I was browsing the nintendo store and was kind of saddened to see that they are dividing their gift ideas by gender.
So out of curiosity I decided to see what they were marketing to me, as a woman. Is it just going to be cutesy games like nintendogs or something?
The signs are not good. Is this going to be a âmen play consoles women play handheldsâ stereotype or something? Lets scroll downâŚ
Huh. Well Pokemon is the next big handheld release. So lets see what theyâre marketing to men?
âŚthe same thingâŚ?Â
âŚliterally the exact same thing.
They posted the same page twice, and just changed the pronouns in the captions.
Nintendo doesnât care what gender you are.
They just really, really want you to buy Pokemon.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood surely is ironic.
The brilliance that is this series.

âHey⌠that turianâs been standing there for like, an hour.â
âWhat? That guy with the mangled-up face?â
âYeah. He keeps playing the Shepard VI over and over. Mustâve cycled through the whole demo several times by now.â
âHuh. Well, she was a hero. Saved everybody from the Reapers and all.â
âYeah, but⌠I dunno, do you think he knew her?â
âWhat, a turian and a human? Friends? Pff. Would never happen.â
oh my fUCKING GOD PROTO
((Just for you, @fitofpaige <3))
âIâm Commander Shepard, Hero of the Galaxy.â
Fergus tried not to let his eye twitch as he heard the opening for the display model come to life again. Sweet relief appeared on his face when his replacement walked into the store.
âOh thank god anâ sonny Jesus,â He said in lowered tones as the woman approached, âPlease tell me that I can get the hell outta here.â
The woman looked amused, âAw, whatâs wrong? The bottle calling to you a little early today?â
âNah,â He grumbled quietly, âThat turian there has jusâ been goin at it with the Commander Shepard display model.â
Her eyes trailed over toward said turian, taking in his features for a few moments before she shrugged, âWhatâs wrong with that? She was the Hero of the Galaxy, right?â
âHeâs gone through all the dialogue and menus four times, Ellie! Four!â Fergus growled, âAnd Iâve been stuck here behind the desk for it all!â
Ellen glanced back at the turian as she hopped onto the counter and threw her legs over, coming to stand next to the scottish tank. His face on one side was mangledâit looked like some sort of burnâand through the holographic light of the VI, Ellen could notice a few other things; like the lost, broken look in his eyes, and the way he seemed more than helpless as he watched the VI move through its dialogue.
ââŚThink he knew her?â Ellen asked quietly, and hesitated to clock in.
The noise Fergus made in response made Ellen worry that the Turian might glance over and they would have to pretend they werenât gawking at the poor fellow, but the turianâs gaze never left the VIâs face.
âAre you off your rocker?â Fergus snorted again, âA human and a turian? Thatâs rare enough, but she was Commander Shepard.â
Ellen leveled a small glare at her co-worker, âYou know Iâve dated a turian or two, right?â
âWell, when that faze ends, let me know when your ready for a real adventure in bed,â Fergus waggled his eyebrows at her, but groaned when a familiar Iâm Commander ShepardâŚÂ echoed through the store again.
Ellen rolled her eyes, muttering âEven a volus would have a bigger dick than youâŚâ
When Fergus glanced at her, curious and obviously clueless as to what she said, Ellen instead added, âIâll make you a deal; if I can get the turian to leave, you have to take my shift tonight.â
Fergus got a glint in his eye that almost had her rolling her eyesâhe was so predictable, âIf you can get that turian outta here, Iâll take your shift and pay you double your wage.â
âDeal,â She said, walking back around the counter and toward the turian.
It wasnât until she stood next to the VI and waited patiently for the end of the VIâs current dialogue option that Fergus wondered if he just took a bad bet.
This close to the alien, Ellen felt a little confirmation to her earlier assessment. The poor guy didnât even notice her approach him as he listened to Commander Shepard talk in vague details about her past.
Before he could run the next option, Ellen broke in.
âAnything I can help you with?â
At first, she wondered if he even heard her as long moments stretched by, while the turian continued to stare at the Commander Shepard VI; she was going to speak again when he finally answered her.
âNo IâŚâ It seemed a chore to him to pull his eyes away from Shepard to focus on her, âIâm fine.â
âNo offense,â She said quietly, glad that customers were scarce at the moment, âBut you donât seem all that fineâŚsir.â
His eyes moved back to Shepard and a long, low sigh left his mouth.
âGuess its pretty obvious if a bystander can tellâŚâ he almost seemed to say it to himself before he rubbed his eyes and glanced down at his omni-tool.
Before he could say anything, Ellen said, âIâm Ellen; Ellen Baker.â
Having dated turians, she didnât reach out to offer him a handshake; they preferred salutes, or nods, she found. Probably part of their strange military culture she thought.
He hesitated, but finally said, âGarrus Vakarian,â with a polite nod.
âWell, Garrus,â She glanced at the VIâand purposefully not back toward Fergusâas she added, âI have a small wager with my co-worker back there that I can get you out of this store and away from this particular VI. What do you say I take you for a drink? Itâs a win-win; you get a free drink and can come back here later, and I get to show that irritating co-worker of mine that heâs horrible at choosing his bets.â
Garrus seemed a little surprised at her blunt appraisal before he seemed to duck in a little self-conscious embarrassment; maybe he realized how long heâd been in the store, or maybe he wasnât used to such bluntness. Ellen glanced at the VI again and made a small wager with herself that it was the former, not the latter.
