They're narrative foils. Maul survives a killing blow because the thought of Kenobi kept him alive, and what is obsession but a mirror of devotion? Obi-Wan is the master of defense and Maul is the master of offense. Obi-Wan's first and last kill of his life is Maul. The trajectory of their lives is extraordinary similar until the Same Duel sends them shooting off into opposite directions and defines them both for decades. A duel that teaches Obi-Wan the feeling of revenge that will haunt Maul the rest of his life. Obi-Wan was the apprentice who was never wanted. Maul was wanted too much. Obi-Wan overcame his trauma, but Maul never could. Both rebellious by nature, forced into the mold of the Perfect Example of their respective orders, and yet they have the same failing - Maul, desperate for companionship from ANYBODY, and Obi-Wan who struggles with his attachment to the people he loves. Both forced into exile by the same man who destroyed their lives and orders. They've hurt each other in unimaginable ways and yet understand each other like no one else can.

This is a ref sheet I did from Darth Maul. I looked up his canon tattoos of the chest and the face/ head and tried to be as close as possible. His legs are absolutley made up and not Canon but feel free to use it as a ref for your art too if you struggle with these :D

Maul would be with you, for you. Regardless of sexuality, gender, or species.

He isn’t one for labels either.

He would do research. He loves to learn, especially about things to do with his lover. He studies everything. From the way you speak to how you carry yourself.

Maul wouldn’t hesitate to correct someone if they used the wrong pronouns when speaking with you or about you. Informing them not to make that same mistake twice.

He has all the supplies you could ever need. Your injections, binders, packers/padding, you name it. Whatever his love needs, he’s got multiple of everything.

If you’re at the beginning of transitioning and decide on cutting your hair, or having a very specific hairstyle, he’ll learn how to cut and style it himself. Wanting to shorten your work load in the daytime when getting ready.

Same thing with your style. He’ll learn what fabrics you prefer, the baggyness of your tunics and pants, any type of accessories you lean towards and surprise you with them.

Maul would have his own private doctors and nurses, so you wouldn’t have to worry about finding one that could be problematic.

If and when you decide on surgery, he’d make sure you have the best care, especially with privacy. Knowing this is a vulnerable moment in your life, he’d limit outside interaction until YOU’RE ready for it.

To the world, he’s a cruel and heartless man, but behind closed doors and with you, he’s a lover. Speaking soft affirmations and reassurance daily, especially on days you need a little extra tlc.
