What I love most about hayffie (at least from my perspective) is that it is the epitome of I love you on purpose. They never would have met without the Hunger Games, but the Hunger Games are the worst thing to happen to Panem. The Games made them both killers in different, polarised ways (Haymitch - self-defence, direct kills, a child fighting other children ; Effie - indirect, not entirely intentional but nonethless premeditated, an adult executing children). The corruption was there but so was the love. During Snow's regime there was no possibility of a future so there had to have been no logical aim with them being together. Devotion as a conscious choice. It wasn't meant to be them but it only could be them. No matter how much mutual resentment and guilt and trauma they built up there was still the love.
