So instead of writing the essay this is exactly what I'm talking about. This shit reduces your capacity for empathy. If you can't understand why people are hurt by a simple joke, nay, think that's the whole point... How the hell are you supposed to feel for someone when they come to you complaining of ACTUAL oppression? It's the foot in the door phenomenon. A little oppression isn't too bad, cuz it's funny, right? It hardens your heart against others

Somebody actually wrote this essay already. It's a Twitter thread about how the alt right recruits teenage boys by getting them to post slightly offensive memes... And then when they get called out and don't understand why the alt right channels their anger at feminists and women and people of color and liberals. According to this thread, boys are being "set up"

However it seems they’re disregarding the fact that unlike a centralized bureaucracy the common accelerationist isn’t one org, it’s multiple groups in multiple locations. There is no formal hierarchy. Thus, it would be pretty stupid if anyone here was actually considering going to a meme 2nd protest in DC just to get mowed down/arrested. 

The smart ones are those who exploit the divided attention and the incapability of this Jewish government to protect more than one place and more than a few persons. A popular guerrilla onslaught is a nightmare for them, why do you think they’ve been so hellbent on banning guns and body armor? 

These lizards have addresses outside DC, all over the country, hell maybe nearby in your fly-over state. Is the military going to deploy in mass everywhere?

he said “so they fixed it, right? how did they fix it in the game?” and i told him the truth: they didn’t. they couldn’t control it. they had to reset the servers and roll them back to the time before the ZG encounter.

a CNN article recently referenced another “viral” event in world of warcraft: leeroy jenkins facepulling as a metaphor for the expedited reopening of businesses. what it fails to mention however is how the video ends. everyone who charges in with leeroy dies. he wipes the raid.

Those with healing magic would go into infected areas to see if they could save the infected or at least keep them alive through the disease. Those that couldn’t do that tried to warn players before they entered infected areas. NPC could be infected and have “no symptoms”; they could be asymptomatic carriers and pass it to nearby players.

The best part though was by the time Blizzard had finally come out and said “if you are infected, try to quarantine yourself so you don’t spread it!!” the player base was ALREADY DOING SO. The players had recognized the problem and worked together in myriad ways to fix it.

They also had negative reactions as well, another reason this was such a good example of a real outbreak. They had a couple people report healers or alchemists who were claiming to sell cures/treatments to the disease that ultimately would do nothing. They had a group of players that would hide in the mountains near cities and just pass the disease back and forth between themselves and then raid cities to infect them all over again. They had higher level players start rebelling on the servers. Saying it was an overreaction and if you get it you’ll just die and you can come back and be fine, etc. Since they could get the disease and survive, ie it didn’t do enough damage to them since they were higher level, they felt it unnecessary to care about whether they got it or not. They complained about not getting to play like normal just because this plague could kill lower level players.

ALL of these reactions, good and bad, were real enough to what we assumed a real life epidemic would play out that people started to use it as a model. And now look, we have proof that it was accurate.

However, what we needed to learn from it was primarily that it wasn’t reversible. The bad reactions and lack of care from the few players that weren’t cooperating made it impossible in the end to contain. The only reason it was fixed at all is the game had to reverse time, literally just delete their entire game log a few weeks and time travel weeks into the past to before the plague even began.

Think about that.

The reason no one believed it was a valid model is that it was a video game and thus the consequences weren’t permanent. “No one would act like that in real life.” But look at how we are handling this outbreak. Is it not eerily similar?

If you actually read the CNN article, you’ll see how landlords running out of money is also negatively affecting tenants, as it’s hurting their ability to maintain properties and provide housing generally. 

The system is in need of major reform but needlessly villainizing all landlords/housing providers in the short term is not going to do anything to help the massive housing shortage that exists in the U.S. 

Landlords are not "housing providers"

In urban centers, podunk towns, and everywhere in between they actively snatch up otherwise affordable real estate in order to maintain a stranglehold on renters through inflation and artificial scarcity.

Landlords and rental associations actively lobby against affordable housing and renting control initiatives.

Landlords do not contribute to the economy or the communities they hold property in, they actively parisitize them.

They garner income through the simple act of owning a building, and writ large, will fight tenants tooth and nail to wriggle out of responsibility for maintenance and repairs on the properties they hold, because those responsibilities cut into their bottom line.

And when we get into the further egregious mess of corporate landlords and property holders, they aren't even incentivized to prevent evictions to ensure a stable rental income, because recent bailout measures have resulted in lucrative schemes for corp. landlords through which they make MORE money by evicting tenants, getting insurance bailouts, and generating high eviction rates/ tenant turnover to generate as much as possible in quarterly profits

Landlords at all levels, from your corporate grave tillers to your "neighborly small-town" property renters are parasites who extract wealth from their tenants as a further reward for owning properties.

This is the worst thing. The worst. Because they all know climate change is real and dangerous, but instead of doing something about it and save lives and prevent an ecocide, they’re making money off it. They’re churning out fake studies showing that coal is great and they’re using their media to brainwash morons into hating the green movement and they’re moving like sharks on anyone trying to do anything good, and meanwhile they fucking know we’re right and they’re fucking getting rich because of it. 

JUSTICE FOR CASEY GOODSON

On December 4th, 2020, Casey Christian Goodson Jr. (23 years old) was shot three times in the back and murdered by a Sheriff’s Deputy as he was entering his home in Columbus, Ohio. Goodson’s family stated that he was returning home from a dentist appointment, holding a Subway sandwich, his face mask, and his keys, when he was shot.

Two days later, the Columbus Police Department made a statement alleging that James Meade, the deputy responsible for Goodson’s death, saw a man believed to be Goodson with a gun while driving. Meade then approached Goodson after he exited his car and walked home, where he was shot.

Hours after the shooting, the US Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, Peter Tobin, confirmed that Goodson was not the fugitive they were searching for. However, Tobin also added that he believed that the shooting was justified, claiming that Goodson was shot after he refused to drop his “weapon.”

Yet another Black man murdered by the police.

DEMAND JUSTICE.

Your daily reminder that Black Lives Still Fucking Matter. Casey Christian Goodson Jr. was mudered by police on December 4th and no one is talking about it. He was shot three times in the back entering his own home. The police are not going to get any better under Joe Biden, in fact, they will continue to get worse because there will be less media scrutiny. There is little to no media coverage of this story because of that very reason. We have to keep these stories in the public eye and continue to fight to defund the police just as hard in 2021.
