Leaving the Corps was incomprehensible to Samuel. He knew that it had not exactly been a voluntary decision on Nicoâs side, but had he been in his shoes, Sam wouldnât have known what to make of his life. It has been all heâs worked towards his entire life and pursuing anything else would have felt shallow to him, even as most people had urged him to do so prior to his commission. Part of that preparation had been spent on a campus just like this, and it gave him an eerie ring of Deja Vu walking âround people who were the same age now as he was then, yet a good ten years younger than Sam. He had thought that the alienation he felt with these people would cease with his graduation from Indiana State, but there he was.
Sauntering through crowds of an afternoon class just dismissed, his eyes scanned for a familiar face among them, the somebody to have him feel less out of place. A silent but relieved sigh escaped and the man moved towards his target, too quick to exit his current situation to reexamine how peculiar it was that heâd feel more comfortable in a warzone than in one of about the most sheltered places in the States. Stranger things must happen each day and it was not like he would have come here if not for Nico. A friendly visit. âEnjoying campus life with the kids, French?â
