Fucker's burning the candle at every end possible and then some trying to keep things running. Inventing some kind of safe haven. Trying to avoid perpetuating his family's mistakes—his brother's mistakes—by going the opposite direction. The top floor of his mayoral building is reserved for folks with nowhere to go or who need to crash, not a fancy domicile or office. Hell, his office has couches instead of desks. He's not turning folks away; he's welcoming the freaks, not demonizing any kind of substance use, being openly opposed to the Institute instead of ignoring or denying it exists while still being fairly tolerant of synths, even if he's not jumping onto the Railroad train. Heck, guy's got a Join the Railroad holotape in his office, and he's cultivated enough of an open-minded culture that you can find multiple others around town.

He's got some kind of haunted survivor guilt and gifted kid burnout/obligations (that wunderkind/prodigy feeling of being, so to speak, burdened with glorious purpose). He tried to kill himself and ended up with the possibility of immortality and possibly madness; he pushes himself like he's got an imminent death sentence hanging overhead. He's only been mayor a few years. He's scrambling to figure out how to run things and in the middle of that realizes he might be losing sight of what drives him in the first place. He's running from himself and running towards the person he's convinced he needs to be. He's ditched everything about himself and his family down to the dermis. He's the second person you meet and he kills a member of the community for threatening, depending on your interpretation, either a stranger or his own position. (As opposed to exiling a community member for writing unflattering articles about him and his administration.)

I (F40) signed up under a foreign army that recently moved into the Commonwealth sometime within the last few months. My friends told me not to, but the man who offered to sponsor me (M37, I'll call D) was literally too hot to say no to. The colonel (M28, P) of my army was vocal that this was a stupid idea. I have my own army, this is important.

D—who is fiercely loyal to his army—was revealed to be of a marginalized people. Specifically, the people his army came to the Commonwealth to genocide. I was told by his army's general (M 20, bffr) to kill him. I pretended that I was definitely, definitely going to kill him.

I went to go find D, and when we left his hideout, Captain Assbird was waiting for us. Assbird demanded I kill D, or he'd do it. Here's where I might be the asshole. I radioed MY army, and ordered our artillery to aim at the coords of Assbird's home-blimp-thing. This blimp houses their soldiers, as well as their children.

This worked, but afterwards, D and P were both pissed at me. D was upset I would threaten his family and Captain Assbird, despite everything, and P was angry that I would risk our army in entering a war with a superior force. My other friends were of mixed opinions.

I refuse a YTA conclusion for saving D, but was I too far in threatening his entire family, even though they're now trying to kill him, and risking my own people? Or was this justified?
