You say you counsel post-abortive women. Can you please inform me as to what education/credentials/qualifications you have that allow you to counsel?

I really don’t feel like I should have to prove ANYTHING to you. But whatever, for anyone who wants to know here’s a few personal things about my education and qualifications.

I graduated high school at 16. Went off to college and got my bachelors in psychology. When I was pro-choice I interned at a local women’s health facility that performed abortions. Abortions were more common than anything else done there. I would say 90% of the women that came in for abortions sat in the waiting room crying. It was totally heart breaking. But now I counsel post abortive women at a local cpc. Currently, I am studying for my masters. My goal is to open up a CPC in the future. I help women, I empower women, and I love doing it. I thought I was doing that when I was pro-choice, I quickly learned that I was doing the exact opposite.

But this blog isn’t about me and what I’ve done. It’s about exposing the truth, informing people, helping to empower women, changing hearts and minds, and most importantly saving defenseless human lives.

You’re definitely not obligated, but having a education will often determine either or not you can be taken seriously about certain subjects you’re preaching about.

If I may ask, are you using the word “counsel” loosely? The vast majority of states (and forgive me if you’re in Canada, I do not know their requirements) require a master’s degree, minimum, to be a counselor in any specialty - so my impression is that you are more of a sidewalk “counselor” if you have not at least completed your master’s yet. I feel like this is something you should know if you’ve really completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology. I looked into counseling while I was in grad school, in California there is little to no option without your master’s.

Either way, you should not refer to what you do as counseling if you are not actually a counselor, which, given your own description of your education and qualifications, you are not. Being a counselor is something these people earn after years of training and education and it is quite disrespectful to call yourself one if you are not qualified.

This is why the term “sidewalk counselor” is so offensive and ill-conceived.

Also, in case you were interested for more information, in addition to obtaining a masters degree there is some level of supervisory requirements after you get the diploma and a national/state test. For example, in Texas (which ironically has one of the more strict standards) I had to complete 60 hours of course work, two licensing exams ( We use the NBCC test as our “comps” during course work and then have to take the state licensing exam for our actual license) and then have to obtain 3000 hours of supervision (1,500 direct and 1,500 indirect) in no less than 18 months.

So you are 10000000% correct when you say that this person is operating under false professionalism.

And here, readers, is someone who I will take seriously as they profess their education and qualifications. They are specific, they are informed, they are aware of the requirements, and they are clearly not lying.

Instead, you choose to arrogantly and very incorrectly call what you do counseling. You’re not counseling. You’re just talking at people. You do not have the education or the training required to be a counselor.

Nobody’s twisting your words. We’re just telling you a fact - that you are not a counselor, you are not qualified to be a counselor, and what you do is not counseling.

I can fix a few scratches and give some stitches. That doesn’t mean I can call myself a doctor. Get it now?

Wow. This is crazy and kind of pointless. Let me say this one more time. I donate my time at a CPC talking to women about their feelings, thoughts, etc etc concerning their pregnancy or abortion. Call it whatever you like but when I “talk at” these women they are grateful that I am there to listen, offer advice, and support. You can downgrade that all you like but I’ve helped more women through troubled times than you have in your entire life and that’s more important to me than a silly little title determined by my education.

Now can you please stop assuming and putting words in my mouth? I am ACTUALLY at a loss for words because of how petty this whole thing is.

Dearie, let me explain to you a thing. You’re obviously very new to this.

I, unlike you, actually do have my master’s in Psychology. I graduated from a CSU (the specific one I choose not to disclose on this forum) a breath shy from a 4.0 gpa. If you ask me nicely I’ll even discuss my thesis with you.

Needless to say, you are in absolutely no position to tell me what I’ve done in my life. You do not know my age, you did not (until now) know my education level, you do not know my career, or what I do in my free time. For example, did you know that I donated bone marrow to a little girl in Utah who is now alive because of that donation? I’m guessing not, because I hadn’t told you that. You therefore have no way of knowing how much good I do in this world.

You are not paying attention to this discussion. I have never said anything about you helping anyone, or not helping anyone. All I have said is that you are not a counselor, and that you are not qualified to be a counselor. I do not think it is right or fair of you to call what you do counseling, when you have not had the training nor the education to be a counselor. That’s called false advertising. I have not once given you grief over how much you do or do not help people, so please do not put words in my mouth (as I certainly have not done so to you).

Get in the game. Myself and others calling you out on your lies is not “petty.” It’s a warning to the people who follow you - a warning that you clearly cannot be trusted.

It is a slap in the face to people who work hard and get a degree in something, when you just steal their job title without doing the same. To call yourself a counselor because what you do vaguely resembles what a real counselor does is a joke.

A real counselor has more education. A real counselor had supervised experience starting off with someone with even more education. A real counselor does not have an agenda when they advise someone. You are not a counselor even though you and your employer have chosen to use an inappropriate, inaccurate job title. You are kidding yourself.
