✨️Some initial thoughts under the cut✨️

Singularity: this is a pleasant surprise. Ominous piano chords and synth strings, but there’s also a neat electro beat that adds some up-tempo energy. It’s quite a departure style-wise, but I dig it. I’ve been listening to a lot of trance, techno and house DJ mixes on Youtube lately to keep me motivated while at work, and it reminds me a little of those.

Alive: Wow, such range! It’s been discussed quite a lot in recent years, but this is a reminder of Hikaru’s strengths in rock-style songs and how she is pretty much a contralto now. Her expressiveness is still there, but she’s got so much power in her lower registers! I’m not a huge fan of singers using vibrato, but in this context it works. The song itself doesn’t stand out much, but it’s a great showcase for her vocal skills.

COLD SIGNAL: Ok, what genre *is* this? Electro rock? Cyber pop? Both? Neither? It’s one of those neat examples where it’s hard to tell where the synths end and the guitars begin, and the “breakdown” section has a nice industrial vibe to it. I can imagine this being a radio-friendly single. The glitching and processing to the vocals are I think a conscious decision rather than covering up for weaknesses in her performance (it’s common in Perfume songs too btw, where it's used in a similar way) and really heighten the “futuristic” aesthetic.

Let Me Out: What a dramatic intro! As with a lot of tracks on here, the drums are much more forceful and heavy than what we’re used to hearing from her back catalogue, even her solo stuff. Her vocals sound a little different here though...maybe she’s trying to recreate the “brighter” tone that she sang in during her early career? I’m not sure how to feel about that, although her performance and the song as a whole are a highlight of the album.

SNECK: Wow, another bold intro! These songs remind me a little of the now-retired artist MELL, who did a few anime theme songs during the late 2000s/early 2010s. Stylistically, this is the only artist I’ve heard who sounds similar*. The chorus absolutely soars, and like many songs on this album, I’d really like to see how much energy she puts into it during a live show.

Acknowledge: I guess that this is as close as the album gets to a slower ballad-type song. The guitar hook is pretty great, but I wonder whether it started out as a more “mellow” track, but the arrangement was...electro-fied? (yeah, I just made that word up) to make it a better fit alongside the other songs on the album? I’m still undecided about whether I really like it or whether it’s out-of-place here. If nothing else, it’s a refreshing change of pace that stops things becoming samey or monotonous.

Grayscale: Hikaru is METAL AF, official XD I don’t think that this is a standout track, but I can’t help but admire its energy. She’s using her lower registers to great effect here alongside the grinding fuzzy guitar riffs, and even throws in a falsetto note or two in the choruses. Another one that I’d really like to hear at a live show.

Fragments: this is a really strong way to end the album. Her “atmospheric” harmony vocals in the intro are great, and she seems to be using the full range of her natural voice throughout. It’s really cool how it starts of slow but picks up towards the end, pauses to let her give one final wail into the abyss, then the percussion and synths sign off.

Final thoughts

This really is a bold step, isn’t it? I know that there are few rock and electronic elements in Kalafina’s discography (Kajiura is a fan of contemporary artists as well as classical composers, after all) but they were often the exception rather than the rule. I feel like the fans who were so impressed by Hikaru taking the lead role in tracks like Magia and Destination Unknown back in the day will find a lot to enjoy here. It is quite a departure though, so I can understand why some people may not be as on board with it as I am.

While it’s not necessarily to everyone’s taste, it’s very competently done. There seem to have been several songwriters involved, but I wonder whether someone like HaKA took on a supervisory role in the conceptual side of the album’s production. In terms of style and, uh, “vibe”, it’s pretty cohesive and all the tracks work well when presented together.

What’s also noteworthy is that Hikaru wrote all of the lyrics herself, which makes me so proud of her. I did a quick Google Translate of what’s printed in the booklet, and it all revolves around a general theme of personal freedom/agency and connection/communication with other people. It’s an interesting push-pull thing, which matches how she often comes across on social media. I’d say that it feels like an authentic artistic expression on her part, and the hard-edged digital rock-orientated arrangements fit the aesthetic.

