I forgot to take a picture of them close together, but the size difference is hilarious and I love them.
Also, I thought it would be funny for the Speaker to actually be able to sing her song (Speaker with a speaker, get it?) so she also have a secret pocket where I put a small music device that plays her music, but my dumb-driven-by-this-heat ass forgot to take a video of it in function so, you know, it's there, yay!

Here is my custom doll of the Asset, from Guillermo Del Toro's The Shape of Water. I've literally been working on him for years since I would get short bursts of inspiration, only to hit a creative wall and put him away for months at a time.
While I approach most projects with a clear goal in mind, this really wore away at me since I wanted him to still look like a Monster High character, the Asset's design is incredibly complex and detailed. I would spent like 5 hours sculpting something, feel like it looks off and then get really dejected and put him away.
It eventually reached a point where I realised it had been a year and a bit of chipping away at his sculpt that I pushed ahead and primed him in black. Of course, that just made me aware of his flaws more, so I just put him away, then every few months or so I would block out his patterns and placements in pencil.
It wasn't until I saw Frankenstein in theaters that I finally felt brave enough to push on ahead with this custom, since it got me back in a GDT mood, and I rewatched The Shape of Water as well.
I realised that I was getting too caught up in the minutia of details and opted for the "vibe" of the look instead to finally get me over the line with finishing him.
It took me years to finally finish this custom but I'm so happy with how he turned out.
My custom "The Shape of Water" Asset doll was made using a Gil Webber doll, and a lot of sculpting on top.
His base coat was black but I found that adding a thin layer of gold really makes him pop, as well as hand painting all the markings in metallic blue. It was such a daunting task trying to map out The Asset's body since he is full on naked and an outfit wouldn't hide all my painting sins.
His face was definitely inspired as a mix of his movie look and the Skullector Black Lagoon doll since I still wanted the graphical nature of Monster High faces to shine on this doll.
I've wanted to do this custom from the day I saw The Shape of Water, and honestly if I wasn't so invested in the movie I would have given up years ago, but I'm glad I didn't. I feel like I've lived a million lives since then but it's fun to finally cross this project off my list.
The Shape of Water has emotionally resonated in me and this doll is a small part of what the movie means to me.
Here is my Shape of Water custom Asset doll with my Creature of the Black Lagoon dolls. I feel like it's fitting that he draws so much inspiration from those stories and a good reminder that Del Toro's unfaltering need to show off his inspirations has inspired me to not be so ashamed of my own inspirations.

So, this was my plan for making a goblin that went a bit sideways on first try. You ever find fabric so cool you buy it without specific idea? That's what happened here. I try not to accumulate fabrics without goal in mind bc I'm slow at actually using them, buuut I'm really glad I got this diamond pattern, it's so great for this scale!! Wasn't easy to make sharp corners tho ><
Initially I planned not a hat but a hood (homestuck flashbacks), but this black isn't cotton and isn't very cooperative unfortunately. And I had to add wire in its tail to make it behave as I wanted
Flute made out of toothpick is also a backup plan, I wanted to use lyre aaand can't find it, it might be somewhere in storage x_x Maybe it's for the best, flute worked pretty well with that face!
Just as previous, this one used slightly modified Mini13 as base, head + hands + torso + feet modelled by me. And I even remembered to take a photo this time. They nekkid ><
