when an author who made the thing you love dies. you didn't know them, but you knew what a bit of the world sounded like with them in it, and now it doesn't sound quite like that anymore :'(

the ari and dante sequel is literally going to snap me in half and render me physically incapable of completing my college applications but nothing is more important then becoming that emotionally destroyed. my priorities can die.

what a beautiful day to remember that alex claremont-diaz is not white, "can't even pass for it" and that this gives us a BEAUTIFUL opportunity to celebrate his culture and his identity as a brown man! alex is half-Mexican and he LOVES being half-Mexican! it's a core part of his identity. more of alex making dinners with his dad, elotes and tres leches and tamales!! bonding with luna over being Mexican and queer!! visiting Mexico with his sister and learning more about his heritage!! speaking Spanish with his family, teaching henry Spanish!! we love this boy, and that means we love ALL of him!!

my first interaction with red, white, and royal blue was some fanart of ellen showing alex a powerpoint that said something along the lines of “it’s fine that you’re gay but you cannot date the prince of england” and like, i assumed that was a meme. i thought it was a joke. so there are no words for the emotions i felt when i read the book and found out that scene actually happens.

i come back to this post daily because it’s been two months since i read aristotle and dante and i am currently 30 days away from turning 16. couldn’t have found this in a better moment to make me SOB

every time i listen to la bamba i immediately think of ari and it makes me so happy
