Lore connections between Wars games
The Wars series is a sister series to the Fire Emblem series that spans many of Nintendo's consoles. The Advance Wars games, the installments released on the Game Boy Advance and the Nintendo DS, are perhaps the most well-known and also appear to have the most connective tissue (I am not too familiar with the installments released on the original Game Boy and Game Boy Color that only released in Japan).
Three of the Advance Wars (Advance Wars, Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising and Advance Wars: Dual Strike) games share a light but overarching narrative that becomes more the focus as each game in the series progresses, with Advance Wars: Days of Ruin being unconnected. They are set on various continents in Wars World and feature four nations: Orange Star, Blue Moon, Gold Comet and Green Earth. They are manipulated and opposed by the faction known as Black Hole that seeks to take over the world. Their armies all have various COs that act as the main protagonists and antagonists of the series. These various titles also have more connections to each other and older games, like Famicom Wars and Super Famicom Wars that I'd like to explore.
Family Relationships
In the Advance Wars trilogy, Nell acts as the commander-in-chief of Orange Star and has a CO ability that increase the luck damage of her troops, called Lucky Star. Her younger sister Rachel appears one of the main characters in Dual Strike as well and has a similar ability that increases the luck ability of her troops, called Lucky Lass. In Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, the remake of the first two Advance Wars games, shopkeeper Hachi mentions their mother:
"Step inside-there’s lots to buy! Nell’s units are so lucky all the time. It’s probably because she was born with her very own good-luck charm. Don’t believe me? Take a look for yourself-it’s that cute little beauty mark on her face! Must run in the family, ‘cause I happen to remember her mom having an identical one… Not sure about her sister though."
This may be a call-back to Super Famicom Wars, which does not feature a story. It does feature the same nations as those in the Advance Wars trilogy (aside from Black Hole) fighting on small islands, with their own set of COs. One of them is Caroline, who works freelance, has a beauty mark like Nell and is considered a "lucky girl". Her specialty is dealing more damage than normal, mirroring Nell and Rachel's CO abilities as well. It is thus possible she is their mother.
Another potential, but more tenuous, connection has to do with Sasha and Colin. These are siblings from Blue Moon who are mentioned to have rich parents and Colin's CO ability allows him to gain more money per turn than usual. This is similar to the ability of the freelance CO Billy Gates, who is mentioned to be the son of a billionaire. If Super Famicom Wars is indeed set in the past of the Advance Wars trilogy, as indicated by Re-Boot Camp, Billy and his father may be part of the same family.
Mentors and students
There are more connections between the Advance Wars trilogy and previous Wars games than just potential familial ones. The CO Sensei from Black Hole Rising is part of Gold Comet and mentioned to have taught Kanbei, another CO and the emperor of Gold Comet. In the Japanese version of Black Hole Rising, Kanbei mentions Sensei by his real name: Yamamoto.
Sensei thus shares his name with the third freelance CO from Super Famicom Wars, Mr. Yamamoto. He also shares his CO abilities with Kanbei, which entails that their units receive stat boosts, indicating Sensei may have passed these on to Kanbei in his younger days.
Of note is that Sensei also taught Hachi, who used to be commander-in-chief of Orange Star before Nell, alongside Kanbei. Hachi mentions this in Re-Boot Camp:
"Well now, look what the cat dragged in! Are you familiar with Sensei? He’s my friend and an absolute legend. He sure taught me a thing or two… Ah, now I’m getting all misty! Anyway, Kanbei and I owe most of our success to that man."
In Super Famicom Wars, the CO of Orange Star is instead a character named Yuan Delta. The framing of the original Famicom Wars is that Yuan Delta made the game as a training program for the player as pointed out by AskAdvanceWars on AO3. He used to be the commander-in-chief of Orange Star but is now looking for a successor. So in a possible timeline, Super Famicom Wars may be first and set during Yuan Delta's glory days. He then makes Famicom Wars to train his successor, who may be Hachi. Decades later, the Advance Wars trilogy then takes place, where Hachi has retired and Nell is now the commander-in-chief of Orange Star.
The Alien invasion
Sturm, the leader of Black Hole in Advance Wars and Black Hole Rising, is an enigmatic person who wears a robotic, orange suit with a gasmask-like device over his head. He claims to be warfare incarnate and other than that and in the original Black Hole Rising, he is described in his profile as a mysterious invader from another world.
