thimble and julien I will always be obsessed with your dynamic. We’re 31 episodes in, only like 9 of those feature them at the same table but oh my god. like the fact that they both clearly don’t really like each other but are so deeply similar. They’re both lethal and sarcastic and vengeful and very shallowly beneath all that they’re so hurt and so lost in the world left in the wake of some of the worst things that could’ve happened to both of them. And the fact of that both of them share the loss of and desire to save the Golden Orchard. Like sure you hate each other but when you imagine your childhood you run through the same gardens.

And the part that makes me the most buckwild is probably that they’ve also been uncommonly kind to one another at points. Like Julien spitting on the body of her best friend, grabbing her wings, and then also telling her that Twig’s okay. And Thimble shitting on julien every chance she gets, reminding him he isn’t her better and is a piece of shit, and then bringing him his father’s blade. Also thimble thanking julien and him yelling FUCK like it’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to him. Oh seekers table v2 I’m so excited to see how their dynamic evolves more.

More seriously though, "only human on muppet island" jokes aside, I truly genuinely love the suggestion that the Revelry's disaster of a fight is in part because the Plank King massively overstretched his organization and resources trying to take over Nicodranas. Like yeah, that's what happens to organizations when they have scope creep, overtaxed bandwidth and limited budget, constant turnover (such as via defenestration...) reducing deep organizational memory, and hostile leadership keeping everything and everyone on edge. Even when they do have talent or assets (mage assassins, dragon turtle under contract) their gross inefficiencies become indistinguishable from incompetence, and these advantages are squandered. And it can happen fast! A year and a half ago the Plank King totally may have had competent aides. His second in command could probably better interpret his communication. But everyone is stressed and burned out and disorganized and there are no employee assistance programs in Darktow. And in the face of a single massive high-stress event - such an attack by the hypercompetent M9 - all of the assorted weaknesses give out and everything absolutely collapses at the seams. Sadly you were just bad at business, Plank King.

I actually don't want Azune to be secretly related to a Sundered House or be lost royalty or whatever.

Royalty isn't special and the divine blood of kings is a lie, they are just descendants of the people who were nasty enough to hold onto power. The Sundered Houses aren't special and worthy of power above all others, either. It's all a lie enforced with violence, Primus being exhibit A.

Azune is something else, I think, outside that power structure. Something perhaps supressed by the Shapers in the same way that whatever gave Teor and Cyd their Paladin gifts seems to be unknown and parts of the Old Path lore have been lost.

Yes, Azune is very much using the Einfasen's belief in their inherited superiority against them, which is extremely valid of him.

I was joking about Thaisha's metal spine being a sort of fantasy scoliosis representation (for those unaware the corrective surgery for scoliosis involves the insertion of rods and screws into your back to hold the manually straightened spine in place) but...

I am now remembering that her PC Decima from when she guest starred on Bards of New York also had various magical metal prosthetics (that heated up!), and that Aabria mentioned in the Study Hall interview that she irl had multiple sports related injuries including a disc to the back that was the final end of her sports career.

So, I do wonder if the plates do speak to some chronic disability management or the magical intervention into some sort of serious injury that we might learn more about now that Thaisha is traveling alone.
