I think that's everything covered! :D A complete, updated Trudy to the best of my lack of ability, as well as a masked Trudy (or ninja Trudy, as she's unofficially been called over the years) who is far more alert and disapproving, ears and all. Maybe she caught a glimpse of Eggman... or Lanolin. Or maybe she's annoyed that her arms are too small and I gave her four fingers by accident instead of five. FML.
Upon completion, I figured it might pop out better if the background wasn't eye-piercingly white, so I turned it into a starry night sky. Her clothing may still be blue(ish), but now in her own way distinct from Sonic. After all, she would never want to replace him, only to... immerse with him. π
So now that it's complete, let me go over all the changes made in total and anything else that I feel is worth pointing out. Some of them I mentioned in previous updates, others not:
-Obviously, the blues are now more turquoise excluding the gloves, which remain icy blue. It's still very much meant to be more blue than green with the specific shades of turquoise that are used.
-She now has a little bit of muscle in her arms in order to convey her strength in spite of her condition, though they tend to be most noticeable when she's actually exerting her strength. Her muscles are intended to be on the slender and subtle side, not too large or wide like Boom Knuckles, even though the way I drew them makes them look like tumors. I tried my best. ;_;
-As you'll notice from the masked shot, her top is like a vest in reality, which isn't immediately obvious since it's usually covered up when she's not in masked form. This was always the case and isn't a new thing, but it's not often shown for the aforementioned reason, so here it is again nonetheless. If you look closely, you can barely see a little bit of peach on her chest.
-The scarf fills the role of the bandana and the cape in one fell swoop to keep it straightforward. Both ends of the scarf are meant to drape over each shoulder all classy-like and to allude to the cape, that's why the one on the opposite end can be seen behind her tail. They're like a spiritual stand-in for pegasus wings. :3 I hope you appreciate my attempt at dynamic lighting by shading the inside of the scarf so that it looks better. :P
-The disconnected white line patterns on the bottom of her vest and the top of her boots are there to visually allude to clouds, in keeping with the subtle (kind of) nature motif going on with her colour scheme.
-The brown cuffs for the gloves are tighter around her arms, instead of being loose like Rouge's cuffs.
-The boots now go above her knees ala Rouge but with an arch, and they lack cuffs like most Sonic characters' footwear. Also added a light blue pattern to the toes of the boots to accentuate the pointier length compared to Amy's boots, maintain the overall colour balance at play, and also because I remembered that nearly every Sonic anthro has some kind of toe pattern going on with their footwear, so this should help it feel complete without it feeling cluttered. They look like Sonia's boots in execution, but she's not in the games so it's free real estate.
-Trudy herself is the same as always. I would never change any of that floof. The ponytail being virtually the same as the actual tail has always amused me, and also provides a silhouette that you can instantly attribute to her.
-They're not shown here, but her whip and bow remain unchanged in their designs. The whip still looks like an extending riding crop.
I hope you all like her new-but-mostly-identical look. βΊοΈ

What do you think about Sonic having PTSD or experiencing emotional trauma in the mainline canon series or some fan work?
I don't think it's necessary for a character like Sonic. He often gets portrayed by fans as secretly being depressed and miserable behind his happy mask due to all he has experienced, but that just isn't who Sonic is. You use him to help other characters with complicated feelings lol.
Sonic can have emotional reactions to scenes that warrant it, but they need to work with his character instead of against it. That's also why fandom's obsession with Sonic crying is pointless, as he's not the type to bust out the waterworks when he's under emotional distress. Not publicly, anyway.

The intent with Eggman Nega was to show that he's really nothing without Eggman's resources. He vows to restore the Robotnik legacy after Eggman ruined it, but he fails too.
If that was the goal for Rivals 1, why did they go right back to hyping him up again in Rivals 2. Him being turned into a card/crushed by debris happened more or less because the good guy stopped the bad guy, not because Eggman specifically outplayed him and proved he was the superior of the two.
I've seen this interpretation pop up a lot lately, and while I don't want to immediately say that everyone who abides by it must be inhaling copium, it does give off the same reasoning as those who defend Scourge under the framing that he was meant to be a parody all along, or fans who defend the IDW villains spending so many issues and real time months shitting on Eggman for the same logic they use to defend Nega. You can isolate some details, but the complete picture is saying something very different. You might recognize this as being the exact same problem that makes Eggdad discourse a fucking nightmare.
I just don't think it's feasible to do anything with Nega that doesn't undermine Eggman, unfortunately. His schtick of copying Eggman with a veneer of doing it better is ingrained into his DNA too much for its own good (as opposed to someone like Mephiles, who at least has unique aspects going on despite physically resembling a Shadow recolour), and any angle you could take with him, such as "this is an Eggman if he went fully insane", would be far more compelling for a hypothetical arc if it was the real deal instead of using a less interesting donut steel to cop out of it.
not every mutual fits neatly into an archetypal medievalism but there are some mutuals that im like yeah addressing you as βmy liegeβ would come strangely naturally
Unsurprisingly, Sonic. By the time of mid-2004, I had been in the fandom for a year, and that was when I started lurking on forums, which occasionally included people's fanfics. I forget much about the first one I ever read other than it involving Sonic finding a Death Egg-esque superweapon in a desert, but I do recall being confused because Fang suddenly appeared at one point, and I had no idea who this Nack the Weasel guy was at the time.
5. Do you feel more invested in the canon or fandom of your current fandom(s)?
It's my belief that if you give the characters their canonical personalities, it makes the fandom material you create for them all the more stronger, because it's actually them and not generic entities cosplaying as them.
I realise this is easier said than done when you apply... mature themes into franchises that don't consider such things, but that's part of the fun innit.
18. What makes you back out of a fic immediately?
For Sonic fics, you know what I'm going to say. Regardless of whether he's the main villain or not, the instant they soften Eggman or downplay his credibility, you can call me 007 with my Licence to Close. I've endured that shit for two decades, I have no more patience for it, and certainly not in a post-Fronters fandom landscape.
For more general grievances, there's the usual ones like demonizing Character A so that they don't get in the way of Characters B and C. There's also when a fic that starts off fun starts to gradually derail into misery because the author's soapboxes are taking precedent over everything else: that one has happened more often than you'd think.

That more bitter-than-sweet feeling when you find a video that actually somewhat criticises the series for leaning too heavily into Eggdad, but only after they spend the majority of it saying they still like Eggdad and thought Frontiers was an interesting direction for him and Adventure era was peak threat (ignoring the recurring elephant in the room) and nothing he did in the Pontaff games mattered because Baldy McNosehair and Forces pissed on everyone's wives and literally almost killed the franchise (trust me bro) and repeatedly suggesting that Eggman needs a softer side or else he's not compelling
It's like SonicTubers shudder at breaking away from the most popular narrative for even a second, so they have to triple down on everything else to compensate.
