Are you tired? Are you taking this survey because you can’t sleep? I am pretty much always tired on some level, but I'm not tired like I want to sleep. I'm taking this survey because we didn't go to the mountain park today due to my dad not feeling well. We ended up going to Natural Grocers instead to fill the void, ahah. Did it make up for the mountain park? No. Did I spend money and buy a bunch of snacks I didn't need? Yes.

Do you have something important to do? Not really. I do want to vacuum my room and wash some of my bedding today, though.

Do you like Jalapeno Cheetos? I do.

Do you wish you had a new phone? I just wish my phone had a better camera. It's bad in low lighting or when the subject (typically a cat) is moving around too much. Otherwise, it works perfectly fine for how I tend to use it - which is mainly for listening to YouTube videos.

Name one thing you ate today? Black licorice. I actually…kind of like it…

Do you like 80’s music? 60’s music? 90’s music? I like music from all of those decades.

Do you find rap music annoying? Not really. Certainly not as a whole. Some songs are pretty catchy.

What song is stuck in your head? Mostly just snippets of rap or rap adjacent songs due to the previous question.

Have you ever been to Germany? I haven't.

Do you drink coffee in the mornings? I normally drink tea with breakfast first thing in the morning, but I will make coffee when I get to the shelter. I also like to drink it while making art after my therapy appointments.

Do you become a fan of lots of things on Facebook? I haven't had a Facebook account for many years now.

What time do you go to bed on school/work nights? Suuuper eary. Like, so early that I'm embarrassed to even say it because I feel like people will be like…what the actual fvck. But I'm operating under the possibly false assumption that I wouldn't be able to squeeze in 7-8 hours of sleep if I went to bed any later. Could be that if I stayed up, then I would be more worn out, fall asleep faster, and sleep more deeply, but who knows.

Have you ever seen a therapist? I am currently seeing a therapist.

Do you get in trouble at school often? I basically never got in trouble at school.

Do you watch videos on YouTube? Yeppp.

Name a song that makes you happy. I can't think of anything atm.

Name a song that makes you want to dance. Hmmm.

Name a song that brings back memories. A number of alternative rock songs from the 90s and 00s make me nostalgic for that time period in general. Also, songs featured on various Rock Band / Guitar Hero games bring me back to my late teens and very early 20s. Kent reminds me of some of my 20s as well.

Does the song above bring back good or bad memories? A blend of good and bad and in between, made rosier by that deceptive veneer of nostalgia.

What decade do you think is the best musically? I'm partial to the 90s and the 70s.

Do you take a long time to get ready in the mornings? Depends on what I have to do to consider myself ready. On animal shelter mornings, it tends to take me around 40-50 minutes.

Do you wear a lot of makeup? I don't wear any makeup.

Have you ever written poetry or fiction? I have.

Do you regularly use a blow dryer? I don't.

When was the last time you went to church? Many years ago.

Would you date someone who was a different religion than you? I'm not 100% opposed to it, but I can see how it might complicate things if our beliefs weren't compatible or if they put pressure on me to convert, etc.

What is your best subject in school? Used to be English or pretty much anything that wasn't math related.

Name something you do nearly everyday. Nearly, hmm…drive, listen to classical music, eat crockpot stew, etc.

Do you take surveys a lot? I haven't been as active over the past couple of months.

Are there any bugs you find cute? Which ones? Lady bugs, moths, little butterflies, pill bugs, bees (although I do also find them a bit scary just because I don't want to be stung).

Have any keys fallen off of your keyboard? How did this happen? o: None. I did have a keyboard in the past on which most of the letters were worn away. It was like some sort of UFO control panel.

When was the last time you felt stuck in a rut? Did you get out of it? How? I feel like I'm starting to find my way out of the rut I was in over the last few months.

Would you prefer to live in the city or the middle of nowhere? Why? I don't think I would want to live waaay out in the middle of nowhere because the commute and lack of convenience would probably be too much for me, but somewhere a bit more rural might be nice.

What is your earliest memory? Fragments of when we still lived in Louisiana. Attending pre-school, the "moving islands," our backyard, playing with my friends, etc.

