Mami took her time in pondering what Killua had said. While it was unspoken that magical girls kept their world secret, it had seemed to only be to preserve the reputation of herself. She was always mysterious anyways, so in the end, students figured that she was just distant and mature because of her tragedy.
“I’m not afraid of that. Besides, nobody would rightfully take our word. We’re still young. I think adults would think I was finally cracking under the pressure of my past.” She chuckled, though it held no humor or light. It was sad.
“It’s best we work in the shadows, Killua-san. I don’t seek glory or fame for my deeds. I’m just doing what’s right for the city.” That, and she had no choice. She’d rather keep the cool mentor facade than admit to the boy that she was terrified.
