She fought her way through the fog in her mind. Lincoln? She thought. Itâs all she could think. She had to stop him. She had to save him. She fought to open her eyes and hoped heâd be there but all she saw was the ground. She could barely feel her limbs draped over her horse but she used what she could to get her feet on the ground.Â
She tried to clear her head and focus. They were far from Arcadia now, Over the hillside she could  see down into the courtyard. Then she saw them, dragging him out. Lincoln. Pike was behind them with more guards. She could run, if she started now she could make it down there and....and what? She could distract them long enough for him to run. Heâs not going to run, heâs not going to leave them. She could go in and...and die. She could die... but sheâd be with him. He got down on to his knees and her stomach dropped. Do something!Â
This canât happen. This isnât happening. Pike pulled out his gun and pointed it at his head. Please...She felt Kaneâs arm on her shoulder but she couldnât move. He looked up to the sky. Hot tears fell from her eyes. Look away. She wished Indra was there. Indra could tell her what to do. How to stop...BANG! She heard the sound first. Then she felt it, almost instantaneously everything inside her broke. She felt the shot in her chest. A giant hole. She wanted to puke. She watched his body fall onto the mud. May we meet again. As if the wind carried the words up to her. He didnât deserve this.Â
Pain shot through her body and she wanted to scream. Her finger nails dug into the palm of her hand. Pike! She clenched her jaw together. Deep breaths like Indra taught her. Sheâll kill Pike. It wouldnât bring him back. It wouldnât help her in anyway. But he doesnât get to kill Lincoln and walk away. He doesnât get to live.Â