The person who annoys you the most: What’s so irritating about them? There is one person who irritates me, but thankfully, I don't have to spend much time around her at all. We mostly just mutually ignore each other.

Do you remember irrelevant things easier than the important things? I suppose if they're truly important, then they're more likely to stick in my brain because I'll focus on them and think about them repeatedly, but that can also be the case for things that are more on the irrelevant side. Annnd sometimes I can just randomly forget or procrastinate important things, so...hmmm.

Do you sleep easily at night? For the most part, although there are nights that are more restless than others.

Out of everywhere you’ve ever been, where was your favourite? You know, I'm not sure. Lots of places come to mind, but these days, probably the mountain park because it's so familiar and peaceful.

Where would you like to travel next? I don't have any actual travel plans, but one destination on my bucket list would be Japan.

Do you prefer scarves to keep you warm or as flimsy accessories? More as accessories. I don't normally wear them for keeping warm.

Do movies ever inspire you to dress like the characters? Name a few: Not really. There aren't any that come to mind, anyway.

Do you own any clothes that used to be your friends' / relatives? Yeah.

Who do you know that shares your birthday? Of course I don't know him personally, but Albert Einstein. I don't know anyone IRL.

What are some of your interests? Volunteering, cats, spending time in nature, photography, art, the paranormal, religions, history, etc.

Do you care more about people’s basics or what makes them unique? I'm not sure. I guess it depends on the person or the context in which I'm interacting with them…?

Are you a shy person? I am still pretty shy, socially awkward, etc, but I have come out of my shell a bit more in recent years.

Do you watch any educational TV shows? Which ones? I like to watch educational channels on YouTube.

What is one of your favourite items of clothing? I recently bought a pair of coral-pink scrubs to wear at the animal shelter and they're really light and airy and comfortable.

What colour is your dream car? I'm happy with the car I have now, which is red. I don't really have a dream car. Mostly, I just want something that runs reliably and is easy to drive.

Do you like your music loud or soft? Soft for the most part, but there are times when I like to crank up the volume.

Can you sleep through things easily or does it need to be deadly quiet? Total silence leaves me at the mercy of my thoughts, so I prefer to listen to something on YouTube. Aside from that, I do prefer for it to be fairly quiet.

What are some of your favourite words? Susurrus, murmuration, tintinnabulation, halcyon.

Do you believe you only find true love once? No. Also, I think love is more like a gradient or a color wheel than something plainly black or white, true or false, and I feel like we put it on a pedestal and mystify it unnecessarily compared to other emotions. I don't think people spend so much time questioning whether or not they're truly happy, truly sad, truly angry…you probably get my point.

When you see lyrics as survey titles, do you guess the song they came from? Sometimes I can. Obviously depends on whether I know the song or not.

Do you prefer live or studio versions of songs? Studio.

Are you open with people? I'm slowly opening up little by little, but I wouldn't consider myself anywhere near an open book.

If you’re not interested in something, do you find it hard to pretend? Yeah.

If you could learn one skill, which would you choose? I want to sing. I have always LOVED singing, but I can't do it well. <- Same. I would also love to be really, really good at art.

Would you want to see your future, if you could? Nooo.

Do you ever feel a huge sense of dread? Yeah.

Can you give directions easily? (Map directions, not as a boss) It's a bit difficult when I'm put on the spot. It also depends on their starting point - like trying to give someone directions to my house starting from where they live, etc.

Do you get overly offended when people criticise you? I am still quite sensitive to criticism, even the constructive variety.

Is there anyone you don’t know, yet you still dislike heavily? Who / Why? Eh.

Can you deal with being told what to do? I am regularly told what to do at the animal shelter, so sure, in that sense; but I guess it does depend on the circumstances and how the person is going about it.

What do you find most attractive about yourself? Physically, probably my eyes. Personality-wise, I guess I have that whole Pisces thing going on. Dreamy and silly, yet also capable of being quite thoughtful and analytical.

What is one of your biggest fears? Is it irrational? Losing my dad. No, it's not irrational, it's inevitable; but some of my surrounding fears about things completely falling apart as a result could be irrational in the sense that it might be possible to get to a stable enough position in my own life before it happens.

