it's a meeting of gay witches for abortion

i work with a lot of people who are not politicians, but as a group, they’re the most politically-informed people i’ve ever known. some of them have reported on politics for over 30 or 40 years. not a single one was a trump supporter. the people actually listening to the candidates, reporting on them, learning their policies to write explainers on them. the people who’ve been doing that same thing for years and years. yet a unique horror at seeing trump surge in the polls.

my team is basically the newsroom intermediary for all the live feeds, so we’ve listened to both candidates give speeches for countless hours. we listen to all the state department briefings, the white house briefings, every speech the president or VP or secretary of state or high-level government officials make in public. trump lies, he’s uninformed, and he talks incessantly about how he’s going to bring the country together because it’s so divided when he and his supporters are the ones with the knife.

i have a certain amount of privileges in my life. i’m middle class, i’m cis, i'm able-bodied, i’m a citizen. i’m in a relationship with a man so i can hold his hand in public and have a marriage be recognized. but i’m mixed race. i’m bi. i’m a woman. i’m terrified for black and brown citizens, for undocumented and documented immigrants, for women, for gender non-conforming people, for disabled people, for LGBTQIA+ people. i’m terrified for the economy and social programs after his policies wreak havoc on it. i’m terrified for the supreme court appointments he’ll choose—1 existing vacancy, plus potentially 2-3 more depending on the length of his presidency and the health of the remaining members. i’m terrified for a lot of things.

random baking recently - lemon cookies with lemon frosting topped with lemon zest, and chocolate cookies with raspberry frosting topped with freeze-dried raspberries. (feat. roommate’s cute “yum” plate that will clearly feature in all my baking pictures in the future.) 

lemon cookies were from last week, but the chocolate-raspberry cookies are for tomorrow. because i work at a news org, the election is obviously huge news and we’ve got a ton of people working overnight—myself included.
