Note: Hello readers! The wait of several years for Avatar 2 was worth every measly second. I really loved the nostalgia of seeing something so majestic again and since I saw the movie I really wondered if I should write something from Avatar and for which specific character. Just today I decided that it would be for Neteyam because my heart needs to heal.
Highlights:
Neteyam x Metkayina (Tonowari's eldest daughter)
Zephyr will be the name of the protagonist, she is 18 years old. That means he is older than Neteyam by three years.
Zephyr's skin color is different from the clans featured in both movies.
No image or gif used is mine, credits to whom appropriate.
English is not my first language, if I have any mistake, please tell me and I will correct it. Please.
Chapter 1
"Why must you always protect me?" "It's my job, always."
"Do you at least understand the consequences of your actions? Of course not, you've never thought about that." "You just want to control and create a perfect being and unfortunately that doesn't exist."
"You are not part of me." "It's good to know where the hate comes from."
"Why don't you like me?" "I don't, I just envy you."
"I see you, Zephyr." "You do not know what you say. I do not deserve it. Listen well, my work with you is done, save your family and you are free to come home. That was your biggest dream, take advantage of it and continue making pleasant memories with your loved ones and find someone who makes you happy.” “I thank you for everything and the great opportunity to stay alive, but I already chose who I want by my side for the rest of my life.”
Disjointed conversations float through my subconscious, alternating in intensity and in soft whispers that are filled with pain, anguish, discomfort, loneliness, longing, adoration, and calm. It was an overwhelming mix of past and future sensations and feelings.
I sigh and open my eyes lazily, it's still night and the atmosphere around the marui is calm with an air of security and comfort to continue sleeping until dawn appears on the horizon of the clan's coasts. Still, I mentally run through today's to-do list: repairing a couple of nets, redoing personal medicinal concoctions. There weren't too many tasks, but getting the food and the fruits or objects to use to complete the tasks took a long time.
Stretching my body as I got up, I picked up the blanket from the floor, folded it, and arranged it on the pile of fabrics I've been creating for several months. I move freely through the space looking for the tool to thread the nets, in the process moving my tail in a gentle sway, leaving the pannier ready in a corner for when I return from a hike. She stroked the trees and smiled thanking them for allowing me to make my home among their strong roots. Although it is not necessary to do it, it is a small habit that I acquired since I became independent from my parents three years ago.
The sand is removed with each step without any problem, the whole body is relaxed, each breath I take is more leisurely, letting my mind clear and go into a calm trance without any immediate thought of the future. I just enjoy the mesmerizing moment caused by the movement of the sea and the breeze that surrounds me in the now. The luminescent lights fit beautifully into the natural surroundings like exact pieces of a puzzle. Pandora's life was majestic in her own way, like every being that lives in it.
My ears flick back slightly detecting the sound of small waves hitting the sand and insects actively taking advantage of the last few minutes of darkness before resting for the day. I stop walking when I visualize the area of the coast that will be full of curious and contemptuous glances in a couple of hours because of the foreigners of the forest in search of a refuge for their family. He smiled when comparing the irony of the scene with my mother's words: We shouldn't judge by sight, but by what we feel and always be altruistic with others. Same words that calmed me when I was little to be different. But now in my vision they didn't mean anything because she was going to be the first to judge with the sight of her saying: They are mestizos, they are part demons from heaven. Why should we give him shelter?
In a way I can understand the immediate rejection of the “uturu, sanctuary” proposal because she doesn't want to accept the reality of the impending war against the GDR, she really got the point from her. However, the contemptuous and dismissive way in which he refers to the genetics and physique of the forest group makes them openly judged by the entire clan and I do not approve of that at all. They don't deserve to feel different, the Tsahik should be considered and peacefully denied without exploding, without hurting. Because in each member of the family, he could see the weight of the immediate change they underwent by leaving everything they knew, their customs, friends, family and position of boss in order to protect both their clan and their own family. They had to undo and redo ties to everything around them to be safe.
A cold breeze undoes the vision and only in a few seconds I feel the tranquility of the coast, far from the uncertainty, humiliation and viciousness that await you in a few hours. As I continue walking I can only think of one sentence: "The Sullys are one."
A very charming phrase for that peculiar family.
Even when I did not know them physically and personally, part of their past and future acts were revealed through my dreams. The energy was manageable although at times it seemed to be volatile, they were always looking for ways to cope with their personalities. Not in the perfect way, but in an affable way where the goal was happiness through family unity.
By the time I decided to help them, it was the fourth month of constant dreams in which a member of the family stood out, the firstborn: Neteyam. That with one of his last sentences marked my heart: "I want to go home." A few simple words that hurt every time they echoed in my subconscious. I made a promise to myself to break his fate, even if it wasn't easy.
Observe the sky illuminated by Polyphemus's huge disk as well as the reflected light from some nearby moons. In a few minutes it would be daylight and he had better go and repair the nets. On the way back I increased the speed to feel the cold wind crash through my body, I laughed softly for the pleasant sensation of peace. I loved the silence before everything restarts again.

