So I just finished SOS and while I do love the game, my feelings are mixed.

To start with the good: it's absolutely gorgeous. I adore the pixel style- every single frame is a piece of artwork. The combat itself is simple but very satisfying and fun. I did get frustrated when I died and got transported really far back in certain sections, but aside from that and occasional glitches, the gameplay was great.

By FAR my favorite parts are the interactions between Kratos and Calliope (duh, y'all all know what I'm about here). It's so wonderful finally seeing them interact and you can really tell that Calliope brings out a certain rare gentleness in her father. I thought it was complete genius on the part of the devs frame the story through the context of Kratos telling it to his daughter for a few reasons:

The tone is very light and would absolutely not be consistent with the brutal world of the greek saga, but it's heavily implied that Kratos is omitting/adding information as he's telling Calliope what went down. There's a moment where Calliope asks if Kratos is telling the truth about the talking griffin and monkeys (who are all very T-rated silly characters) , and she says something like "first a talking monkey, now a griffin? Is this really a true story, father?" and Kratos teasingly replies "I could not invent such things. Believe them or do not." There is another moment where Calliope expresses surprise at how 'nice' everyone in the story is, but as she's speaking she says 'I thought everyone in the agoge was mean... unless there are things you're not telling me,' in a faltering sort of way. Kratos omits the abuse he endured, and probably many other things he doesn't want her to hear about.

What is true depends entirely on interpretation. I personally do not consider the events in this game strictly canon, and also think that a lot of how Deimos and Kratos specifically are characterized is less the truth of how they actually were at that age, and more a reflection of how Kratos perceived his brother AND how he wishes he himself had acted. Kratos is honestly way too kind, but I have a feeling that Kratos's recollections reflect what was unspoken or unrealized while he was living the events of the game. He expresses a lot of guilt for having not done his duty to Visilis and even tells Deimos how it was good he (Kratos) was whipped because it made him stronger, but Kratos also admits how painful that beating was. I have a very hard time seeing child Kratos being as noble as he was in this game, but again, I don't think the story is intended to be taken as the whole truth.

The negatives... much as I enjoyed myself, I felt frustrated with how shallow the characters were. Amara and her father served no purpose, and Atreus/Eis disappointed me. I think it could have been a super cool reveal, but up to the point where Eis reveals himself as Atreus, he is basically treated as a throwaway character. I found myself bored with all the characters that weren't Deimos, Atreus, Calliope, or that Krypteia guy. They're cute, but not very compelling. I also wish they'd gone for a more 'old fashioned' way of speaking. The dialogue is very modern and it doesn't mesh well with the setting.

I was also so disappointed that Lysandra got fridged yet again. Child Kratos actually mentions her like, once in the story. I was initially fine with Lysandra not being in the game because I assumed the devs were trying to be compliant with the 2010 comic, in which Kratos and Lysandra meet as adults. However, they are already friends in SOS. I still gave some benefit of the doubt because Atreus also hadn't showed up yet, so I thought that perhaps they were saving both of their characters for later media, but no. It rubs me the wrong way that Atreus, who wasn't even in the og saga, gets his time to shine, but Lysandra doesn't. She is such a core part of the series and I'm really tired of her being ignored.

Today, Israel’s government is discussing plans for a full military occupation of the Gaza Strip, including Gaza City and southern regions. The stated aim: to eliminate Hamas and later hand governing control to allied Arab forces—not Israel—but with no clear path to peace or normalcy.

The humanitarian fallout is devastating. More than 61,000 Palestinians have died in this war; hunger and malnutrition are rising sharply. Hospitals in north Gaza have shut down, and 193 people have now died of starvation, nearly half of them children.

Aid remains blocked, water is scarce, and many risk dying of hunger or disease long before future promises arrive.
