Crossing one leg over the other as she scanned over her own paperwork, the geneticist's brow would cock as soon as Angela posed her question.

It was a small gesture - absolutely minimal - but she had rarely been given such an offer from anybody else since she had begun to work here. Granted, she rarely spoke to anybody - it was part of her contract - but it was still so stereotypical of Angela to be kind despite her heckling. She didn’t feel bad, but she couldn’t help but chuckle quietly at the irony. Perhaps her visitor deserved a tad more respect if she kept this up.

“Well, I suppose if you’re offering...”

A pause as she reflected upon what wasn’t absolute garbage in the cafeteria.

“Oh look, carnage.”

“I found you beat half to death in a dumpster. When I said I would call 9-1-1 you punched me in the face and said no before passing out.”

“Holy shit you look terrible.”

“Can’t go to my place, I’m making poison in my kitchen.”

“This is the tenth half-eaten corpse I’ve seen. It’s still kinda horrifying but less horrifying than the first time I saw one.”

“Yeah, that’s right, go wander off and commit murder somewhere else.”

Everything about your life makes so much sense now.”

“I don’t know, that sounds like a ‘fuck off’ kind of growl.”

“There’s a girl snorting cocaine off the counter in the bathroom. Just thought you’d wanna know.”

“I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news: some of this blood is mine. The bad news: most of it is mine. And I’m going to pass out.”

“After the fight some dude catcalled me on the way home so I turned around and spat a bunch of blood at his feet. Never seen someone regret doing something so fast.”

“Is that a fucking dragon?”

“That is genuinely disturbing.”

“Don’t smile. You have the smile of a serial killer.”

“Not particularly, no. It’s not like you were barging in and trying to force a conversation... like some people.”

Taking a swig of her drink, she’d inspect the other’s workspace with an intentful glean to her eye. It was a rarity that she’d share her space with anybody but those who worked under her, and there was something particularly amusing about how the medical head and the secret employee were working alongside each other. Did her co-workers even know where she was? It wasn’t as if this section of the building were open to most anybody but the more elite of agents.

At around six thirty in the morning, Angela awoke in the laboratory. A biohazard containment leak forced her own lab to be closed for the weak, and the solution was that she had to temporarily share a space with the new Blackwatch medic. It wasn’t an ideal solution, given that Angela was rather miserable about her own laboratory being uninhabitable on top of being intimidated by Dr. O’Deorain—but she did respect the other scientist’s published works. She was brilliant, and Angela had read all of the older woman’s papers.

Little by little, she would add additional reagent to her beaker, and each time she added to the concoction, she would wait patiently for it to shift in hue. Six hours she had spent mixing and attempting to get the formula just right, but still it would shift to a deep red. Failure, but not unexpected. These things took time. Something she didn’t exactly have much of, but progress was progress. Things this experimental in nature needed to be done by hand, and only by her.

Sighing deeply, she would retreat back to her desk to jot down her notes— something she could have done at the workstation, but she secretly wanted to indulge in some coffee. All night binges were the norm for her, and caffeine was one of the things that kept her going. That, and a shot of whiskey.

As she poured her drink - a lone coffee machine always placed upon her desk for these common occasions - she would take note that her visitor seemed to finally be waking.
