Jupiter gets some appreciation for all he does for the Solar System.
A little story time for this comic: so this was originally going to be Jupiter prompting Saturn to read about his (Saturn's) chapter in The Story of the Heavens (by Sir Robert S. Ball; beautiful prose - read it!) to help him feel better about himself, but I kinda already did that with Saturn and Uranus. So then I decided to make it about Jupiter, since I haven't really done a comic about him before and he deserves some recognition for all the good he does for everyone else.
Then I learned that it was @dreamie-artsss's birthday this week, so I figured it was in the stars for me to do a Jupiter-based comic, haha. So this is dedicated to you, Dreamie! Happy birthday! :D

Here's the fourth installment of the zodiac series! We have Luna representing the crab of the fourth zodiac sign (and the only sign ruled by a moon), Cancer!
The challenge with this one was to make it not look creepy. Not sure if I succeeded.
I also chose to use a blue crab's claws instead of, say, a dungeness crab's because I figured the bright red would make it look even more unnerving.
Also, @blood-moon8896, I did NOT forget your birthday! While it's probably not June 30 in your time zone anymore, it still technically is in the time zone I'm in right now, so I'm going to count it! Either way, happy (possibly slightly belated) birthday!
I would give you a hint/preview, but I'm not sure what it's going to be yet, haha.
I have about five different very loose ideas for comics any given week and I excel at waiting until the last possible minute to pick one and flesh it out into an actual working concept.
I guess I could give the hint "Saturn" because it's probably going to involve him, but I haven't zeroed in on the specific idea yet and no guarantees if I'm actually going to end up picking a Saturn-focused one. XD
Awww, really? That's so sweet to hear; thank you for telling me, Anon!
I'm on Twitter on an account not tied to this one and just use it for sports-related news/stuff, so that's pretty much all the algorithm ever shows me anymore, haha. I never see any SolarBalls-related things on my feed. But it's really nice to know that some people over there like the things I make! π
So I was rereading your chrysallis comic and in coincidentally it's the same time i'm hearing they're doing a short arc for them at long last
Thanks for the ask and thank you for re-reading my comic! :D
I'm excited that a Chrysalis arc has been confirmed and am super curious as to the direction they're going to take it (and the tone they're going to use). Are they going to go for a more science-based explanation or a more fictional explanation (or a mix of the two?). Will it be more Chrysalis-focused or more Saturn-focused? Will it be told from the perspective of another moon (probably Titan)?
Also, I'm wondering what "short" means for an arc length. Two episodes? Three? I think most non-major arcs have had similar lengths. I'll be interested in seeing how they can fit in the story itself, Saturn's reaction (and/or other moons' reactions), and any sort of resolution in that length. But maybe it'll be a bit longer than that, who knows.