When looking at Black Hole infantry, they similarly wear suits to Sturm, but the details of their faces are obscured. We can get a better look in Dual Strike, where we see they are alien-looking beings that wear a similar contraption around their mouth to Sturm. This may imply Sturm looks similar to his infantry under his mask and that the other world he is from is another planet, not another dimension. This all would mean the central conflict in the first two Advance Wars games is about aliens and their human allies trying to take over Wars World.
Locations in Omega Land
Omega Land is the continent that is the setting of Dual Strike and has quite a few names locations. Below I made a compilation of which locations are named.

I want to write things but I sometimes don't like the fandoms. I wonder if I should post them anyways...
factoid that people might not be aware of:
the heroes’ relics are quite possibly a reference to the irl practise of turning the body parts (bones, hair, organs, blood, etc) of saints into holy items called relics.
It also doubles as a corruption of how major weapons in the series like the Falchion were made out of dragon body parts. The obvious difference being that Naga deliberately took her own fang to make a sword for humanity to survive, while the Nabateans were mercilessly slaughtered without knowing why.
Kind of a more brutal extension of how the legendary weapons in FE6 aren't just "cool holy weapons to beat the bad guys" but their creation and use was uhhh... a lot more destructive.
I like that FE does that, doing spins on classic or previously established tropes~
Another day, another weirdo trying to compare Jeritza to Zelgius. I'm gonna lose it, man. They're really trying to do my Big Beautiful Wife so dirty. Like Zelgius' whole thing is reducing casualties, even as the Black Knight. He doesn't kill without purpose, and disagrees when people try to just feed their men into a meat grinder. The man spares lives whenever he can. You'd never catch him prowling the streets like a "we have Jack the Ripper at home" sort of deal and Jeritza doesn't have the sauce to make just stepping out of a house intimidating. Zelgius has like. Nuance and commentary about war, trauma, and race attached to him. Jeritza is just "serial killer with a sad backstory that belongs more to his sister than him," and then the game doesn't really do anything interesting with that. I can't stand Three Houses Fans™. They need to play another game before they start trying to glom onto characters that have way more seasoning. Comparing Zelgius and Jeritza is like comparing an expensive steakhouse prime rib to boiled chicken.
It's extremely apparent that they tried to make Jeritza a Zelgius ripoff, but what it boils down to is that Jeritza doesn't have anything that made Zelgius such a great character.
Jeritza's civilian identity is less than nothing, a footnote to be mentioned by Mercedes and little else. Zelgius is a literal general for Begnion, a faction that is significant in PoR's story, and EVEN MORE so in RD's. Zelgius himself is front and center during Part 3, and retroactively very important in Part 1.
Zelgius has presence and importance on the world stage also because as the Black Knight he's involved with Daein.
The Death Knight? The story of 3H sometimes outright forgets about him until necessary to have a significant general to face. Characters have to be like "remember the Death Knight?" right before facing him. The Tellius cast never has to do that because Zelgius actually has natural presence.
And in gameplay? It's no contest. I've beaten the Death Knight many times without cheesing him with Lysithea. The fact that a tiny student is even the best way to deal with him shows that he's not a threat. This includes the chapters where he randomly pops up as well. He's even referred to as a nuisance more than as an actual serious danger!
But the Black Knight? You literally can't do anything to him. His stats are too high. PoR even has accomodations for the possibility of Ike not being able to beat him late into the game, that's how significant of a challenge he is-that the story changes depending on if Ike can still stand a chance. That tells a story itself, that even through many successes, Ike is not infallible! He can still be outclassed! That serves as an extra reason why he trains so hard and gets so buff in RD, so that he can be unbeatable himself!
And this is all before we get into character stuff, because Jeritza is another example of DID being villainized and used for shock and danger, while the Black Knight is literally just a guy who found solace in someone who didn't judge him for being mixed race and is just fucked up enough to kill his former teacher. Like, he's not a good person per se, but he has a core with trauma and some degree of honor like you say.
It's night and day to compare the two, especially considering how cheap it was to make another attempt at Zelgius in the first place when the writers clearly didn't know why he worked.
