âYeah, well, youâre not the only one who lives here!â His words echo through the hall at the House of Lamentation, soaking the quietness in something sharp before the door to his room slams shut. Levi let out a frustrated growl as he plopped himself down on his gaming chair, grabbing his headset and angrily shoving it over his ears. âStupid⌠theyâre all so stupidâŚâ he mumbled to himself, still seething with the envy that so obviously marks his character.
Asmo and Satan decided to bring over some âfriendsâ, or as he liked to call them, whores. Every once in a while, his two brothers indulged in some type of brotherly competition to see which one of them could go the most rounds with the most succubi. âWhat even is the point of that?!â Levi hissed to no one in particular, picking up his controller. Itâs a nosy and quite honestly, nasty competition to be held within the house, but besides him, no one really seems to care. The twins locked themselves in their room, comfortable with each otherâs presences, Mammon left to go spend money he doesnât have and hit up his friends â which, to Levi, it is a miracle that his brother even has those: friends â, and Lucifer has learned early on that yelling and scolding those two for their sinful indulgences gets him nowhere, which means heâll probably spend the evening and most of the next day at the Demon Lordâs castle doing God knows what with Lord Diavolo. That doesn't mean he won't be back tomorrow with a lot of yelling and punishments. Another noise Levi will have to block out.
And Levi?
Levi is once again alone in his room, trying to drown out the noises that are bound to start any second now by playing some video game or watching something heâs already watched a thousand times. Itâs days like these where he notices two things: one, heâs the least fun and least spontaneous brother and two, no one wants him. The last thought always hurts the most. His brothers seem to have it all: the status, the life. Only he is bound to be locked up in his room, drowning in self pity and envy that consumes him whole.
âJust you and me again, HenryâŚâ Henry is his best friend, but he has to be realistic and knows that heâs only a goldfish and if Henry could talk back to him, heâd probably also tell Levi to suck it up and shut up. A pang of sadness courses through him at that fact. âItâs always me being left outâŚâ he mumbles once more as his fingers fly across the controller. The game heâs currently playing is a shooter game. Not the best way to get wild emotions under control, but at least it gives both his mind and hands something to do before he completely loses his cool. Satanâs smug face and taunting words are still ringing in his ears: âif you werenât so awkward, we might ask you to join. At this rate, our company would run for the hills before they willingly went down on you.â A shot straight to his heart. He knows he isnât anyoneâs most desired.
The movements of his fingers slowed, his eyes unfocused on the screen now as envy turned to pure sadness. His heart ached and longed for a connection to someone. It didnât even have to be romantic, he just wanted someone who would hang out with him, who would accept him and whom he could have fun with. He wanted a friend, someone who he can talk to and get a reply from. A shaky breath escapes his lips as he sits there. The screen is reading âgame over, try againâ now and the moment Levi sees it, he throws the controller against his wall with a scream, âargh!â Why isnât he enough?!
Tears are forming in his eyes and he angrily rubs his hands into the orange globes, trying to get rid of the tears. He knows itâs stupid to cry and get angry. Itâs even stupider to let his Avatar take control like that, but he canât help but feel envious of his brothersâ seemingly perfect lives with each other and their friends. Why canât he have that?
The sudden opening of his bedroom door, which he catches out of the corner of his eye, makes him stiffen up and spin around in his chair. Youâre standing there in the doorway, looking confused and mildly worried. âI heard something crash and I wanted to see if everything was alright?â Your worry carried itself through the sentence and hit Levi like another slap in the face. Stupid humans, always poking their noses in things they donât belong. Still, he could see that your worry was genuine and instead of lashing out like he probably wouldâve, he just tells you once: nice and firm.
âGet out, (Y/N). Iâm not in the mood.â His words come out harsher than he means them to, but he canât help it. The last thing he needs is for you to notice the tears welling up in his eyes again. Instead of listening, though, you move into his room, into his space, and close the door behind you. âAre you okay?â Your voice was so soft, so gentle, so caring, and it hit him like a fucking train. Heâs biting his tongue, willing for the tears to stay at bay. After all, how can he possibly explain to you how fucking lonely he feels? Youâre one of those people who have found friendship within the family almost immediately and you even have friends at RAD, which no one thought would be possible considering your non-demonic self. Wetness rolls down his cheeks and Levi immediately brings up a hand to wipe it away. âPlease goâŚâ he thinks to himself, not wanting you to see him like this.
âLeviâŚ?â You call out again, tentatively this time as you slowly step closer to him. Due to him sitting in his chair, youâre practically looming over him, your own eyes boring into his orange ones and in this moment, Levi realises how completely bare he looks to you. The tears are falling now as he takes in a shaky breath, every muscle in his body tense. His demon form has slipped out and his tail has curled itself around him in a form of comfort and protection; the heat and mild sliminess from his scales is seeping into his exposed skin. God, how pathetic he must look right now.
âWhy am I not enough, (Y/N)?â The words are choked out and for a moment, fear courses through his veins. Has he said too much, will you laugh at him now, too? Your eyes soften and you could feel your heart break at the sight in front of you. The urge to reach out and wrap him in your arms is suddenly so strong, but you fight against it. âWhat do you mean? Of course you are enough.â Levi scoffs. Such a standard answer. He doesnât even know why he said anything, probably because you were looking at him like a hurt animal. âHey⌠talk to me, whatâs going on?â You encourage softly, glancing around the room until your eyes land on the controller he threw. Itâs broken, just like Levi is. The pieces lay on the floor and will never fit together again, or at least not in the way they did before.