This is probably an odd question but do you think it's possible to make an edit of 'The Sun vs The Rogue Planets' with the song 'I need a hero' from Shrek 2?
Someone made an edit of Mario Odyssey with it and another person made one with Avengers: Endgame (though they had to cut out some parts of the battle to fit the song's length and repeat a part of the song to fit with the battle)
Do you think it's possible to do the same with today's newest Solarballs episode?
Thanks for the ask and sorry for taking so long to reply!
Yes, I bet it would be possible! I haven't seen either of the edits you mentioned, but in my head I'm seeing the edit switch between scenes of the Sun confronting/battling the rogues and scenes of the planets (at first) being unaware of the Sun and just heading out into space in their various directions, kind of like how the sequence in Shrek 2 cuts between scenes of Shrek battling and scenes of Princess Fiona and Prince Charming dancing.
It'd be interesting to see where the edit would end. I kind of like the idea of it ending with Mercury crying out "Suuuuuun!" and rushing toward the star at the same point where Shrek yells "STOP!" in the original sequence. That cuts out the dwarfs' reaction and isn't quite at the end of the "battle" really (though there's not really any fighting after that if my memory serves me right), but it'd be a cool little end to the sequence.
I'd give this edit a try myself, but 1) I've never done any sort of video editing like that before, and 2) I just have my dinky little laptop with me while I'm away from home and I don't know if it could handle the work, haha.
I was thinking about the show recently, and I had an epiphany(?). So, as we know, the only reason the Moons were able to find Jupiter when he was past the Kuiper Belt was because of Neptune, right? Well, X is also pretty big, so... Did Neptune know *something* was there? Just never able to find it?
Thanks for the ask! (And sorry it took me so long to respond!)
I think it might depend on a few things:
1. Neptune and the TNOs
I feel like Neptune is very "in tune" with the Kuiper Belt and beyond in terms of the objects that exist there. I suspect he can feel the gravitational influence of everything to some degree, though of course smaller objects would be less detectable gravity-wise. So I bet he could feel X out there somewhere.
However, given the number of trans-Neptunian objects - I think there are more than 5,000 of them currently identified - he may have a hard time differentiating one from another. He might feel something, but is unable to identify which "something" it is.
It is Neptune, though, and if anyone's going to spend their time tracking, recording, and cataloguing gravitational influences to help identify individual objects, it'd be him. Also, like you said, X is big - much bigger than any other TNO. Combine that with...
2. Planet X's Location
Ganymede mentions that he and Europa had been traveling for "three times the distance from the Sun and Neptune" before they even reached X in the "Search for Planet X" set of episodes. If he's using the edge of the Kuiper Belt as the "start" for this distance, then that's about 90 AU out. It's not indicated where they are, exactly, when they find X, but to make things simple and not have to worry about Kuiper Belt size fluctuations, let's say Neptune and X are, on average, 90 AU apart.
Now size: Neptune is about 17.5 Earths in terms of mass. It looks like the higher end estimated mass for the hypothetical missing planet X (from the little bit of Googling I've done, haha) is about 15 Earths.
Using these values and the gravitational force equation, we get a gravitational force of 3,447 teranewtons between X and Neptune. To put some perspective on this, the gravitational force between the Sun and Neptune is about 1,714 teranewtons. So the gravitational force between X and Neptune would be about double that of the force between Neptune and the Sun. So yeah, I would think Neptune could feel him, no problem!
Also...
3. Planet X's Movement
I suspect that X didn't stay in one place out there. He probably moved closer to the Solar System at certain strategic times, including (perhaps) when he realized he could get ahold of Ganymede and Europa. This is indicated, in my opinion, by how confident Makemake is in saying he and the other dwarfs have felt him (the "gravitational anomaly" he mentioned). Maybe he'd moved closer once he noticed the unrest in the Solar System to see if he could find an opportunity to return.
Anyway. Putting all this together: yes, I think there's evidence that Neptune felt X out there somewhere but couldn't quite pinpoint him, maybe because X was moving around on his own volition (making it difficult for Neptune to use math to locate him) or maybe because Neptune is overwhelmed with other TNO forces that make it just hard for him to pinpoint any sources of gravity in general.
I have several asks in my inbox that I havenβt gotten to yet. Iβm not ignoring yβall, I promise! The last few days have been prepping for travel + travel to go visit family and I havenβt had the chance to just sit down and answer them yet. Hopefully this afternoon! π
In the fourth (and final?) installment in the "Small Moon Club" series, Phobos and Deimos finally figure out a way to organize the non-spherical moons and make sure everyone gets heard.
This isn't really a series series since I tried to make each comic stand on its own and thus reading the previous comics isn't necessary to understand each one, but there are four that kind of go together with this theme. So in case anyone's curious what the first three "parts" are:
Chapter 11 of "In the Interim" is up! Writing this stupid chapter was like pulling teeth, man. Probably because I'm much more excited about the next chapter, haha.

I'd like to make a review/response post for this most recent arc that just concluded, but I think I want to re-watch the whole thing first.
(Mild spoilers below)
In the meantime, though, I only have one thing to say: while I of course wanted more for a conclusion to Uranus' and X's relationship if this is truly the last time they'll see each other (kinda sounded like it was?), at least they got to say goodbye to each other. Just the two of them alone. They deserved to have that at the very least.
Neptune runs into Ceres out in the Kuiper Belt and realizes that the two of them have a lot in common when it comes to being isolated.
The idea of a Neptune and Ceres comic comes from @fuyumi-himura-best!
After my post about the other painted asteroids that Neptune made, I thought it'd be a cool idea to incorporate those into this comic as a way for Neptune to offer Ceres some companionship (sorta).
There were a lot of different directions one could take an interaction between these two; I hope my interpretation is okay! π
idea: neptune entertains his moons using his shapeshifting abilities
Thank you for the ask and idea!
Ooh, I like it! I think I've had Neptune shapeshift once before (and it was pretty tame; he just sort of became a blob, haha), so having him utilize that ability to entertain his moons would be a fun thing to build a comic around.
I'll add it to my list and be sure to credit you whenever it gets done!
I probably won't do anything that's a super specific request as I like to be able to put my own personal spin on a given scenario/interaction and I like to have the actual "story" of the comic come from me (if that make sense, haha).
However, if someone has a general character interaction or scenario that they'd like to propose and it's something I feel meshes with the style and tone of my comics (not too dark, kinda fun/cute/wholesome, possibly silly), then I'd be happy to take the request!
[As examples, two requests I've gotten are 1) Phobos and Deimos starting a club for the smaller moons...this actually turned into several comics, haha; and 2) a comic about Earth and Uranus interacting (I haven't gotten to this one yet, but I will, I promise!)]
If you do request something and I go "yeah I'll do it" but then you don't see it happen for like three months, that just means I haven't found an interpretation that "clicks" yet. It'll be on my list, though, so don't worry!
Also: I will credit anyone whose request gets used! Anon requests will get credit too, but just as "Anon," haha.

Jupiter realizes he hasn't been spending much time with his non-spherical moons, so he tries to remedy that in a very Jupiter way: by doing some science with them!
I had a more serious comic in mind for this week, but it seems like everyone's been feeling rather down lately, so I decided to do a more lighthearted one instead.
I'm curious what your posting schedule for comics looks like?
Hello, Anon! Thanks for the ask.
I usually post my regular comics (the ones that are typically 25-30 pages, which are the ones I tag "my comics") early on Friday mornings - like 4 AM to 6 AM Mountain time.
Nothing else I post has any particular schedule, haha. βΊοΈ