Do you daydream often? Ehh, sometimes. I get lost in thought a lot, but I wouldn't really call it daydreaming.

A distinguishing feature of yours: What is it and do you like it? I don't think I have any distinguishing features. I do like the way I look, but I also think I have a relatively generic and forgettable appearance.

Who was the last person that invited you to go somewhere? Did you accept? Riley invited me to her birthday party next Sunday. It's going to be Stardew Valley themed, which sounds really cute. I did indeed accept.

What was the last food item that you toasted, other than bread? I'm actually not sure. I haven't even toasted my GF bread for the last few months because our toaster is full of regular bread crumbs.

Have you ever named any of your pets after a cartoon character? I haven't.

At what age did you get your first CD player, if you can remember? Like a portable player? Probably around middle school age.

Do you remember the first CD you ever owned? What was it? We already had a little collection of CDs when I was a kid, but regarding the first CD I purchased with my own money, I'm not sure.

Have you ever owned any music on cassette tape? Again, my parents already had cassettes, but I don't think I ever purchased one for myself. They were already kind of falling out of style in favor of CDs.

At what age did you begin using the Internet, social media etc.? Internet, probably late elementary school. Social media, probably not until late middle school or early high school. Some of the first social media sites I joined were Xanga, VampireFreaks, and Myspace.

Do you remember what you were doing last night at 9PM? Sleeping.

When was the last time you wore a hat? What kind? I wore a beanie when we went out grocery shopping earlier.

What was the last thing you wore that belonged to someone else? This silly colorful caterpillar dog costume that I found while Riley and I were searching for Winnie the Pooh themed toys in the shelter attic yesterday afternoon. It was too small to wear it properly, so I just sort of fastened it around my head. When you have absurd expectations put upon you, the only way to cope is to fully lean into the absurdity. I got back for my afternoon shift and was asked to deep clean the back of iso in addition to everything else. We managed, though…we three amoebas. ;D Although, sadly, the Winnie the Pooh litter photoshoot was drastically simplified due to the time constraints.

The last time you saw your sibling(s), what were they wearing? I haven't seen my sibling for over a decade, so I no longer have any idea what they would have been wearing.

When was the last time you ate a bowl of ice-cream? What flavour? We had it in paper cups because that was what was available, but yesterday afternoon. I brought in a few pints for an early b-day celebration and had them with Liv and Riley. We offered Helen some as well. The flavors were creamy mango, butter pecan, and chocolate peanut butter.

How far away from your house is the nearest library? It's about a 5 minute drive away.

When was the last time you were at a bookstore? Did you buy anything? A couple of years ago, I went to Barnes & Noble with my mom. I can't remember if I bought anything, but my mom bought me All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot as part of a Christmas gift. We also stopped at the Starbucks inside and got something to eat, but idk who paid for what.

What colour are the shoes you wear most often? How long have you had them? Black and white. I think I've had them for approaching 2 years.

Are you content with your social life? I suppose so. It's not something I'm desperate to change at the moment, anyway.

What is something freeing that you’ve done recently? I guess ketamine therapy? For quick reference: "In your brain, there’s a chemical called glutamate that helps nerve cells talk to each other. What’s your favorite thing to put on a tortilla? Beef or chicken, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers; or something like bananas, peanut butter, and honey.

Do you work better alone or in a group? It depends on the project. For something creative, I would prefer working alone. For something more physical, a group would probably be fine.

When did you last go shopping for shoes/socks? A couple of years ago or so.

What’s a good midnight snack? These days, I'd probably go for a handful of cereal, chips with dip, grapes, etc.

What are 3 essential items you won’t leave the house without? Water bottle, phone, and wallet (which in addition to my cards usually holds my migraine meds).

Do you ever shop at Walmart? What’s the last thing you purchased there? Yeah. That's where we do our weekly grocery shopping. We got mixed greens, carrots, one sweet potato (they were almost entirely out and the ones that were there didn't look that great or were just too huge and weirdly shaped to work well for my needs), bananas, pickles, gum, bread, cookies, sliced turkey, potato chips, coffee creamer (one for me and one to take to the shelter), bagels (shelter), cream cheese (shelter), strawberry poptarts (shelter), granola bars, cereal, pancake mix, yogurt, cat food, 3 pints of ice cream (to take in on Tuesday to celebrate Riley's upcoming b-day)…and maybe a couple of other things that I'm forgetting...

