Mugen Boyfriend (Friday Night Funkin) W.I.P Character Sprite Preview.
Hey everyone, updates from the dev desk! We have a new guest character coming down the pipeline, but he's causing trouble already.
A new character is coming to the Pico’s School fighting game project, and he’s trading his microphone arrows for direct combat!
Here is a sneak peek at the Work-In-Progress (W.I.P) sprite sheets for Boyfriend (FNF) as a guest fighter in the Pico’s School MUGEN Project.
While I am still heavily focused on completing the classic cast and finishing up the last two character from last years, BF was too highly requested to pass up.
In this preview, you can see his redesigned idle stance and basic movement frames. I wanted to move away from his usual hunch and rhythm-bop to give him a grounded, aggressive combat posture inspired by the legendary Mindchamber style.
He fits right into the gritty, classic Newgrounds era.
I’ve completely redrawn his frames to give him a true Newgrounds fighting game scale, making him look older, sharper, and ready to clash with the likes of Pico, Darnell, and Cassandra.
Expect microphone whip strikes, speaker-box drops, sonic rhythm waves, and a special 'Max Mode' inspired by hitting a perfect streak.
This project has been a solo labor of love for years, and creating these custom sheets takes time.

As for his lore in this engine: Boyfriend handed Otis a note begging to join the roster.
Otis was asleep at the time, but BF woke him up demanding a spot! Pico is away on other business,
so Otis and I are running the show. BF thinks this fighting style looks cool, but he’s going to have to be patient while I code his full combat moveset.
Don't worry, the core focus remains on completing the classic Newgrounds roster. But adding BF as an unlockable guest gives a fun, modern nod to the community that brought Pico back into the massive spotlight.
