i know some people don’t have time to do hours of research, so here is everything john barrowman has done to get cancelled:

let’s start with the basics: what got him blacklisted.

john barrowman was known for always getting his genitals out on set as a joke. this has been known about for years and was openly spoken about during his doctor who era. in 2008, executive producer julie gardner was reported to have spoken to john about his behaviour and, to her knowledge, it had stopped. john publically apologised for his actions in november the same year.

whether it had stopped or not, i will talk about in a moment. what i want to talk about first is why john barrowman’s flashing is bigger news now. the answer is that noel clarke made the rumours resurface. he had previously commented on john barrowman’s behaviour on set in 2015 – as seen in this panel talk video below, where he reminds camille coduri of how john barrowman put his penis on her shoulder one time. but, noel clarke brought it up again during his own police investigations for sexual misconduct to detract attention from himself (noel clarke was accused of harrassment, bullying and the groping of twenty women).

now, i will admit there is some unfairness to noel comparing his allegations to john’s, and how the media leaped to give them the same treatment. it seems that john barrowman’s ideas were his deranged ideas of “fun” whereas noel clarke’s allegations are far more extreme and led to police involvement. BUT, the fact is, john took little accountability for those silly actions.

i mentioned earlier that gardener told him in 2008 to stop, and that he promised he would, but john barrowman was still flashing on sets years after this – and openly sharing stories about it in conventions. the below link is to a video from when he was in the cast of arrow (2012-2019) and he tells a story about posing and rubbing his naked genitals all over co-star katie cassidy’s trailer whilst she was off filming.

eventually, john was blacklisted for his misconduct from the bbc and arrow cut him from the show. however, any attempt at an apology that has followed these events has been poor and has been john trying to victimise himself. he says in an interview with STV that everything was “misconstrued.” he says that he did not “flash people randomly,” but would just ask people to leave him where he is if he needed to get changed for a scene (which we know, from stories he’s openly told fans on panels, is not true). he says that he “doesn’t regret” what he did and that “no body complained,” which we also know is not true because gardener had to speak with him.

so, not everyone was comfortable with his behaviour. christopher eccleston also has appeared to have called him out on it, and although it was not entirely what lead to eccleston leaving doctor who, it was one fragment which built up to that decision. @itsatorchwoodthing [me] has some research to articles on this.

ever since, john has acted bitterly over what has happened to him. when he was not asked to be in the 60th anniversary specials of doctor who, despite knowing he was blacklisted, he released a passive-agressive video where he briefly mentioned it “breaks his heart” he was not asked to help celebrate the anniversary, especially when he was “one of the few openly gay actors playing an iconic hero at the time.”

moving on from john’s sexual misconduct on sets, it is important to note how he has acted around fans at conventions – and, in particular, minors.

here is a link [discussing] a fan’s experience. john, after getting the fan’s costume wrong, tells them that he would “still do” them. the audience gasps. then john asks “how old?” the fan says “fourteen.” john strides over to the couch and says in shock “i’m sitting down.” he then shouts out “i’m referring to the character!”

the fan notes they didn’t think much of it, but meeting john afterwards made the situation worst. he told the young fan that he knew he could talk to them like that because they’re mature for their age. he said “in your mind, you’re 18,” when clearly, someone is either an adult or a minor.

here is another experience. this is what happened at the 2016 wizard world chicago con. in the linked video, john barrowman talks about his penis. he also shows his underpants to the audience, which comprises of young children. we know it comprises of young children because he invites a young child to come onto the stage and sit down, whilst john gets dressed into a t.shirt behind the other seat. the audience is screaming and wolf-whistling at john being semi-naked. whilst we cannot make assumptions about how the child is feeling, or why (they might just be shy or nervous about being on stage) they look uncomfortable. john barrowman shows awareness that he is talking to a child (and has been behaving this way in front of children) because he asks them if their mum and dad is at the show.

a final incident, which is extremely difficult to provide evidence for (due to it being posted as an instagram story) is john filming a stranger’s bottom. the fact that this video has not been found should be taken into account as you form your judgements on john. we will never know the full context for this incident. what i [anonymous writer] have been been told is that john was sitting on a dock in this video, people were running by, and john commented on how he was not interested in the women. at the end of the video, a man allegedly ran in front of john and john turned the camera to film him.
