I don't have too many theories about Gears. He's some dude I occasionally work with. I'm fairly fond of him; he's about the only damn person around here I can straightfowardly respect. I do worry about him a bit, because I'm sure he's still feeling all that shit somewhere and it's going to have to come out eventually, but hey. We all have our methods of coping, and I can hardly judge.

I do have a puzzling story about him, though. Once, we were working on something together and it was necessary to spend the night in some dive hotel somewhere. We had this tiny room, barely enough room for the beds and this rickety old table that I didn't even risk putting my camera on because it would have probably collapsed. We're hitting the hay, and Gears is booting up his laptop, so I ask what he's doing. I'm assuming more work, as the man doesn't stop, but he tells me he's putting on something to watch while he gets to sleep.

I'm surprised, I won't lie. It's so normal; I guess I didn't expect it of him. I ask him what he's going for, thinking probably some white noise or something, and he says, "Something relaxing."

He then puts on a car crash compilation video. I'm talking proper crazy car crashes, people flipping and rolling and all kinds of shit. He doesn't have the volume on high, but it's high enough that I can hear all the tires screeching and everything. And he puts the laptop down on the bed beside him, lays back, folds his hands over like a fucking vampire, and goes to sleep.
