┇ ❝ Fingertips clasp tensely round a pink flip phone as if trying to press her own discomfort into its metallic cladding as she fumbles. She deprecates new faces like no other, though particularly those that expect her to open up – and weren’t it for the temporary stay away from home, it wouldn’t have required a transient change of therapists. She likes her own one back in Paris, a woman in her fifties, always wearing gold-framed glasses and talking as if she knew Angelique would rather be sat at home, drinking wine, trying to comprehend old poetry. Romanticising, she calls it, forcefully making the task to heal a beautiful thing. That it’s a hard one is left unspoken. 

She brings her gaze up from the floor, momentarily meeting her counterpart’s contemplative eyes, and casting it off elsewhere. “ Dr. de Beauvoir would begin our sessions by asking me how I felt that day. If you plan to do the same, monsieur, I’m doing fine. “ Her voice drips heavily, accent thick and melodic though words heavy, somehow, depleted and quiet. She knows her presence during the sessions inevitably, if slowly, is meant to help her heal but her posture says otherwise.

┇ ❝ How much time do we have? “

Constantine is rather young in his profession, especially when compared to Angelique's former therapist. He's looked over her files, spoken to the older woman over the phone, and has done his due diligence like a veteran in the field. However, he knows better than most that what is written in notes or taken from a fellow observer can often be different from seeing the person in the flesh and forging your own path through their mind. The moment he sees his new patient, she's already speaking of the woman with a sense of security and trust, making an effort to mold him into a duplicate in her image.

His lips offer a smile, curving with consideration and entertainment in equal measures. "Fine is, to put it in French terms, une réponse de merde," he speaks in a tone that mirrors his expression before sitting down opposite to her. He looks casual from his attire to his posture. He wears jeans and a short sleeved shirt with the words 'trust me, I'm a doctor' printed on the front, undoubtedly a gag gift given to him that he's taken a liking to. His eyes are attentive but his body is relaxed into the leather, giving a tilt of the head to her.

"Let's call it an hour, give or take," he answers before moving on. "I thought I'd start off with something else," he's not going to interrogate her about her mood. She's uncomfortable. It's obvious. He's not going to get anywhere by forcing her to admit to it. "I'm just as new to you as you are to me, so what would you like to ask?"

🐉 What triggers their past experiences? Certain words? Objects?

For past experiences, I’ll limit it to his time with Rupin. Cigarettes, the smell of cloves or turmeric, any swear word uttered in Hindi will immediately bring him back.

💀 How would the muse prefer to die if they were given a choice?

Obviously, Con would rather not die, but if he had to... Asteroid collision. #1, it would give him enough time to make sure he did everything he ever wanted to do. #2, when it does finally happen, it’s quick, so no pain. #3, no body to bury and nobody to mourn. It’s perfect.

👻 If your muse became a ghost, who would be their go-to haunt?

Horatio. Constantine would have a hilarious time haunting Horatio, especially since Horatio believes fully in ghosts. On a serious level, he’d visit Emory naturally. I think he’d also check out Idris, and prob have some fun with Vidris a little. I vote for SW to completely be able to see him because children and their psychic powers, I tell ya.

😈 How would the muse react if one of their loved ones were hurt?

Loved ones really only include his dogs and Emory. If anyone hurt Cosette or Jean, I pray for them because they would be destroyed. With Emory, Constantine would take care of him first and then on his own without Emory knowing, find out who did it, and fuck them up.

🎥 What’s their worst memory?

Kelsey dying. Even though Constantine wasn’t romantically attached to him and by all means strung him along, underneath he actually was the closest thing he had to a friend at the time. He was also 100% innocent in all respects, and in the end he became collateral damage. Kelsey dying was the final catalyst in his mission to bring the Executive Director down.

🎲 What is their perspective on life? Do they find it fulfilling or dreadful?

Since I answered the mun part here, I’ll just answer Con’s parts.

😊 = What makes the mun and muse happiest?

Animals, especially his own.

😭 = What makes the mun and muse the saddest?

He doesn’t get sad too often, but I’d say if he feels like he’s not making progress with a patient to the extent where he’s seeing the patient deteriorate instead of improve.

😡 = What makes the mun and muse the angriest?

 Con’s father has really been the bane of his existence. Nowadays, that’s neutralized, though.

👻 = What is the scariest thing to ever happen to the mun and muse?

When Kelsey was killed in front of him, that was the scariest moment of his life. Part of the reason why was that he knew that was meant for him.

💙 = What is one thing that can calm down the mun and muse? Is it a person, thing, or place?

There are a couple of things that Con does. The go-to is either a gin and tonic or chia tea, depending on what’s going on in his life. Other times, he may just spend time with Emory or Eva. It’s strange that Emory actually does help in having him relaxed. It’s something he never thought would be possible.

💚 = What is one thing that makes the mun and muse jealous?

Con is very confident. He doesn’t remember a time when he felt jealousy… except maybe when he was a kid because he was an attention-starved child when Darla wasn’t there.

💛 = How would the mun and muse describe their best friends?

“If it turns out I have a sister I never knew anything about, I’d hope it would be Eva. She gives me hell for some things, but it could be worse.”

❤️ = How does the mun and muse approach romantic relationships? Is either currently in a relationship or do they have a crush? 

Con had a small crush on Dr. Tarin Adler, his mentor during the time he was studying medicine, but that was about it emotionally until Emory. They’re a couple without calling themselves a couple, and Con is comfortable with the arrangement now. 

🥂 = How is either the mun’s or muse’s alcohol tolerance? What are their favorite alcoholic drinks?