Do you consider yourself to be more of a loner or outgoing? I wouldn't really call myself a loner, not anymore; but I'm not super outgoing either.

Do you have any giftcards? For where? The shelter gave me a Starbucks gift card a couple of weeks ago. I went in on a Sunday afternoon because they took in two bottle baby kittens and Lexi was overwhelmed dealing with them in addition to her normal vet tech tasks and iso, so I helped out in iso. Lexi also got me a drink from Starbucks the following morning as a personal thank you, which was super sweet of her and so good. I have some other cards as well, but I can't remember which ones I told my dad to just give to one of his friends. I also need to check to see if I have another Amazon card to redeem...

Have you ever sold anything on eBay? I've purchased from eBay before, but I've never sold anything online.

Do you ever read your old surveys? Honestly, quite rarely. I will reread extremely recent surveys, but the older they are, the more they make me cringe. Which kind of makes me wonder why I'm storing up an archive of things I don't even want to relive…except for the art and photography; those are things I do enjoy seeing again.

When was the last time you received flowers? I think that would have been for the volunteer appreciation dinner in 2024. Also, yesterday, I picked out some leftover plants from the plant sale that took place last Saturday. Katy told us to just take whatever we wanted because most of them were starting to wither anyway. I got a spider plant and something called a clockwork orange (?). They're up on the hutch with my pothos who magically survived the winter, my general neglect, and my total absence of a green thumb. I'm thinking of getting them some proper containers and maybe some new soil the next time I go to the store. I also want to see about maybe finding a way to hang them from the hook in the family room, which would provide them with much better lighting than the dim dining room.

What was the last series you finished watching? Do you have any plans to begin another? I can't even remember the last time I watched full series through to completion. No, I don't have any plans to watch anything new.

Did any bad situations happen for you today? Just the slight headache I had earlier, but that wasn't enough to stop me from going to the mountain park with my dad.

Are you usually wide awake in the mornings? Nooo. I feel so groggy, sluggish, stiff, and achy.

Do you normally have nightmares or good dreams? They're usually closer to nightmares than good dreams…but mostly they're just weird.

I'm probably overthinking this because there are so many ways to "interact" with people in the internet era, even if the interaction is limited or one-sided, but let's just go with probably yes. I've definitely been home alone for an extended period of time.

Where were you going the last time you were on a train? I've never been on a train before, but if you want to count one of those nice travel buses, I think we were on our way home from a Rockies baseball game.

Have you ever been significantly more physically fit than you are now? Current me can't believe past me used to go backpacking.

When growing up, did you parents keep the house very tidy? Not obsessively tidy, but fairly tidy. A "lived in" space.

Are there any ways in which you greatly differ from everyone else in your family? I differ greatly from individual family members in certain areas, but as for my family as a whole, not really. It's not like I'm the obvious black sheep or anything. We're all weird in our own ways.

Should teenagers be allowed to have their cell phones with them in class? Man, I don't even know what's considered acceptable in class anymore.

If so, what was the reason? For quite some time now, the only reason I've had for blocking anyone would be spam / scam accounts.

How many cups of coffee do you typically drink per day? Lately, one or two. One at the shelter and maybe one with my afternoon snack (except today I had tea).

When was the last time you spoke to your parents? I spoke to my dad when I was downstairs making my snack. The last time I spoke with my mom was back in March, I think? Or late Feb.

What’s the biggest financial mistake you’ve ever made? I'm not sure.

What is the coldest month of the year where you live? I looked it up and supposedly it's December. I would have guessed January or even late January to mid-February. I just don't think of December as being all that cold. It certainly wasn't last year. Pretty sure I recall some days breaking into the 80s.

When cooking a meal, do you clean up as you go or wait til you’re done? Depends.

Do you develop crushes easily? No.