A couple of hours ago I had finished repairing the damaged nets and was back with breakfast for my family. The fish were crossed in half by a rope to keep them together in a single line. The sand under my feet was compact due to the water that it distilled, surely when I got to leave the provisions they would be at any time to wake up and start the day's activities.
"Zephyr, wait." Father comes out whispering my name before he has a chance to lead me completely away from the family hut.
"I still have things to do father, maybe I have time to stay another time." while I speak I turn around without making the feint of turning to look at him. Although most of the time I get away with vague sentences and making hollow promises, something tells me that this time it won't be like that.
"At least stay at meals with us so we can talk like before." father grabs my hand and places one of his on my head to ruffle my hair "Zephyr..."
"Father, nothing is like before." I cut off his sentence, take a breath and give myself the courage to face his gaze. "Not for today, I'll have more time with you next season." I try to force a smile and affirm my next words with certainty “Prepare the guards well, today a foreign visit will come. And only if I want to will I voluntarily join in teaching.” he smiles and keeps shaking my hair like when i was little.
I was about to mention that Ronal wouldn't agree with unexpected visits at all, but his presence cut off any friendly atmosphere between the two of us and that indicated that it was time to get away. I take a step back and bow my head in respect to both of them. “Good morning, Tsahik. I hope breakfast is to his liking." with my last words covered in sweetness and respect, I head to the next task of the day.
As I walked back to my marui, the coast was more crowded and inhabited with numerous families looking for their first meal. Children jumped into the water laughing followed by someone in charge, young people chatted animatedly while they called their ilus, couples holding hands. Everything continued its course without any apparent problem because although they didn't say anything as they passed you could see the antipathy they felt towards me in their eyes.

Medicine bags are usually equipped with a leather case with herbs, lancets, and medicine vials. Normally the one that uses these resources to heal is the Tsahik, but to stay out of the way and not go to her I have decided to have my own resources and get to know the condition of my body. In my medicine bag, seagrass is added, which, however simple it may seem, usually calms my exhaustion after using my song.
I secure the collected ammunition in the saddlebag as I pass it over my head, just when I decide to go back out I see a flash behind the baskets. I take the crystal I keep from the sky people ship and see my reflection somewhat distorted. I note that while I keep the physical structure of the Metkayins as in: the forearms, the lower legs which are expanded to include a fin-like structure, and a flared tail in the shape of a paddle.
I don't stick to skin tone that swings more to green or turquoise than traditional blue, my skin undertone is shell-like, like a totally pale pink that fades into the flowing wavy streaks of sandy brown and instead present in the eyes a blue or yellow color, they are green. Another particularity that I can share is curly black hair. But having two similarities does not make you fit among the clansmen, it only takes one difference to be treated as distant. I think I can understand Lo'ak from my dreams.
He placed the piece of glass between the cloths so that it cannot be seen with the naked eye again and I prepare to train before my friends from the forest arrive.

I stifle the groan as I run my hand over the recently acquired wound on the inside of my left forearm, it's inevitable that it won't bleed as I quickly swim back to shore avoiding obstacles. Once there were a few meters left, the noise of the clan was louder, I avoid the illus and go to the surface, dodging each individual who tries to come forward and see the outsiders.
I entered right in the area near Neytiri at the moment when Mum started to say half-breeds as she left Kiri's tail and at the moment when she reached for Lo'ak's hand.
"Stop" I started boldly while most of them looked at me with astonishment and disapproval, I didn't take my eyes off my mother's for a second, they had contained anger for the mistake I had just made. We could both continue, but I had to continue before I lost the surprise opportunity, I turned to the newcomers and put my fingers on their foreheads to show them respect, they did the same "Welcome, I'm sorry for the intrusion, but what my mother was trying to say to understand is that the rejection of the uturu requested by his family is due to the fact that he does not want an imminent war against the GDR.” Her looks jumped between shock, astonishment, disbelief and doubt, she wasn't going to say anything else. But it was noticeable that between Jake and Neytiri the immediate reply to my words arises.
Mother grabs the injured arm and begins to turn it until she drags me to the bottom while father resumes the situation, the fabric began to loosen and by now the blood was already noticeable while a line of blood moved towards my fingers. I removed my arm from her grasp without a second thought, still holding out indignation at the public humiliation.
“You are always unpredictable and volatile, you will have a very severe penalty.” she angrily whispers "keep quiet, you've said too much already." I didn't think to answer at all, I know I acted without thinking and that has a very high cost.
I am keeping an eye on the following conversations between the Olo'eyktan and Jake Sully which consists of the questioning of his arrival and the reply based on the protection of his family. I can notice that among the group two gazes fixed on me stand out: Tsireya and Neteyam, where the first denoted sadness and understanding, while the second seemed to go between curiosity and amazement. “Treat them like brothers and sisters.Teach them our customs” my father's words make me look away and focus on the handshake. Both seem to have reached a plausible agreement.
"My children: Tsireya, Ao'nung and Zephyr." he points out to each one “they will be taught our customs and ways as Metkayinas.”
Even though I knew it could happen, I was surprised to be included in the final decision to teach and not after the great show added to the list of disappointments. An immense discussion is coming in the family marui, under my ears slightly just thinking about it.
"Tsireya will show you around your new home." my mother manages to affirm her before walking away with me.
The Sullys being led by my sister is the last thing I see before I look away. And to think that there are many known and uncertain futures to face, but a genuine smile grows on my face having finally met them.