Overall, it’s an impressive effort. Quite a lot of her solo stuff has left me feeling a little underwhelmed, but this is really solid. Although I like some tracks more than others, I wouldn’t say any of them are weak or out-of-place and her vocals are particularly strong. I hope that it does well in terms of sales and exposure, because it’s possibly her most impressive solo effort yet. The fact that the physical copies sold out quickly is a good sign. Well done Hikaru!

『KEIKO LIVE in the DARK -2026 planetarium- K026〜K027』

Tickets for "KEIKO LIVE in the DARK -2026 planetarium- K024〜K025," held today on July 10th, 2026, sold out immediately upon general release. In response to the many requests from fans who were unable to secure tickets, an encore performance, "KEIKO LIVE in the DARK -2026 planetarium- K026〜K027," has been scheduled for September 8th, 2026.

As the event title suggests, this live will be a unique performance in which the audience can enjoy live music in complete darkness while watching a planetarium projection. Keiko will once again be accompanied by her guitarist Yas Nakajima as well as keyboardist Hirotaka Sakurada to allow for a very simple arrangement that will highlight Keiko’s singing and the beautiful starry sky. ※Please take into account that the venue is very dark so there will be many instances in which the audience will not be able to see the stage/artist. ※This live will be an encore performance of the show held in July. There are no plans to change the setlist or staging.

This month's talk theme was, "Tell me what you collect, or have collected!" ♪ I received so many messages from everyone! Thank you everyone for sharing your favourite things! 🥺✨There was a wide variety, from classic collection items to things I'd never heard of, I was incredibly fascinated! What I realised is that collecting requires patience. 😳Little by little, over time, occasionally looking at what you've collected, cherishing and waiting for the next time you'll encounter a new item for your collection…I feel that enjoying that time is the true joy of collecting. 😊

I tend to be extreme; in the past, I used to be obsessed with wanting to complete a collection all at once *laughs* But now I understand everyone's feelings better and appreciate the joy of working towards a goal little by little! I think it's probably since I started growing plants 🤔As my collection gradually grows, I'm deeply moved and touched by the realisation that I am actually nurturing so many plant babies…😂Those moments are super precious! ♡

Thank you to everyone who submitted entries! By the way, this month's "Wakana's Leaves 🌱" corner features my agave, nicknamed "Mama Agave"! (This is a photo of Mama Agave) In my opinion, she's absolutely massive 😂I recently moved her around a bit so now she looks even bigger 🌴Her leaves are a truly beautiful green…😍They are so glossy ✨The main reason for the name "Mama Agave" is that I now have another agave at home, ↓It's so small and cute ♡ The other reason for calling her "Mama Agave" is the fact that she has grown so much so her name also carries a Mother Earth-like meaning 😂

Also, look at that "thorn at the tip" I was talking about!! Isn't it a really big thorn?? It would hurt if that pricked a human, right?? It's super sharp!! So, I always cut off just the tip. After researching, it seems the reason for this thorny shape is a form of "self-defense" to protect itself from herbivores and other animals that live in arid regions. Fun fact, in the past, humans have used this plant as a sort of everyday tool due to its sharpness! 😳They really can be used as needles… that's amazing! (°_°)🪡 Mother Agave has grown tremendously since coming to my home (about 9 years ago), and she's still growing! 🌴If she reaches the ceiling, I'll have to rethink where to put her! 😅

Now, regarding "Wakana's Talk Garden," I'll be taking a break next month. 🌛✨Next month will be dedicated to FC magazine submissions again, so I'd love for everyone to participate in the member-only project! ＼(^o^)／

Since I have a live performance at Meguro Blues Alley Japan on August 5th, I'd love for everyone to share their impressions of the show so I'll be slightly adjusting the deadline for submissions and broadcast date for the upcoming podcast episode! FC Magazine Member Only Topic‼︎〜Submissions for Summer Moments & Kiki & Cats〜

