It doesn't matter if you watched it dubbed or subbed - we are all fans. Different strokes for different folks, guys. Why do you care if someone likes it in a different language or a different adaptation? Will it really ruin your experience?

So, this is a strange request, but I'm having a bit of trouble, and I'd be totally grateful. If you watched/watch Sailor Moon in a foreign language, can you tell me how Usagi says her "in the name of the moon" speech? I've been searching, but I just can't find the speech in other languages. If you can either write out the speech or point me to a link where I could find it, I would be in your debt (and may provide a graphic or two...) Please, guys?

...for those complaining about the voice actress of Usagi being an "imitation," it's the same actress from the original.
...for those complaining at the voice is too high-pitched for the character, it's the same actress from the original.
...for those complaining, did you even watch the original show? Because I get if you don't like her voice in general, but if it's the same person, why would you expect something totally different?

So...I was up really early this morning (well, I slept in a bit [I get up at around 2 or 3 for my workout and then to rush to work]) and decided I would check out Crystal before I went to my workout this morning. And I was excited. I mean, I grew up with the show. I still love it. And first off, let me say that I am not disappointed in the show. I can definitely see why Naoko Takeuchi wanted creative control, and it shows.
However, I have some MAJOR thoughts about this, including a major concern. Please bear in mind in my review that I am not fluent in Japanese, nor am I Japanese, but I have studied the language and culture for several years.
Firstly, this show did something I thought it would never accomplish: it made me love Mamoru/Tuxedo Kamen a hell of a lot more. His voice is just perfect (cue swooning here), and I am soooo glad they kept his appearance similar to the manga (cue more swooning after seeing Mamoru in a tuxedo). Not to mention - the watch. The watch is there. Ladies and gentlemen, we have the watch. I always loved that aspect of the manga, and I am beyond thrilled that it is here.
Umino made me laugh out loud when he appeared. His hair is what stood out to me - of all things - and I just loved it. I think he's going to be great comic relief.
Usagi wearing some kind of lipstick was a bit distracting to me, but I'm being a bit nit-picky.
Here's where I am going to be very critical, and maybe some of you will disagree with me. One of the reasons I haven't been so active lately is because I am busy studying for my JLPT. I took it in college, and decided to take it again in a higher level (they changed the exam soon after I took it). Now, I watched the episode without subtitles and was able to understand a great deal. I saw something on tumblr about a quote taken from the episode, and was really confused. The subtitles are not accurate. In fact, there are several instances when I did a check and said out loud "...that's not right." I get that the subs are maybe trying to emulate an American style of speech, but it still irks me that it's not accurate.
The main example is when Usagi meets Mamoru, and they translate what she says as "Excuse me, they are not bumps, it's a hairstyle." Well, no. What she says is 「これはたんこぶじゃなくて、おだんごっていうのよ！」 - they got it half right when they translated it as "They're not bumps," but she does not say "it's a hairstyle." I frankly don't see what's so hard about translating it as "they're called 'odango!'" or even, "they're called 'buns!'" since he calls her "Ms. Buns-Head."
It's similar to when I watched 魔女の宅急便 (Kiki's Delivery Service) and the subtitle said "Let me make you hot chocolate" or something to that effect when what was said was 「コーヒーを飲みませんか」 which is asking if Kiki wanted a cup of coffee. Again, I'm probably being nit-picky, but I prefer accuracy with a bit of English emulation; don't give me "hot chocolate" when it's supposed to be "coffee."
In short, I'm going to continue watching the show and enjoying it, but WITHOUT subs. As a student of the language, I think I'll get more out of it by watching it sub-free.

Oh my God, can I just say how flattered I am on seeing this (and how embarrassed I am that I just now found this) ? I saw this on my phone this morning and literally threw it down because I was so surprised - in a good way, mind you. :)
I know updates have been scarce since the marathon (I've been taking a bit of a tumblr hiatus to avoid spoilers for another couple of fandoms), especially since my job keeps me more than a little busy, but I really want to thank everyone - followers, rebloggers, SCC, - for the support and love of my posts. I really love making graphics when I can, and there's been no shortage of inspiration as this is the year of Sailormoon.
Thank you again to everyone, and for the honor at Silver Crystal Community. I hope to be back with some new pieces soon.

So it's no secret that the posts have been scarce. I'm actually quite a fitness junkie, and I've been training for a 4-day race, which takes place soon. I'll be on hiatus until I get back from the race, and maybe (if we pray or sacrifice mochi to the rabbit on the moon) the new anime will be out and I'll have a lot of inspiration. I already have a graphic series in mind to try when I get back, so please look forward to it!