âI donât know if alcohol is the best option for me,â Garrus suddenly said, âGot into a little trouble with C-Sec the last time I went to a bar.â
âThen lets find us a little levo-dextro cafe and have a coffee,â She smiled, âYouâll have to give me a direct ânoâ if you want me to leave you alone, handsome.â
That caught Garrus off guard, âI-wellâŚsure.â
Ellen smiled like a cat who caught a mouse and hooked an arm with his.
âSee you tomorrow, Fergus!â She called back, waving without looking at him as she lead Garrus out of the store.
Fergus cursed to himself and crossed his arms as he watched the two of them disappear into the crowds of the citadel.
âOnly bad things to be said âbout a woman who strays from her species,â He shook his head to console himself, buckling down for his second shift.
~*~
âSo you did know the Commander,â Ellen said, wrapping her hands around her coffee, âHard to believe Iâm lucky enough to be on a coffee date with her right-hand man.â
Garrus looked down at his own hot drinkâsomething similar to coffee, if Ellen had to guess, âI more than âknewâ her; she was myâŚwhat do you humans sayâŚgirlfriend?â
Ellen nodded slowly, âYeah; we humans love having that long âtrial periodâ before we settle down with another person. Itâs one of our quirks.â
âTurians usually marry for the Hierarchy, if theyâre from Palavan,â Garrus said, âSo thereâs not a lot of room for a âtrial periodâ.â
She smiled, âI know; I dated a couple of turians. WellâŚdated is a strong term; the one from Palavan was a one-night stand that just sort ofâŚlasted and the other guyâŚhe was a funny one, from one of the colonies.â
âAll the ones from the colonies are funny,â Garrus snorted.
There was a small pause where silence grew for a moment before Ellen broke in.
âIâm sorryâŚfor your loss, I mean,â She said quietly, âI know its probably hard, trying to keep reminding yourself what she did was worth it with her goneâŚâ
Garrus hesitated before his head bowed and he said, almost forcibly, âOf course what Shepard did was worth it; she saved the whole goddamned galaxy and didnât require an ounce of thanks for it. She did it because it was the right thing to do.â
âGod you sound like a turian,â Ellen sighed.
Garrus started, his head shooting up to meet her eyes, âWhat-â
âThatâs why everyone says turians are machines, you guys always bury those feelings about dead comradesâdead anybody for that matterâand talk about something so clinical like âright and wrongâ or âhonorâ. Youâre allowed to mourn her, Garrus; and Iâm not talking about standing in front of her virtual intelligence mod, pretending like its not just a robot.â
Ellen could hear Garrusâs subvocals start to growl and she quickly stood, reached for his wrist and tugged gently, âCâmon, big guy, lets go see if we canât loosen up those gears inside of you.â
Garrus resisted until the nicknameââHey, big guy.â it was like hearing Shepardâs ghostâand then seemed to lose all will as he allowed Ellen to pull him from the table.
~*~
âIâm Garrus Vakarian and this is now my favorite part of the Citidel!â
His own voice echoed out back to him over from the far reaches of the Presidium now that he was standing here without Shepard.
Ellen was sitting in the middle of the small bridge-like structure, trying to ignore how far off the ground they were as she watched Garrusâs back as he took in his surroundings.
It took a few pokes and prods, but Ellen had dragged him from the Silversun StripâShepardâs old apartment was in the process of being turned into a small commemorative museum in her honor, something Garrus was quick to point out âwould have made Shepard roll her eyesââand the Armax Arena all the way to her plaque in the Embassyâs Lobby and now they were in the Presidium, standing in the same place that Shepard and Garrus stood what felt like lifetimes ago.
âSo you thought it was romantic to kick her ass at sniper rifle-ing?â Ellen teased.
âIf you knew Shepard, youâd understand,â Garrus chuckled quietly before moving to sit next to her, resting his elbows on his knees, âShe subverted every expectation I had about humans, relationshipsâŚjustâŚeverything.â
Even over the wind, Ellen could hear the long, low keen that played out in Garrusâs subvocals. It has started up sometime after they read the plaque and observed just how many peopleâhuman and alien alikeâwere paying their respects to Commander Shepard, and she had caught it regularly since then.
âI justâŚâ Garrus spoke quietly, his voice lost in his sadness, ââŚmiss her, terribly.â
His head bowed and if turians could cry, Ellen knew he would probably be doing a lot of that just now.
She reached out and put a hand on his shoulder, squeezing it gently before letting her hand drop, ââŚYeah, I get it; I really do.â
Garrus didnât answer, but there wasnât a need; they just let themselves fall into the silence of the moment, Garrus in mourning, and Ellen offering her silent comfort.
((Hope you liked it~<3))
I⌠I got fanfiction⌠Iâm speechless right now, this is so heartfelt and⌠justÂ
thank you so much, itâs wonderfully sad and also shows a little bit of Garrus going through his period of mourning and at the beginning stages of working through it, admitting how much he misses her and