I went to see 'Kiki's Delivery Service IMAX' on its opening day the other day!! ＼＼\\٩( 'ω' )و //／／ (Sorry, I was so happy and excited that I took way too many pictures, so please take a look.) The pamphlet is a 2022 reprint, but the content is the same as the 1989 version! Just little old me showing off my pamphlet *laughs* I finally got a poster at the theater, something I couldn't do with 'Princess Mononoke'!! It really is a wonderful film...😭✨ At the beginning, when Kiki sets off on her journey, her neighbours come to see her off, and her friends cheer her on. I cried again at the scene where they cheer her on, "Go go Kiki!! Go go Kiki!!" 😂 After this, Kiki experiences many things, meets many people, and learns about emotions and parts of herself she never knew before, but it makes you realise how much she was loved and watched over by so many people throughout her life. Because she grew up in such a loving environment, Kiki was surprised and hurt by her first experience of city life, and faced many hardships. But I think Kiki, who lives by the motto "Always remember to smile," is truly such a wonderful character. Until now, Kiki had taken love for granted. She could fly without thinking, and I think she had always clearly expressed her will. But when she started comparing herself to others, when she lost confidence in herself, she didn't know how to fly anymore. I just couldn't watch this scene without crying...😭😭 Seeing her anxiety about herself, her jealousy of Tombo, and all sorts of emotions all jumbled together...😭 But what really stood out to me this time was Tombo's line. "It might not be fun for you, but I think it would be putting your talents to work. That's wonderful" How much Kiki was saved by those words...😢 Tombo, you're such a good person! (But I also enjoyed mentally replacing their conversation with that of Kid and Conan 😂) Of course, I also loved Ursula's "special scene." When Kiki confides in Ursula about not being able to fly anymore, Ursula says, "Sometimes I'm unable to paint a thing." Kiki asks, "But then what? What happens??" "Maybe you should just take a break.." When Ursula answers that, I just burst into tears 😭 "Take long walks. Look at the scenery. Doze off at noon. Don't even think about flying. And then, pretty soon, you'll be flying again.." Ugh, Ursula, please be my friend 😭 Sorry, this got long *laughs*

Anyway, I cried from beginning to end 😢 My Ghibli-loving friend who went to see it with me was also crying the whole time 😂 (By the way, all the photos were taken after the movie! My eyes were all swollen!!) I want to see it again while it's still showing! I want everyone to see it!

The other day, my manager, Sato-san, took this photo for me after work 📸 A look of relief is on my face after finishing a job 😚 (After this, the fast food restaurant closed much earlier than usual for some reason, and we were kicked out.)

A few days ago, I went back to Fukuoka for the first time in a while 🥳🎉 Fukuoka Airport! Hakata Station! This time, it was a trip for personal reasons, but also for a fan club magazine shoot, so I had a really packed schedule 😂 The number one mistake people from outside the prefecture often make is calling it "Fukuoka Station." It's "Hakata Station," right? ☺️ The second most common mistake is calling it "Hakata Airport." It's "Fukuoka Airport," right? ☺️ (Side note: My manager Sugawa-san flew to Fukuoka with me, she still can't tell the difference between Hakata Station and Tenjin.) This time, I finally got something I've wanted for a long time!! A Goshuincho (a stamp book)!! Everyone in the podcast submissions always talks about Goshuincho, so I've become very interested in them recently. Of course, I knew about the existence of Goshuincho, but I didn't know how to get the stamps, or where to get them... I was ignorant! 💦 This time, I went to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine for the first time in a while, and I found this stylish Goshuincho at BEAMS! Can you see it? It says "DAZAIFU" on it ✏️ I thought the bold red was cool, so I bought it. I went with a friend's family, and we all wandered around looking for the stamp area (none of us had ever owned a goshuincho before), but we finally got our goshuin stamps...!! They placed them so carefully, one by one...🥹 I was so moved 😂✨ More details will be in the newsletter~🌿

Photos from Fukuoka 📸 I went to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine with my best friend from elementary school (Ayu-chan) and her family, and we stopped at a sweet potato snack shop along the way! ! 🍠🍠🍠 She said, "It's super delicious! You should buy some as a souvenir from Fukuoka!", so I happily went shopping♪ I even got to sample some freshly made ones, and they were absolutely delicious! I bought a lot! ...But after I bought them, I realized something when looking at the package. They're a specialty of Kochi Prefecture!🤣🤣 Ayu-chan?? 😂 They have nothing to do with Fukuoka, do they? 😂 Well, they're delicious, so it's not a problem at all! ! 😂 We all thought they were a Fukuoka specialty, so I guess it's fine to just call them a Fukuoka specialty! ＼＼\\٩( 'ω' )و //／／ (Great story, isn't it?😂)