When the Death Knight shows up, the entire level doesn't change OSTs and changes the objective from "defeat all enemies" to "survive" and didn't gave us all a tactical jumpscare (despite announcing it moments prior).
The gamedevs tried to recreate the FE equivalent of Darth Vader and failed, Jeritza could have been a better character if he was relevant to the plot rather than only being relevant to Mercedes' background story or being a source of exp points for Lysithea.
Why am I obsessed with character who doesn’t appear more than three times AGAIN
literally me........fr............

I don't like corpos but I like that specific cyber ninja. There's not enough content of him....
I understand it’s difficult to be a parent but it’s time we start telling parents bluntly it’s not the internet responsibility to keep your child safe it’s your responsibility to keep your child safe on the internet
This, and if you want your child to never be able to access a certain website or adult content then allow me to introduce you to PARENTAL CONTROL which are easy to use and already exist in every device!
As a matter of fact, the existence of Parental Controls is proof that this censorship that is happening was unnecessary and not for the kids. If they cared about the kids they'd educate parents and kids, not this.
Way too funny not to share

I still think the most devastating enshittification I've ever seen has been picrew. One of the few dress-up game websites left that's not flash-based and it's become DRENCHED in ads. You can't open the home screen without being blasted by at least three or four ads. You can't open two picrews in a row without watching a video ad first. When you have a picrew open the ads cover up the different options and sometimes even stack on each other so you have to hit like 2 or 3 different x buttons to get it to go away, only for more to appear seconds later. Evil world
It got worse - they added a subscription service
WHAT
For once I can be the one to promote alternate sites, my time to shine has finally come
Now I will say I do use an adblocker so I can't say how many ads all these places have, but- Here's some other places you can go to dress up little characters on your screen!
meiker.io - A free dress-up/character creator tool/platform filled with a TON of neat little games. There ARE ads on this site unfortunately but imo they aren't overwhelming (and from what I understand them running ads helps keep the site free, so). I've been using this site off and on for years already bc most games are fullbody instead of headshots, which I find more helpful w oc creation, and I can say in my experience it all runs extremely smoothly :) of everything here this site is the most similar to picrew
DollDivine - One of the classic dress-up game websites. Not only is it still up but it is actively being updated with new games, and the owner has been working to try and transfer the old flash games into a program called Ruffle so that they can still be played. Most of the games that I played when I was younger are already back up and working again thanks to this. DollDivine is also the host site for the games featured on Rinmaru Games back in the day so if you were like me and lived and breathed that site for most of your pre-teen years, you will be delighted to know that many of those games were saved here! :D
Azalea's Dolls - Another classic one that is still running and still being added to! If you like Disney/fairytale-esque dress-up games you will love this website, they have some BEAUTIFUL games. They have also been transferring many of their old games into Ruffle, so a good chunk of those will be working again too.
PastelKatto Games - A site owned/managed by one of my personal favourite developers back in the day. While the creator has moved on from publishing their own games they still update the site with other games every so often, and the catalog of games they created over the course of the last decade or so is absolutely worth your time. The range of options they would give to players for characters included a wide range of skin tones, vitiligo, missing limbs + prosthetics, scars/burn marks, and more. Plus their art is also just really, really pretty.
VeggieStudio - If you like anime-esque games then this is the site for you. Their catalog may be quite small, but all the games on this site are beautifully drawn. You may recognize their style if you played any Rinmaru games, as they did the art for a few of those back in the day.
Most of these sites mainly feature games that center around female/feminine characters, but there ARE games where you can make guys/masculine characters as well. But just a heads up in advance. None of them are hardwired for pfp creation either, so if you're looking for that you might not find a lot here. But otherwise, def check these sites out! The flash purge hit dress-up game communities HARD but people have been working to keep things running in some form or another ever since the news dropped. It's been rough, but all has not been lost and a lot of the old games I used to play are now playable again! :D
also this is insane but like. GaiaOnline is still up and the economy is recovered enough that it's actually very achievable to just get stuff by playing pinball and taking your daily rewards.
Unlock Origin once again has been protecting me from atrocities I had no notion were playing out. Like a child of a monarch tucked away from the starving city below them…
I love my ad blocks
oh. huh. time flies.
happy birthday to my blog 🎉