What’s the longest you’ve ever stayed as a guest at someone’s house? I'm not sure exactly how long I was there, but I spent a good chunk of one summer with my god-parents in Pennsylvania.

Are there any colleges or universities in the town you live in? Yeah.

Do you use a passport wallet when you travel to other countries? I've never traveled outside the country.

How bad was your acne when you were a teenager? Not too bad. About the same as it is now. I just thought I would be done with zits at this age.

So, what are you doing later? I don't have any plans for later, but I was at the animal shelter earlier, came home, showered, did some vacuuming and sweeping downstairs, ate lunch, and now I'm here. Maybe I'll see if I can find a movie I want to watch.

Whose birthday did you last celebrate? What did you do? Kelsey's, back in March. She had a group of friends over for hot pot. Some of them played a tabletop game while some of us just watched. Also, she's coming back to work next Wednesday after taking a few months off for her knee injury!

Who is your favorite male singer? Hmm.

What kind of computer are you using? A Dell desktop.

Are you listening to your favorite song right now? I don't even know what I would consider to be my favorite song these days.

What is your favorite day of the week, and why? Saturdays. I'm off on Saturdays and Wednesdays now, and for the past few weeks my dad and I have been going to the mountain park on Saturdays.

Why do you think people lie? The deepest root reason? Probably fear of some variety. Which then manifests into all kinds of secondary reasons.

How often do you watch television? What do you watch? Basically never. Briefly while in the waiting room for my therapist. Otherwise, I just watch YouTube or movies online.

When was the last time you burned any part of your body? Probably my tongue on some hot coffee recently.

Do you hate when people invite themselves to events? I don't experience this issue, so I'm not sure how I would feel about it. I guess it would just depend on who it was, etc.

Do you take off from school, or work for your birthday? I don't work, but I don't take off from volunteering.

If you attend school, what do you do on your days off? I'm not in school either, but as I mentioned above, the mountain park has become a Saturday thing. Every other Wednesday is therapy, except for recently it's been weekly due to ketamine therapy. I had my second round last Wednesday. I think it's making a little bit of a difference…? It's hard to say what's real, what's a placebo effect, or what's just a good day because of partially unrelated reasons. Oh yeah, and we also go grocery shopping on Wednesday mornings, and every few weeks I will have a hair appointment.

If you smoke, what color is your lighter? I have a few lighters lying around. Red, black, lime green…

What is missing from your wardrobe that you need to buy? Like, normal every day nice clothing. My outfits have devolved into pretty much everything being some sort of shelter garb or pajamas. I need regular pants, regular shirts…something that would actually make me look a bit put-together.

Does someone owe you over twenty dollars? No.

What city, state and country do you live in? Colorado, USA.

Is there anything you want to say to someone? Not really.

Are you really pale? If so, do you mind? I am pretty pale, but I don't mind it.

Are your nails painted? What color? They aren't.

Do you listen to any acoustic bands, or singers? Probably sometimes.

How many arm chairs are in your house? There's a blue armchair in the family room.

Do you have a favorite YouTuber? Who? If I had to choose…maybe the brothers from Belief Hole. But I watch so many channels that it's pretty much impossible to have a single favorite above all others.

Do you think roses are an overrated way of showing love? I guess that depends on how the person you love feels about receiving roses…?

As for an arachnid, most likely a spider, but there was also a dead scorpion on the small porch area on the side of the house just recently. At first I wasn't sure it was even dead, but I let it be, and when I came home from the shelter yesterday night, ants were eating it. This morning, it was completely gone.

If you could do anything at all today, what would it be? Anything at all…maybe have a Hobbit-style picnic at a warm mountain meadow full of wildflowers. Watch the billowing clouds drift by, the butterflies and bees. Go for a meandering hike... But my actual day has been nice too. I got up early to go grocery shopping with my dad, had my therapy appointment (first ketamine session!), and I just finished making some art. After I finish with this survey, I'm going to make lunch and relax until it's time to leave for the dinner later.

