I understand why some people don’t like the scions that’s fine. But I also don’t understand people who, unless they are deliberately rewriting the story to fit this narrative, frame the scions as using the WoL maliciously? I suppose I understand the impetus to make the most tragic little weesnaw who has ever walked hydaelyns fair plane and yes the scions DO treat the WoL like a tool in their arsenal (no moreso than Thancred is treated as a tool for espionage or Y’shtola a tool for arcane bullshittery but I digress) but the actual circumstances are so much more tragic than unfeeling.
I.e. these are your friends who love and cherish you, who in the face of no other options are forced to watch helplessly time and again as you are cast into the jaws of death by their own hand because no one else in the world can pull the stunts you can. They apologize over and over again that they have to ask you to do this. They are fully aware of the magnitude of debt they owe you. And! They never put it all upon the WoL, they are with you every step of the way, often off screen doing their own parts of the job they’ve been assigned. Like you don’t have to be buddy buddy with them if you don’t like them but in terms of pure canon? Those are your fucking ride or die homies and asking them to come fight God #86 with you would be tantamount to asking them to kill themselves for you and frankly they WOULD do it. Because they love you.
