I hurried to catch up with him as he strode down the hallway.

Back in his room, I sat on Lucifer’s bed as he took off his cape. As he hung it in his closet, his back to me, he spoke “I cannot tell you how much I missed you. I lived millennia before I met you, and yet... now that I have, I can’t imagine living another day without you.”

“You’ve become so sappy since I left. What happened to the powerful, domineering Lucifer I remember?”

He was in front of me so fast it was as if he had teleported. I gulped. “I know what you’re trying to do, Sage. You’re trying to provoke me so I’ll put you in your place. Did you really think it was a good idea to taunt the demon of pride?” He paused, letting the implied threat hang in the air. “Well, it’s not going to work, because I am going to be as sappy as I like with you.”

He sat down next to me on the bed. “Come here, Sage.” He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me into his lap. Once he had me seated comfortably, he kept one arm around me to hold me in place and let the other rest on my knee. I wrapped my arms around his neck.

“That’s better.” He leaned in and brushed his lips against mine. “You want more, don’t you? You’re going to have to wait. I want to hear what you’ve been up to in the human world.”

“There’s not much to tell. The human world really is uneventful compared to the Devildom. This may shock you, but not even one person has tried to kill me since I returned.”

“That’s... good to hear.”

“Mhm. I’m sure you’re thrilled to hear that you don’t have new competition, seeing as ‘tried to kill me at least twice’ seems to be my type. Ah!”

His meme game is unstoppable. You laugh out loud at things he sends you.

He can *always* tell when you’re feeling down and will do anything to cheer you up, from trying to sneak into the demon castle and steal your favorite painting (he made it as far as the royal art gallery; no one is sure how he managed that) to showing up outside your room with a tub of chocolate body paint.

That time he showed up with the body paint, the first thing he did when you let him in was put his arm around you and listened to you talk about what was on your mind for as long as you needed.

He bought you a bright red, designer, leather jacket. Asmo called it “gaudy,” and he pretended not to care, but was relieved when you said you love it. Sometimes you see him staring at you and smiling when you wear it. He insists he’s just admiring the jacket.

He’s a surprisingly gentle kisser.

While he’s always gentle, he loves it when you get rough with him. He denies this.

His secret fantasy: He really is a masochist. Don’t tell his brothers.

He enjoys the way your heart speeds up and your face flushes when he’s near you. Sometimes, he deliberately stands too close to you and finds excuses to touch you or whisper to you so he can see you blush. He only teases you about it sometimes, but he always gets that smug smile.

He has great people skills and he has a posse, all of whom support and follow him not because they fear or worship him, but because they share a genuinely caring friendship. He’s gorgeous. Also, he’s the only one whose talent was actually good; we already know Poppy’s a mediocre dancer, Chloe’s musical wineglass thing was more weird than engaging, Veronica’s IRL makeup tutorial was even weirder, and MC comedy roast *sucked.* Not even one of the jokes was funny. I actually wish she had gone with hog-calling as her talent instead. But even if even one of the other characters had a decent talent, we can still add “talented singer” to the myriad other amazing things about Carter.
