The form of this artwork is photography. The message is unclear, but the hash tags leave some clues. #Womeninphotography- are these photographs of a woman? Or the photographer herself. She looks angry. There is a lot of emotion in the faces of the person being photographed. The colors are rosy in tone. The process appears to be complicated. There is a strange texture on top of the faces. It almost looks like the person in the pictures has a piece of plastic over them, and then after the photos were taken, the plastic was put over top the collage and re-photographed. For my time project, I will be photographing myself every night, at approximately the same time. This reminds me, conceptually, of my work, although I will be working with more material.

This artist Peter Bezuijen works with repetition and that can be seen here in his gouache on paper painting. He paints many little tiles with various patterns and colors. Primarily colors are shades of blue, giving it a calming feeling. I see a heart in the left upper corner of the rectangle. It could also be an abstract landscape. I think Peter used a small paint brush and painted the top left square. He then proceeded to the next and worked his way down the page. Finally, he likely painted the board last. I chose this painting and this artist because of the use of repetition and the beauty and significance that it holds.
Ali Mobasser

This artwork is called A Life Told with ID Photos. Using the pre existing material of the ID, the artwork takes us through the life of Afsaneh Mobasserstarting at age 7 and ending at 55. This content concerns life and aging, very strong topics. Also, the fact that it is made with ID photos which makes it feel official. The little girl starts off looking young, adorable and innocent. By the last picture, there is so much emotion in the woman’s eyes and face. This is a person who has lived an entire life. Something I noticed while looping through the photos is watching the smile disappear. Of course, this directly relates to the theme of my project. Beauty doesn’t last, but what is left there instead?
TIME Project
Project idea 1: Budding of a tree
Form:
Take a picture of a branch every other day for the semester and watch it start to bud and grow leaves.
Process:
Use tape to mark where my tripod needs to go. Collect pictures and build into a stop motion.
Content:
It will symbolize the passage of time of the seasons and growth.
Project idea 2: “Retail has aged you.”
Form:
Using photography, take a picture of my eyes everyday at 5-8 pm until the end of the semester.
Watch the emotion in the eyes as they move through the life of a retail worker and student.
Process:
Combine each photograph into a stop motion video.
Content:
This project represents the struggle of a busy schedule and how it may affect one’s beauty. The impermanence of beauty. The sacrifices that life requires.
Project idea 3: Sculpture in the elements
Form:
The material will be sculpting clay, paint, the elements, a camera, seeds, water and fertilizer. A sculpture of a woman’s head with a hole in the top full of seeds.
Process:
Start my making the face of a woman. Leave a hole on top of her head and fill with seeds. Put it outside in a fixed place. Take pictures everyday. Combine pictures. Watch as the elements affect the sculpture and the seeds grow.
Content:
The concept I want to convey is the impermanence of beauty.
What I will likely go with is both project ideas 2 and 3. I hope to merge them together by placing the pictures of the eyes over the eyes of the woman to show the effect that time has one a person and thing. Time destroys and it also creates. If one project doesn’t seem to be as impactful as the other, then I can make the decision of what to go with and what to leave out.
