Imagine being proud that a warlord that massacred innocents was Greek, your fascism is showing.
What sort of people are these who use the word fascism like a caramel and accuse random people of it?
My grandfather took a bullet IN THE EYE fighting the fascists, you idiot. You don’t even know what fascism actually means. You can’t even see beyond your nose.
If I say a strawberry is red, is this what makes me a communist?
Are Mongols fascists for being proud of Ghenghis Khan?
Let alone that stating a fact is not being proud of it. I am not that proud of Alexander as I am prouder of dozens of other ancient Greeks, scientists and artists and defenders like Leonidas, Pausanias and Themistocles.
However, putting Alexander on the same level as the mass killers Hitler and Mussolini who only brought death and misery in the world is a fucking disgrace. Alexander is not even generally hated in the very same countries he conquered. The reason Ancient Greek civilisation is so studied nowadays is parts due to Alexander. The Greek language became the first Christian language and influenced most of the Indoeuropean languages due to Alexander. Alexandria of Egypt and its library that you lot often shed tears for existed and exists because of Alexander. Gorgeous monuments surviving in the Middle East, thanks to him. Even if I don’t like that he was a conqueror and had an inflated ego, as a Greek, I owe to NOT be dismissive of him!
And the last thing it would make sense to call my previous answer is fascist.
Idiot.
idiots act like he was the only conqueror in history. but at least he showed respect to the people he conquered and didn't want to destroy their monuments and culture. he didn't even lay a finger on Darios' family after he defeated him and showed nothing but respect to them. he wanted the people to like him, so they wouldn't go against him.
putting him in the same spot as proven psychopaths and mass-killers just shows they don't know sht about him or his and our history. and I'll surely continue being proud as fck of him and the massive impact he had on the world till today and how he spread greek culture like no one else. so many foreigners are in awe w what he managed to do and we as Greeks shouldn't be??? fck you.
I'd suggest them to actually open up a dictionary or Wikipedia at least to look up what fascist even means before throwing around big words around like no big deal.
“at least he showed respect to the people he conquered and didn’t want to destroy their monuments and culture” ...
have you heard of the destruction of thebes? the slaughter of the people in tyre? the destruction of persepolis? alexander’s deliberate slaughter of the massaga after a ceasefire? the destruction of the city of ora? the slaughter of the cossaens? the malli? these are just the ones i can remember off the top of my head?
looks like someone else “don’t know sht” about him or his history
