“You would think loneliness would be the wallflower sitting in the corner, or the girl walking to class alone. The boy who never left his house on the weekends, watching YouTube video after YouTube video. I thought that was loneliness as well; until It hit me. Loneliness isn’t always being alone. Loneliness is being with a group of people, and you feel like you don’t belong. It’s when everyone’s talking, laughing, gossiping; and your silently standing there. It’s where your headphones are in, head down, and people don’t care enough to include you in the conversation or ask if you want to join. Loneliness is having so much you want to tell someone, and having no one to tell. It’s when you want to cry your heart out to your best friend, but you don’t have one. It’s when your laying in your bed at 3 am, eyes glued to the celling, thoughts running through your head. When the only thing that comforts you is the dim bathroom light in the hallway and the blanket covering your body. When the tears you cry aren’t stained on someone’s shoulder or fixed with a joke or laugh, it’s your pillows soaking up your sadness. The silent sound of the night, and the clock ticking that cover your sobs. That’s loneliness. - C.s.”