He loves a good drink, can’t lie. His tolerance is pretty good, but he is not a heavy drinker, in spite of the persona. It’s very rare for him to take more than what he can handle, but when that does happen, he’s high-functioning and the only big difference is that he’s more open with his words.

💫 = How does either mun or muse handle being sick? Do they need someone to take care of them, or are they capable of taking care of themselves just fine?

Con just lets the medical side of him kick in and knows what’s wrong, what he should do, etc. So, if anyone tells him differently, he’s going to chop their head off because he’s not in the mood. He’d probably lock Emory out when he’s sick because he knows he’ll get the attitude, but wouldn’t really resist a phone call or texts.

🐯 = What animals would best be associated with the mun and muse? 

I think of a snake, which I suppose isn’t too complimentary, but he’s great with his tongue. Badumtss. Just his movements come with such confidence and he’s usually slithering into something slyly. Also, wrapping himself around others seductively.

💮 = What are the mun’s and muse’s opinions of each other?

“I guess ‘no comment’ isn’t an option… She has honesty going for her.”

I would love to have Con’s personality. He’s easy-going, but he’s also very strategic. In a way, he’s a very loose version of Sebastian without the psychopathy.

🍀 = Who is an important person in both the mun’s and muse’s life?

If he’s still eligible to be a virgin sacrifice, Idris has a lot of explaining to do.

Constantine would act normal on a public level, but privately he wouldn’t be okay. He would be searching for the truth relentlessly, but there would be those moments where the possibility of him actually being dead hits him. For the most part, he’d be in denial, but the more time that elapses, the thinner that wears. 

He would attempt to get Sebastian involved because his resources with Con’s would be incredibly useful, but because Sebastian sees that Constantine truly cares and wants this, he just toys with him. It doesn’t help matters. 

Eventually, he confides in Joachim that he’s concerned that the worst case scenario is reality. He may also, in a roundabout way, finally admit to loving him.

Send Me A Decade

…and I’ll describe to you my muse’s style, interests, and how they’d make a living during that decade.

*In all verses, Constantine continues to smoke. Only in modern day does Con actually use it sparingly, especially lately. 

Verse: 1920s

Constantine surrounds himself with the most famous and influential people belonging to the Lost Generation, including writers like F. Scott Fitzgerald, who he had a brief fling with. Constantine considered him too cocky, though, even by his standards, and had fun in taming him behind the scenes. 

He slips into the nightlife of NYC, visiting jazz clubs and breaking prohibition laws. What little alcohol that is legal is utterly disgusting, but so are the spirits that are made during this time. He only drinks gin that has specifically been smuggled from England, where he knows it won’t be tampered with. 

During this time period, Freud is well-established, but Constantine, the younger and more in-touch face of the Roaring Twenties, argues against some of his theories. He amasses his own following and selective clients, even at a time when psychology is still finding its footing and much of it is misunderstood by the general public.

In the last year of WWI, in 1918, Constantine was old enough to be a doctor in the trenches. He saw many things he still thinks about during the 20s, but takes it as a way to continue his learning with a focus on mental health. He meets fellow veterans, especially ones that were in the war for much longer than himself.

Constantine’s physical style has his hair slicked back, clean-shaven face, and often can be seen wearing a pin-striped vest underneath a dark gray blazer. When he’s being casual, he’ll wear a simple white, long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up around his elbows and several buttons undone. 

His sexuality is that of a tease, but treads carefully and skillfully with those of the same sex.

Verse: 1940s

WWII is at its height. It shapes the world that Constantine lives in. He has no personal interest in joining a war that doesn’t seem as though it’ll end anytime soon, but he can’t escape its damaging effects that ripple throughout the world. Instead of being used as a doctor, though, he’s the spy that Rupin has had a hand in making him be. Because India is ruled by the British Empire during this period, and America has become one of the strongest members of the Allied forces, this unlikely team is a collaboration of several countries at work. 

Darla Lovette, the best cryptographer of her day, is missed sorely during the time when the Engima machine rules and is practically unbreakable. Constantine uses this connection and mystique to infiltrate the German ranks by feeding their paranoia, making them believe that the machine has already been cracked based on intelligence he was able to gather and manipulate. They’re forced to experiment with another technique that Constantine boldly arranges based on one of his mother’s works that hadn’t quite been finished before her untimely death.

For style, Constantine’s European travels allow him to make use of the trench coats that are popular for the day. Double-breasted in a light gray color, it matches the smoke that drifts from his cigarette that’s often with him. The coat accentuates his height, topped with a dark hat to blend in with the crowd.

Verse: 1980s

New York was a wild explosion of crime and drugs, neither of which suited Constantine’s tastes. Just like in canon, he held a strong interest for psychiatry and medicine in general, but in this time period, technology holds more of his passion. There’s a new revolution forming, and it expands far greater than that of cassette tapes.

Inspired by his mother’s profession, he finds himself gravitated towards programming. He moves from NYC to San Francisco and begins a successful career from the ground floor. In due time, he’s able to create his own tech company, focusing on portable devices instead of the clunky monsters that he envisions will become dinosaurs in another decade or so. His schooling in psychology is paving the way to see the trend that everyone’s patience is ticking down, making them constantly on the move and demanding instant gratification. 

In spite of the work ethic, though, he still sees how Apple is building a brand, and that’s exactly what he needs to bank on to become successful. The brand being 90% him, just as it was with Steve Jobs for Apple, he’s a frequent member of the most popular night clubs. His personal life sees various men in what would be scandalous positions; however, Constantine rarely actually has sex with them and more or less just finds a way to dominate them instead.
