Well, maybe you donât have to go down right away. You take a moment to look around your room.
Your bed stands out the most, being an old piece of human furniture your dad brought in once you moved out of his house. You didnât get to keep most of your other things when you moved, but thatâs okay. You wonât need human stuff while youâre training to become a powerful gem leader. Besides, you have a lot of new things, now!
Along with your human clothes, you have a lot of gem uniforms to wear. They all look the same, but thatâs why theyâre called uniforms. Theyâre all hanging on a rack next to your bed. Your human clothes are kept in a box, since you donât wear them as often.
Then you have a shelf with all your books. All nonfiction, and all very advanced. Youâre proud of that. Most human kids your age wouldnât be reading physics textbooks, but youâre not a human kid! You also donât really understand most of what you read, but thatâs okay, youâre working on it.
Your holocomp is sitting in a corner, a tall, electronic device with its projector turned off since you arenât using it. Back before the war, it could connect to the informational database of all of gemkind, but now it only connects to the shipâs database. Itâll still take you, like, ten years to read it all. Okay, maybe youâre exaggerating, but itâs a lot. Sometimes you wonder why you even need the textbooks.
The green walls are bare. Youâve tried taping pictures and stuff to them, but the tape didnât stick very well, and then you got yelled at, so you didnât do it again.
Other than that, you donât have any toys or anything. You used to, but that was all frivolous human stuff. You didnât need it, not really.
Downstairs, you can hear a voice calling you. âConnie! Itâs time to come down!â
