“I brought you something. It’s in the pocket of my jacket.” He explained, “Its just a small thing- couldn’t really gift shop while I was there.”

“A gift?” Finn inquired, raising one of his eyebrows slightly. He couldn’t say he was surprised, honestly. Poe was always treating and spoiling him, despite the dozens of times Finn told him there was no reason he should feel the need to do so. “I Kriffing swear, Poe. If you brought back more damn sand from Jakku…”

Poe laughed, remembering the time he'd packed up a handful of sand during a trip to a similar desert planet simply to annoy his boyfriend. The pilot pushed himself up in bed to watch as Finn retrieved the item.

It was a small blue stone, just small enough to fit in his palm, but swirled inside with greens and blues that reminded him of the oceans back of Yavin IV. It was beautiful, much like his Finn, and he deserved all the beautiful things in the universe.

“I like being close to you. Even when I’m sleeping.” He smiled before joining him on the bed, flopping down onto his side and reaching for Finn with grasping hands. “Now, c'mere. Tell me all about what you did while I was gone.”

Finn scooted closer to Poe, becoming more relaxed when he felt the warmth of his body next to him. He had missed this so much. “You mean apart from worrying about you?”

“I’m sorry.” Poe frowned as he stroked the line of Finn’s jaw, “I’ll try to find a way next time. Something to tell you I’m alright.”

“Well, you’re safe now. And you’re here.” He gave a soft, loving smile as he absent mindedly played with Poe’s fingers. “That’s all that matters now.”

“With the guy that is a gift from the gods?”, he asked playfully, leaning closer to Poe, nose almost bumping on his lover’s. All jokes aside, that man right there was the best person he ever had the pleasure of meeting, he had to be insane not to want Poe in his life for the rest of his days. “There is nothing I want more”.

It took a moment before he could respond. Of course none of what he'd said was a joke, but for Varick to respond so seriously made his heart warm. Poe inched closer and gave Varick a long, lingering kiss to show him just how much he loved and cared for him.

"Then I..." He smiled, a blush touching his cheeks. "I'll be waiting for that proposal."

Y'know, matching rings and a big party.” He explained, watching idly as Varick wiped his chest. “But if two people are committed to each other then that’s what really matters. I could live my life with someone and never get married- if that’s what they preferred.”

With that answer, the ginger’s eyes finally left Poe’s torso to set on his face again, and was visibly more relaxed than when the subject was brought up, he even had a small smile tugging on the corners of his lips.

So Poe wanted that. Thank goodness!

Putting the tissues aside, Varick flattened his hands on top of his lover’s chest and from there, they were dragged apart, going along the man’s arms and forearms to reach his hands and lace their fingers together. “Mmhm, I agree. But tell me, Poe… How big of a party are we talking about?”, and his smile grew wider, sweeter, hoping it was enough of a hint that he wanted the same.

“My family always had big parties.” Poe smiled brightly, seeing how Varick’s reaction changed suddenly to something far more promising. “Lots of food and family, and even more dancing. I remember wedding when I was a kid where I was sad to go home at 2 in the morning.”

It was slightly obvious now what Poe’s intentions were- or at least what his interests were. He loved Varick, and he’d loved him for a long time. Whether it was by law or simply by the connection of their hearts, he could see him spending the rest of his life with his beautiful, tranquil man.

“But there’s beauty in intimacy. A small dinner under the stars…lots of flowers and candlelight…”

“Hm… Always the party boy, I see…”, the ginger laughed softly with the little childhood anecdote, easily picturing a tiny Poe bouncing around among the adults on the dance floor. A big portion of his own family was quite fond of big, loud parties, so why not?

“We can leave the intimacy, quiet dinners and romantic atmosphere to the honeymoon”, he tested the use of the plural, just to see how Poe would react. If it was positive… Well, perhaps they could start planning for real.

Poe chuckled softly at Finn’s silence, wondering just what was going on in his head. One of his hands moved to stroke his boyfriend’s cheek before he went to the closet to find clothes to wear in bed.

When he’d found a suitable pair of soft pants and a thin shirt he dropped the towel to change into them. Nudity had never bothered Poe, and he was sure it never would. This was the body the universe gave him and he saw no reason to be ashamed.

“I’m sorry if I doze off on you, pal. It’s been a long day.”

Though the hot water felt like a miracle against his skin and hair he kept it brief. He scrubbed his body and curls twice but with speed as to get back to Finn quickly.

Stepping out of the shower, he tied a towel securely around his waist. It felt so good to be clean and out of his dirty clothes, now if only Finn didn’t like his kriffing beard so much…

“Let me tell you, this is a beautiful sight to come home to.” He hummed at Finn who sat on the bed still.

Finn sat up slightly to get a good look at Poe when he heard his voice. Stars, he was just incredible. Finn’s eyes sparkled with adoration as he gazed up at the man he loved, taking in the absolute beauty that he was radiating. He’d left him completely speechless. Poe was truly breathtaking to him, and though he thought this any way, the fact that he had been gone for so long reminded Finn how absolutely LUCKY he was to have Poe as his.

Poe startled gently at the kiss, his mind had been entirely wrapped up in all the data in front of him. Out of all his duties as commander doing data work was his least favorite. The general had given him a small work station in the control room- nothing more than a few holoscreens and a desk but it was all he needed.

“Hey there. What’re you doing up?” He smiled at Rey, turning to her while wearing his commander’s uniform for once. “Can’t sleep?”

Rey had padded out of bed and down the hall to where Poe was on night duty. He had told her he had plenty of work to keep him busy but she found she couldn’t sleep. She pressed a kiss to his forehead, startling him. Rey giggled and smiled, sitting on his knee and looking at his data file. “Yeah, nightmares again.” She admitted softly.

"I'm sorry." He frowned, wrapping an arm around her to keep her close. "I'm almost done with my shift and then I can come to bed with you. How're you feeling? Any nausea?"

After a long moment of quiet rest Poe spoke again, this time his tones hushed and unsure rather than his usual confidence. The thought hadn’t exactly intended to come out, but it had all the same. Poe was curious (and daresay, hopeful) and he knew Varick would approach it with kindness no matter what his answer.

“How do you feel about the whole marriage thing?”

Varick was sleepy at the moment, convincing himself to stay on top of Poe just a little longer before he rolled to the side so they could rest appropriately. But the question suddenly got him wide awake. Marriage? The ginger sat up on his lover’s lower abs, looking at his face for any sign… of anything.

Once, a long time ago, he was invested in that, too invested he didn’t see the signs his partner gave many times and only realized there would be no marriage way too late. But Poe was different in every aspect, they were together for a reasonable amount of time and out of fear of placing too much expectations on him, Hux chose not to bring the subject up.

“I’m not opposed to the idea”, he replied, finally, fetching some tissues from the nightstand to clean the man up, trying to look more casual than slightly nervous. “How about you?”.
