The picture on the left is of Aiyana Stanley-Jones, a 7 year old who was shot to death in 2010 by the man on the right, Officer Joseph Weekley of the Detroit Police Department.
During a raid to find Aiyanaâs aunts boyfriend, police threw a flash grenade into Aiyanaâs house. She was sleeping on the couch. Weekley stormed into the home, couldnât see from the grenade, and fired his gun into Aiyanaâs head.
Weekley claimed that Aiyanaâs grandmother had tried pushing the gun out of his hand and it accidentally fired. During investigation there were no fingerprints belonging to the grandmother found on the gun.
Weekley went through two trials for manslaughter and reckless endangerment. He was acquitted of all charges.
When Weekley returned to his job after the trial, he was made co-chair of the Detroit Police Department Committee on Race and Equality.
Weekleyâs brother has been seen on facebook calling the Black Lives Matter movement a âfucking terroristsâ group.
Aiyanaâs father, Charles Jones, is currently in prison for 40-60 years for suppling a man a gun that was used in a murder.
Aiyana would have graduated high school this week.
