The great Miyazaki is somewhat famous for his sweeping dismissals, but I believe there’s political substance behind his curt condemnations of mainstream culture.

Miyazaki abhors a certain strain of Japanese nationalism which has seen something of a resurgence in recent years and crept into the chaotic free-for-all of anime and manga storytelling. He’s been a vocal critic of prime minister Shinzō Abe’s politics, including the denial of Japanese war crimes and sex slavery, the ceremonial honouring of Japanese war criminals, and the proposal to amend the Constitution to re-introduce the possibility of war.

As it stands, the Constitution of Japan includes the remarkable Article 9 which outlaws war — a measure which was forcefully imposed by the US after dropping two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Needless to say, there’s something twisted about achieving a ban on war by means of an atomic holocaust; but Miyazaki, a child of World War II and its horrors, supports the ban.

Miyazaki is equally critical of the US. When “Spirited Away” won an Oscar in 2003, he refused to travel to Hollywood to accept the award, later explaining “I didn’t want to visit a country that was bombing Iraq”.

Out of shelter, probably going to be staying in the car. I wont stay with transphobic people. I can’t afford to stay in a motel and stuff. PLEASE HELP MY CAT! Fiona is an approximately 13 year old, three-legged Calico who has been with my family (my mom and me) for almost 10 years. She was abandoned, and showed up on our doorstep asking for food occasionally until one day she came with a limp that turned out to be the result of a shattered back leg which we had to amputate. From that day, she officially became our cat. Now, she needs care again. Fiona was diagnosed with diabetes today (3/12/2018) by a local veterinarian. She also needs dental care of which we don’t yet know the cost. Her physical and lab testing just put my mom and me out $170 that we don’t have and the insulin prescription will be another $170 or so for a six month supply (not including syringes needed to administer it). Fiona also has new dietary needs that require us to pay more for her cat food. All in all, this could cost anywhere from 500 to 1000 dollars and I am erring on the side of it costing more. I know this may seem a petty thing to ask money for, but I love this cat. Please help if you can and share!

Sorry this one’s a little late.

Trans people have to walk this really fine line with respect to acceptable gender expression. Deviating from what is considered ‘normal’ for their gender results in the credibility of that gender being called into question in ways that just don’t happen with cis people.

(while this happens with all trans people,  I’m going to focus on trans women for this post)

The truth is, while feminism is making awesome inroads in creating space for women to adopt a range of gender expressions beyond what social norms of ‘women’ have prescribed, so often that only applies to cis women. Trans women who ‘break’ femininity are regarded as essentially  'letting slip’ their ‘actual gender’.

This is a symptom of the fact that trans people are largely still considered to be ‘acting like ’ their gender - 'acting’ being the operative term. People see their gender as being something that sits upon a deeper truth - some less genuine, something deceptive.

There’s another side to this, of course, for trans women who adopt non-transgressive expressions of femininity - they’re accused (often within the feminist community) of reinforcing stereotypes, damaging the image of women.

So there’s really no way to win. Trans women who conform too much are essentially accused of being in bad drag, trans women who don’t conform enough are accused of a lack of commitment to their gender.

except literally all of the four singers are straight. and the song was written by five men and cardi b. 

about the song, rita said “at first listen, you’ll be like ‘oh wow. she’s definitely letting us know that she likes girls.’ but it’s not that…the song is basically about females complimenting other females and supporting each other”. 

so like. she’s singing this song (written by almost all men) about girls wanting to kiss girls, and then frantically pulling a no-homo and saying that the song is about feminism somehow. not girls loving girls. which completely invalidates the love of women that wlw like myself actually have.

and her trying to immediately advertise and sell the song as a “bisexual anthem” when it features no actual bisexual artists. the lgbtq community is not a marketing campaign.

(also the song’s inspiration is apparently katy perry’s “i kissed a girl” so no wonder it’s a mess tbh)

tl;dr: rita ora, charli xcx, bebe rexha, and cardi b released a song trying to profit off of the lgbtq community and wlw specifically while doing literally nothing to actually help our community and marginalizing the voices of actual lgbtq artists.

- don’t overdo it (the reason why this example is Bad is because the cis person overuses all these masculine words and it’s too extreme).

- don’t say anything about how he is ‘biologically a woman’. never mention that to a trans person. ever.

- don’t shower him with compliments. yes, one or two might be good, but he isn’t asking you to confirm that he looks male (most of the time).

- do show sympathy. tell him you’re sorry that he feels that way and try to comfort him if you can (and if you try to comfort him, refer to the points above this one so you don’t do anything wrong).

- do ask if you can help. if he says that you can’t, leave him alone till he’s feeling better (or maybe try to cheer him up by changing the subject).

Update: Hello fellow humans. I would like to thank everyone who has already helped me and my family. I have another post about my family’s situation on my profile and this is just an update on what’s happening.

So my dad has currently lost his job, due to his leg injury. Now, all we have is the money my mother is getting for my younger siblings every two weeks which isn’t enough to pay our rent, bills and buy food at the same time. I’ve been offline lately trying to do something to help my family. I got a job but they hardly ever give me shifts, so I’ve been calling my manager all the time yet he always tells me the same thing and that is to wait until he rings me or messages me when something comes up. I’ve been having a few interviews yet none of them have gone well. The ones that didn’t call me back I rang them up and they told me that they have already found someone. I was ultra pissed because I’ve been waiting and hoping yet they never rang to let me know. On Sunday we had run out of food, so I decided to get out of the house and I was walking all day feeling lost, trying to do something for my family rather than nothing. I got in contact with a friend, and they said they’d spare a little money to help us out a bit and I was so very thankful that I began to cry. It’s very saddening to go through something like this, and not have anyone around to help us. Right now, we are in desperate need of some assistance. I’ve been feeling more depressed lately because of the things my family is going through. But writing fantasy stories is what keeps my mind off things because JK Rowling is who inspires me to be a writer. I love her work so much. Praying also makes me feel a lot better as well. I have made friends that I’ve met over the internet who I can talk to about my problems. Those people make me smile with their kind words and their good heart.

Somedays I feel like I’m suffocating and that I’m not good enough in people’s eyes, the reason I’m insecure sometimes around people.

But with every struggle, my parents will always be my anchor. I want to make them proud someday. It may not be today but I will do something extraordinary that will make them happy.

I need to see a doctor. I’ve been having some health issues and I need to see a doctor but I can’t afford a visit to one. My health insurance deductible is in the thousands and I’m nowhere near it, I haven’t seen a doctor (besides immediate care when I’m really sick that my parents pay for) for a checkup in many years. The cost for an appointment would be more than half my paycheck which isn’t feasible for me because my car payment takes up 1/3 of every paycheck.
