buy a wooden hairbrush instead of a plastic one

instead of shampoo, conditioner and body wash in plastic bottles buy the lush bars that have no packaging and can be stored in reusable metal containers (my favourite shampoo and conditioner)

swap deodorant in plastic containers for lush’s packaging-less deodorant bars

swap your plastic toothbrush for a bamboo one

swap face wash, moisturiser or hair product in plastic bottles for coconut oil in a glass jar

swap disposable plastic razors for a metal safety razor

swap your disposable tampons/pads for a mooncup

use coconut oil to remove your makeup rather than using product and cotton pads

buy reusable makeup pads rather than disposable ones

going out

avoid takeaway boxes by bringing your own

avoid disposable plastic cutlery by bringing a reusable spork

avoid disposable coffee cups by taking a keep cup to coffee shops (a lot of places offer you a discount for this which is amazing on a student budget!)

avoid single-use plastic straws by using steel or glass ones

studying/working

go as paperless as possible by putting everything on a laptop/tablet

where you can’t avoid writing swap wire-bound notebooks for stitched recyclable notebooks 

swap plastic disposable pens for a refillable metal pen

use a kindle or other e-books instead of buying paper copies

eating

avoid tea bags lined with plastic by drinking loose leaf tea (you can store this in glass jars) with a strainer

try to buy vegetables without packaging in the supermarket

make a huge difference by cutting down on your meat consumption, whether that’s meatless mondays or full veganism. small changes make a huge difference!

use glass food containers (jars or big tupperware) instead of plastic

use reusable baking sheets rather than greaseproof paper/foil

always take a reusable bag with you when you go shopping instead of taking plastic ones

try charity shops/second-hand shops before you buy new clothes or books

remember! don’t throw away things you already have to buy sustainable alternatives. use everything up before you swap over to avoid waste!
