A textile fragment was found in Peru. It belongs to the Chimu or Chancay culture (pre-Columbian era X - XV centuries)
Source with more information:
Textile fragment; cotton plain weave ground with paired warps; camelid supplementary weft patterning; feline figure; cream and black.
More cats incorporated into fabric, this time in a ~15th century woven garment.

Hexagon Quilt
This is the second time I've seen a video of this technique and this explanation is so clear! It does use more fabric than English paper piecing (EPP) but you end up with a double sided hexagon so don't have to source fabric for the backing.
I'm doing EPP at the moment but I have a hole punch to make the papers and just use leaflets and junk mail, so it doesn't feel wasteful. I don't think it's difficult either- in the video she mentions it's not for beginners, but I don't have that much experience with hand sewing or EPP and I've been finding it pretty easy so YMMV
I saw this video yesterday and was seized with the need to try it out immediately. Lookit my cute lil' hexagon baby!!
Here is what the backside looks like. OP notes this takes more fabric than paper piecing, but that excess fabric makes it already triple-layered. Besides not needing backing fabric, I don't think you'd need batting for this quilt at all. It's already thick and soft just from folding all that fabric into a hexagon.
Hexagon quilt tutorial video by tiktok user camelscrafts. Method:
Each hexagon begins as a 6" circle. camelscrafts does this by creating a paper template using a compass. According to the video, a 6" circle will create a hexagon that is 2.5 inches tall.
These hexagons are hand-sewn. Thread the needle.
With the fabric right side facing, find the center of the circle by folding it in half right sides together, then folding it in half again (wrong sides are facing). The top of the triangle shape is the center of the fabric circle.
Make a small stitch into the center of the fabric. The wrong side is still facing.
Unfold the circle. There will be a small stitch in the center.
Now the hexagon is created by folding the circle into itself: Take the needle to one of the edges of the fabric (it doesn't matter which one). Pull the needle through and pull the thread tight. This will fold down the fabric and create an edge of the hexagon. Crease the fold with your finger.
This fold has two corners, one at the top and one at the bottom. Put the needle into one of the corners and pull the thread taut. This will create another fold.
Continue this going around the circle until all of it is folded down, creating the hexagon. camelscrafts notes that the last corner pulled in may be a little bit "wonky" (no precise point in the corner) if the corners were not done precisely. However, that corner is pulled into the back, so is not visible from the front.
The hexagon is now formed. Sew around the folds in the middle of the circle to hold the folds in place. Tie off and cut the thread.
Attach hexagons to each other along the sides. With right sides together, whip stitch the sides together.

Thatâs Althea Cromeâs work. Youâve seen her work before if youâve ever seen the movie Coraline because she did the teeny tiny star sweater and gloves for the stop motion puppets to wear.
She does, however, work even smaller.
Holy crap that is so tiny!!!
I'm Freeing my cross stitch patterns!
I still get emails asking for patterns since I broke up with etsy a few years ago, and while I don't really want to get back into making patterns, I still like the ones I've made. So, I've put them all (16 of them) up on my ko-fi, for free.
This set of patterns includes some ~rare~ ones!
This wasn't on etsy for long - but it's one of my very favs.
and not just the return of the Avatar map (designed in 2012), but finally the updated version.
If it is fanart - Absolutely free (in the hopes they get to stay up). If not, it's free/pay what you want.
Happy stitching!
nobody warns you the dangers of cross stitching (stabbing yourself)
I thought I might share one of my new tattoos. A couple years ago, a dear friend and I coined the term âfish bag momentâ
A fish bag moment might be sitting all alone in an empty new apartment after coming out and upending your life, or starting a new job in a brand new line of work because itâs closer to your dreams
Itâs what happens when you take a leap of faith or make a hard decision for yourself, when the future is so hard to visualize and everything feels scary. Youâre just a fish in a bag and you canât see where youâre going
But youâre on your way to a bigger aquarium
In honor of a relatively unexpected and sudden transition in my life, I tried my hand at sculpting my beloved fish bag. Letâs hope the kiln is kind â¤ď¸

My all-handspun tapestry is underway
Iâm doing old school flash sheets, a group of very large ones, with all handspun yarn :) got started last night and didnât get too far into the weaving but already feeling SO smug about how the handspun is looking exactly how I wanted it to
i had a vision last night that absolutely ruined me. a bra, but itâs overalls. denim with the straps you have to tie and everything. but itâs a bra!
overbralls
Iâm horrified that sheâs actually considering it
I mean, of course I would be considering it, having dumb sewing ideas is basically 90% of my personality.
âŚoh wait no I went one further than considering it I did do itâŚ
I ended up not going with the front fly closure, in part because the shortest opened ended metal zipper I could get was 40cm long and also TWELVE DOLLARS(!) but also because I got annoyed with trying to work out the equivalent of a waistband for the bust curve - this one has a button closure at the centre back but I think next time I would go to the effort of sewing a proper bra hook-and-eye closure because it is a bit hard to wrangle on and off.
(If you want one of your own, the pattern for mine was once McCalls M7937 before I re-did it to my personal preferences and to be a bikini top rather than an outerwear top, but view B is pretty much this except slightly longer and with straps that are, you know, not overalls.)
Jra for your joobies
The first rule of sewing is you can fix anything if you have patience, creativity, and a little bit of extra fabric! The second rule of sewing is AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I fear I am biting off more than I can chew but if Ryland Grace can save earth I can figure out how to make a quilt
I found some references on Insta that you might find useful for making it!

What the heck! As of this reblog, this comic has 21 notes. Apparently a little reblog chain happened, but I donât really remember noticing. Much higher numbers than my usual 0 or 1. My first taste of success, and I totally missed it!
honestly, if I had a comic take off I wouldnât mind this one. I still like the joke.
Found out I was short fabric on another project and decided I wasnât going into town to pick it up, so I pulled a jelly roll out to keep myself busy until I went back to town.
Figured I do a quick quilt top, you know, just throw something together.
And then I made two blocks of the forty eight needed for this Harvest quilt and boy howdy.
Not a quick quilt two day top, this one LOL
The blocks look fantastic ofc.
And the quilt! She be gorgeous!
Love that fuck-off bright yellow I picked for the cornerstones, theyâre perfect for this.
Thinking about quilting it in a blue thread, but weâll see when I audition colours lol
So we have this bin of partially used bobbins for the long arm. And we only have so many bobbins of course.
I decided that since the quilt top was so colourful, Iâd put plain flat black cotton the back and use up some of these bobbins, making the quilting on the back really stand out.
Holy shit did it work or what! I love it, of course LOL
I used a medium purple on the top so it would fade into the patchwork and not show up too much on the background. The quilting pattern is called Pink Lemonade and it is one of my favourite quilting patterns.
I didnât have any left over border fabric, so I found a nice blue that matched with that print and made it my binding. I debated using purple, but couldnât convince myself to do it.
The blue looks good though, from the front and the back.
