A friend of mine who teaches French was wondering the other day, do you know what the translation of "Now's your chance to be a Big Shot" would be into Français? :p
That's actually a tough question, since there isn't really any translation for the term "big shot". Well not any that would at all make sense to a modern audience.
But the gist of it would be something like:
"Là est ta chance d'être une grosse pointure"
"Now is your chance to be a big shot"
(Highlighted the different parts)
If you're interested to read more, another thing in french is that there is two ways to translate "you" a formal ("vous") and an informal ("tu").
Here I chose the informal, like he's trying to be our friend to gain our trust.
But you could just as easily put "votre" (formal) as salesman would most often use formal language with clients.
AS FOR THE TERM "BIG SHOT":
Like I said there isn't any one to one translation, since it's slang, but some french approximations could be:
"gros bonnet" very old mafia term I never really heard, (literally "big hat", specifically those warm hat for winter)
"grosse pointure" the one I chose which I personally heard a few times tho rare, (literally "big shoe size")
or even "gros calibre", which is the one the french fan translation of the game uses I think (don't like the french translation tbh) which I don't really like because I personally feel like it has a weird s*xual connotation and I've also never really heard it anywhere. (literally "big caliber")
All of these are correct and could be used as stand in for "big shot"
Another one could be "un grand de ce monde" (literally "someone big in this world" which isn't a slang term like the others but makes sens and would more easily be understood by a modern audience like the term "big shot" is.
(Also also you could technically use "big shot" and not translate it, it works)
Rant over lol, I'm not the only french person in the world lol so you will hear different opinions and mine isn't necessarily the "right" one since, you know, there isn't.