When I went to Fukuoka the other day, I packed my suitcase full of things that I absolutely couldn't compromise on!! For me, first of all, I always bring my favourite pajamas (*^^*) Also, since I always grind my own coffee beans in the morning, I grind enough for the number of days I'm traveling and put it in small Ziploc bags ☕ (When it's too much trouble or I don't have time, I bring drip coffee from my favourite place for the number of days I'm traveling) And the things that take up the most space in my suitcase are clothes and skincare products! When it comes to clothes, if I'm also working, I bring enough for the number of days plus a little extra 👘👚 For skincare, I always portion out my usual products, of course, but I also bring extra facial masks, and of course, my favorite YA-MAN beauty device!😆 I also pack my usual shampoo and conditioner! (I use a lot for my long hair, so it's heavy!) Thank You, ”my music box”‼︎〜Let's Meet on Friday♡〜

Last Saturday on the 23rd, I held my concert, "Wakana Live 2026 ~my music box~"!! ＼＼\٩( 'ω' )و //／／

Today, I'd like to look back on the event with lots of photos taken by photographer Okawa-san📸! 🥳🎉We had lots of fun during the member introductions" were fun too!

During the 2nd Stage, I accidentally addressed my guitarist Fukuhara Reon by his father's name (Fukuhara Masanobu)…!! 😂) Reon-kun was kind enough to excuse my little mistake and told me that the mix-up was understandable😂

Next, I was very interested in the percussion instruments of Yamashita Asuka-chan!! Here she introduces her favourite instrument ♪ And here we have the instrument that created those lovely sounds of water used for the Mizu no Akashi performance during the 2nd stage. It was a basin filled with water, and she was using this round, coconut-like, helmet-like thingy (sorry, can't remember what it was called) to scoop up the water and make the sound…! ! 😆

And then there's our bandmaster, Hori Kuraaki! Kuraaki is always so reliable! He has a kind of teacher-like feel to him. He's very good at talking and explaining things. And he is super tough, he was actually working in Korea until the day before!

For the encore, I wore a denim dress~♡

Finally, I was able to introduce everyone to my manipulator, Oliver! He's also a martial artist, so it's no wonder he looks strong…!! 😂 Everyone's smiles after the show were so lovely, it's one of my favourite photos! 🥰

Last Day of May‼︎〜Live Stream & Sharks & Collections〜

Last Friday, I held an exclusive live stream event for all Botanical Land members, '🦈Premium After "Shark" Event🦈 ~More!! My Music Box~'!! ＼＼\\٩( 'ω' )و //／／ There were more shark plushies than usual 🦈🦈🦈🦈 So fluffy 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈The Sumikko Gurashi shark series is super cute even from behind. So chubby.

Here's a look at the game we played. There is actually another game aside from the one we played during the stream, and apparently playing both makes it even more difficult!! (I've fallen in love with this game 🌿)

The event included behind-the-scenes stories from the live shows, conversations with guests, game segments, and a lot more… a full two-hour-plus event! All right, these are too precious not to share. Keiko has been adding a ton of super cute photos to her fan club gallery. “Ghibli wo Utau” Concert Vol.#2 Osaka Live

To commemorate the release of the second tribute album, “Ghibli wo Utau/Singing Ghibli Vol.#2,” two special concerts are held in Tokyo as well as Osaka. By examining those feelings, I can discover a side of myself I never knew existed. I'm always determined to search for those new aspects of my myself in my music. Yesterday, we appeared as Kalafina on the YouTube live broadcast 「Takebe Satoshi Talks About 'Ghibli wo Utau Vol.#2'」!! 🥳🎉🎉We had the chance to chat with the participating artists about the album which was released on the 25th.♫ It seems like there were some issues with the video freezing, but I hope everyone was still able to watch it properly…😳💦Once a livestream starts, time really flies by, but it was a fun experience, packed with the performers' passion for the songs and their excitement for the concert.😆Here's a photo of Takebe-san and Kalafina🐣And here I am trying to balance the acrylic stand on my forehead again. Today is the day of Kalafina’s final anniversary concert! I am so sad this mini tour is almost over. I wonder what changes they will make to the setlist.

Side note: This time, they had us queue up inside the venue🥵I put on extra layers so I wouldn’t freeze like last time but it was a total waste😅Oh well🤷‍♀️
