Firstly, this show did something I thought it would never accomplish: it made me love Mamoru/Tuxedo Kamen a hell of a lot more. His voice is just perfect (cue swooning here), and I am soooo glad they kept his appearance similar to the manga (cue more swooning after seeing Mamoru in a tuxedo). Not to mention - the watch. The watch is there. Ladies and gentlemen, we have the watch. I always loved that aspect of the manga, and I am beyond thrilled that it is here.

Umino made me laugh out loud when he appeared. His hair is what stood out to me - of all things - and I just loved it. I think he's going to be great comic relief.

Usagi wearing some kind of lipstick was a bit distracting to me, but I'm being a bit nit-picky.

Here's where I am going to be very critical, and maybe some of you will disagree with me. One of the reasons I haven't been so active lately is because I am busy studying for my JLPT. I took it in college, and decided to take it again in a higher level (they changed the exam soon after I took it). Now, I watched the episode without subtitles and was able to understand a great deal. I saw something on tumblr about a quote taken from the episode, and was really confused. The subtitles are not accurate. In fact, there are several instances when I did a check and said out loud "...that's not right." I get that the subs are maybe trying to emulate an American style of speech, but it still irks me that it's not accurate.

The main example is when Usagi meets Mamoru, and they translate what she says as "Excuse me, they are not bumps, it's a hairstyle." Well, no. What she says is 「これはたんこぶじゃなくて、おだんごっていうのよ！」　- they got it half right when they translated it as "They're not bumps," but she does not say "it's a hairstyle." I frankly don't see what's so hard about translating it as "they're called 'odango!'" or even, "they're called 'buns!'" since he calls her "Ms. Buns-Head."

It's similar to when I watched 魔女の宅急便 (Kiki's Delivery Service) and the subtitle said "Let me make you hot chocolate" or something to that effect when what was said was 「コーヒーを飲みませんか」 which is asking if Kiki wanted a cup of coffee. Again, I'm probably being nit-picky, but I prefer accuracy with a bit of English emulation; don't give me "hot chocolate" when it's supposed to be "coffee."