What's your drink of choice? (Coffee/tea order, alcohol of choice, pop, etc) Before all else, ice water. When it comes to coffee, I'm not that picky. I like it instant, black, with creamer, iced, so decadent it's basically a liquid dessert, etc. Tea, I often take it plain or with a bit of milk or creamer. I don't drink alcohol very often at all, so no drink of choice there really. I also don't drink much soda; however I have been reallyreally craving full sugar Coke, so I got some at the store earlier. Gonna maybe have some with lunch in a bit.

What's your hair routine like? Anything special? Wash it, dry it, attempt to style it, get a haircut every few weeks, nothing special.

What's your favorite way to travel? Is there a mode of travel you haven't done that you want to experience? Depends on how far I'm going, but driving, I suppose, as long as it's in-state. Cross-country, I would probably begrudgingly opt for a plane…idk. Maybe not. I would like to try train travel, though. That sounds like a possibly more pleasant alternative to driving or flying.

Favorite month of the year and why? October. Peak autumn vibes. Leaves in bright transformation. Cooler weather, longer nights. Halloween approaching. Seasonal foods. The promised descent into the increasingly cozy territory of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Truly, I just love autumn as a whole. Thanksgiving and Halloween compete for favorite fall holidays, but the sad thing about Thanksgiving is that it means the autumn experience is almost over. So, I love the aesthetic and the nostalgia, but I hate feeling like I'm grasping on to the last little threads. Ughhsdfj. Maybe if I could live in a dream world where it was always cycling through autumn. Although…you know…I have been appreciating springtime lately. Idk if it will ever replace winter as my second favorite season, but…hmm.

What's a piece of advice you would give to yourself five years ago? I had a lot of good advice coming my way as it was, so I don't think anything extra would have made a significant difference. It was more about learning how to apply advice, learn life lessons and skills, etc.

Is this the best year of your life? No. It hasn't been the worst year of my life (far from that, thankfully), but it has been a bit of a bummer so far. Between the situation with my mom that felt largely out of my control and desire to tolerate, some health issues with my cats (one in particular who had me really worried), and my own ongoing issues, it's been a struggle lately. It's like I hit a promising peak a couple of years ago and I was feeling more hopeful about everything, but I've been gradually losing momentum. Both physically and mentally, I just cannot keep up with that same level of intensity, but it wasn't even like I was doing all that much before. It's frustrating.

What was the best thing that happened to you last year? Getting put on cat iso after Pam quit. I thought it was going to be a temporary arrangement, just until they hired some new vet techs, but I'm still doing it! It really strikes the perfect social balance for me because I primarily work alone, but I still have some opportunities to be around others, especially during my afternoon shifts or if I help out in cattery for a bit after I finish with my morning tasks. Only downside is that it's less flexible because if I miss a day then someone has to be pulled from medical or cattery to cover it, whereas I used to just be a supplementary person in cattery, so it didn't really matter whether I was there or not. Recent health stuff with my kitty Esther really put my people-pleasing self through the wringer because I hated to let them down, but I didn't want to be away from her, etc. It was a whole internal war; some battles were won, some were lost, and more than ever I realize just how much I need to learn how to be true to my own needs. My kitty seems to be doing much better, though! Idk if we're out of the woods yet, but I feel like I can breathe and begin to let my guard down again.

Do you ever feel ashamed when you cry?: Sometimes. It really depends on why I'm crying and who's there to witness it. Could be fine, could be absolutely mortifying.

What are you thankful for?: My dad and my cats, the opportunity to volunteer at the shelter in such an integrated capacity, my friends, a safe place to live, enough food to eat, being reasonably financially comfortable, etc.

Have you lost anyone close to you to death?: Unless pets count, then no. I have lost grandparents, but we weren't close.

What did you do last night? Volunteered until 5:00pm, came home, showered, ate dinner, cleaned the litter boxes, fed the cats, had some tea and chatted with my dad, and that was pretty much it.

Who did you talk to on the phone last, why? My dad, the other day. I just called his phone so he could locate it, and he answered to let me know he'd found it. Aside from that, the last time was with my mom.

Who was the last person you got into a big argument with? My dad, years ago (although we did get into it a little bit this morning over something silly). Or Alex. Surprisingly, not recently with my mom. That severing was insanely quick. I'm not even sure it would count as an argument because there was barely any back-and-forth.