âI-IâŚâ he starts, but quickly brings up one of his hands to his mouth to muffle the sobbing that suddenly seems to overtake. Meanwhile, you lean down and pick up the broken controller, collecting the pieces with such care that Levi wonders for a moment if youâd pick him up like that as well; if you could flick him back together. If, once your gaze would meet his broken one, you would look at him with genuine care and sincerity and not like the burden he usually feels like he is. Your eyes meet his in the next moment, he knew they would, but he couldnât see them clearly with the tears blocking his vision. He heard you set the broken controller pieces on his desk before feeling your arms around him in the moment after.
His whole body stiffened, muscles tightening as your warmth enveloped him. His first instinct is to fight it, to push you off and away just like he always does, but your grip is so firm and unwavering that he allows it, at least, thatâs what he tells himself. Truth is, heâs leaning in before he even fully realizes what heâs doing. âOh, LeviâŚâ you mumble into his hair and he breaks down completely. He feels weak, pathetic and absolutely out of his element as he shakes against your frame, face buried in your chest. His tail, seemingly having a mind of its own, unwraps itself from him and instead wraps around the both of you, pushing you further against him. Somewhere in the back of his mind, heâs calling himself gross for touching you like this, without permission nonetheless, but he also canât seem to let go.
âIâve never been enough, (Y/N).â He whispers at some point, barely audible for anyone to pick up on but of course you would. You have some type of super human ears, Levi decides, but then again⌠youâre just a super human overall. A frown forms on your face as you hold him, not minding the tail that has also wrapped around you. Instead, you let your hands trace gentle patterns on his back, waiting to see if he may say anything else but the only thing you hear is the sound of little sobs and sniffles against your chest. âLevi⌠of course you are enough, what makes you think otherwise?â Your question makes Levi pause for a moment and pull out of your chest, a soft glare on his face. How can you ask that when heâs literally crying into your chest right now? Soaking your shirt with his tears? Do you not see the pathetic lump sitting in front of you? âI am the outsider of this family, (Y/N). Beel has Belphie, Mammon hasâŚ. whatever he has, heâs never here anyway, Lucifer goes to Lord Diavolo any chance he gets and Satan and Asmo⌠they always team up together. I mean listen to them!â The last words are almost shouted, but the moment it quiets down, the two of you can make out the moans and grunts happening all over the house, along with the high pitched screams of pleasure from who knows whom. A groan of frustration escapes you, but before you can say anything, Levi is adding another line.
âNone of my brothers want to hang out with me. They never did. I was always the outlier, the otaku that never fit into their normie lives.â Disgust is laced in his voice, his face distorting for a moment before he continues, âand they made sure to make me feel that way. I know they care for me in their own way, but they make sure to beat me down any chance they get.â
âEspecially SatanâŚâ Levi adds in his mind, but no matter how much he hates being beaten down, heâd never speak a name out loud. As much as he hates being the punchline, the last thing he wants is for you to start a fight with Satan and get hurt. Levi has no doubt you can hold your own, but youâre nothing compared to a Satan who loses his cool. âI get it. Iâm gross and antisocial and Iâm not good in social situations, butâŚâ
âBut nothing, Levi. So what: you donât have a twin that you share thoughts with. Youâre not a social butterfly who has probably been inside every demon down here. Youâre not best friends with the Demon Lord or run into every casino in hell, losing money, but making tons of fake friends with strangers⌠but so the fuck what?â You ask, looking down at Levi, your hands resting gently on his shoulders. âLevi, youâre so much more than what you give yourself credit for. Youâre smart, especially tech smart; youâre lovable, youâre funny and youâre the person I come to when I just want to be at ease. You never force me to talk or share anything that I donât want to share. Youâre easy going and I love sitting with you in silence while some anime plays out. I also love getting sucked into random video games with you, even when it happens unwillingly and Iâm a little mad each time.â You smile softly, squeezing his shoulder.
âYouâre way more than you give yourself credit for and between you and I? Youâre my favorite brother. Thereâs no place Iâd rather be than with you⌠I actually came here to ask if you wanted to continue our little One Piece marathon?â You look down at him expectantly, but all you find are big, orange eyes staring up at you. You think heâs smart? lovable? funny? Levi is pretty sure he stopped breathing, which also stopped the tears. His tail, however, is once again thinking on its own and conveying Leviâs emotions a little better than his words ever could, because it is tightening around the two of you again. âYou⌠you really think so?â Levi knows you think so, he can find no deception or deceit in your eyes, but he needs you to say it one more time⌠or maybe a few more times.
Your smile widens and you pull him into another hug before placing a soft kiss on his head, breathing in his comforting scent. âI really do think so. Youâre my fave, Levi.â His heart is racing when he hears those words again and although you canât see it, you can feel the bright smile forming on his lips against your chest as he squeezes tightly. One person. One very, very important person is all it took for him to feel a little bit better. One person he has never had but is now standing in front of him and telling him heâs their favorite. His heart is soaring now and new tears are forming due to completely different reasons.
âThank you, (Y/N).â He whispers. Theyâre simple words, but the way he says them tells you everything you need to know.
