Wedding Vows
Elise’s POV:
“...and protect our mutual assets to the best of my abilities and interests.” Elise finished, finally looking over to her would-be husband.
She had tried her best to avoid looking at him the entire ceremony. Despite her clear statement that she would be wearing a light blue, the lightest shade she can get, wedding dress to the ceremony, her husband-to-be showed up in a dark shade of red. He looked like an idiot standing next to her. And apparently, his eyes were as red as his suit. Her sharp smile wavered with rage. She whispered, speaking through her teeth, “Are you fucking kidding me? Are you fucking high right now?”
“Whuh?” Sebastian Roveno’s eyes were red-rimmed as they jumped to meet her own. One of his hands fiddled in his pocket as he blinked at her and swayed slightly. “Whoa, what are you doing at my wedding?”
“I’m. Marrying. You.” Elise whispered sharply, her smile still wide and fake. Sebastian, in the amount of time it took for Elise to speak, had begun to stare off into space. Elise growled under her breath and stepped on his toes. “You idiot. How high are you?”
“Oh ow, huh?” He looked at her again. She hadn’t been trying to really harm him, not at her own wedding, but the fact that he couldn’t pay attention to the vows for two goddamn seconds? She hated this man with every fiber of her being.
“And do you, uh, boss…” Giovanni Alfonso Macaroni gestured to the bride.
“Elise Torres.” Elise said pointedly. First her would-be husband was high, now her own henchman/officiant was forgetting her first name. Just great. She was having such a lovely fucking time at this sham of a wedding.
“Elise Torres right, boss. Do you take this man, Bastion Roveno, to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
Elise grimaced, looking at Sebastian through the corner of her eye. This awful, strung out idiot of a man was going to be her husband. The man who would be with her for the rest of his life. The things she did for money. She forced her grimace back into a smile and gritted out, “I. Do.”
“Alrighty, and do you, boss Bastion, take this woman, Elise Torres, to be your lawfully wedded wife?” Giovanni looks to the groom.
Sebastian was staring at nothing again. Elise clenched her jaw and stepped on his foot again. Sebastian jolted, “Wha? Uh… ditto.”
“You’re supposed to say I do.” Elise whispered to him.
“Eh, good enough.” Giovanni shrugged. “I now pronounce you boss husband and boss wife. You may now kiss the boss.”
Sebastian stared at Elise, his stupid green eyes looking right through her as if she weren’t even present at this wedding. Elise squeezed her flower bouquet angrily. She hated this man, this husband, in front of her. This had never, ever been what she wanted from a wedding.
Very quickly they both surged forward and pressed their lips together, nothing more than a quick flash of teeth and skin as their foreheads hit each other. His breath smelled so heavily of weed, she should have expected his mouth to as well. They immediately straightened up and separated. That might have very well been the worst kiss of Elise’s life. The clapping and cheering of the audience was a dull roar in Elise’s mind.
“Throw the bouquet!” Someone in the church yelled. It wasn’t even time for that, but Elise didn't care. She threw the bouquet as hard as she could at her husband, who ducked semi-accidentally, in a move that involved tripping over his own two feet. The bouquet hit the best man in the face as he recoiled.
Ugh. She couldn’t even bring herself to care.
Elise started to make her way down the steps, but her dress caught on something. She turned back and found Sebastian, standing on her custom made dress. She grabbed her dress and pulled it, hoping to knock over the man in the process, but he stepped off just in time for her to yank it and fall down on the ground.
“Have a nice trip.” Sebastian muttered as he walked past her.
