UNDERFELL’s Echo update has been out for a few months now and the response has been totally positive - but not a lot of people know about the game or the update!

Sorry, not sorry.

“Oh!  Hehe, thanks!”  Well that would have been embarrassing.  And… that was nice!  Sans could have left them to have egg on their face, literally and metaphorically, but he didn’t!  Small acts of kindness like that…. maybe he does like them.  Or maybe they’re just over-examining things again.

They step outside to find that it’s windy today, their hair rippling in the warm breeze.  It carries the smell of summer BBQs and fragrant flowers.  What a lovely day!  

Papyrus doesn’t stop to assess the quality of the day as he leads the others towards the bus stop, but he’s in less of a hurry by the time they arrive. 

He quickly assesses the pediatrician’s waiting room before walking to the counter. Why do they have toys in a doctor’s office? Or even stranger, a tank full of fish? He points it out to Frisk. They should like it, since in a way it's like a small ocean.

Still a little groggy, they head for the kitchen.  Frisk tries to eat as fast as they can, getting a little egg on their face in their haste and sleepy state.  It still somehow clings to their chin the whole time they’re pulling their boots on.  How long will it be until Sans points it out or Papyrus notices?  Papyrus is all over the place frazzled like a fraying blanket, and Sans is….. Sans.  It is still there as they tug their boots on.

Papyrus rushes out of his room ready to go, adjusting his belt buckle and looking around as if he thinks that he’s forgetting something. Finally Doomfanger is found and given a quick pet on the head. “ARE YOU COMING?” he asks Sans.

Sans hadn’t planned on it, really, but since Papyrus asked he pulls himself up from the couch. Papyrus wouldn’t actually ask Sans to come, he thinks, but asking if he was coming communicated that Papyrus would like him to. Clearly.

Frisk gets comfy under their blankets and listens with rapt attention, glad to have their attention diverted.  And, despite Sans telling the story with as much horror and gore as possible, they still fall asleep just about when it’s getting good.  At some point one of Frisk’s hands intertwined with Sans’, the grip loose and not yet interrupted by the occasional twitch of dreaming.

Huh. Sans really thought that would scare the shit out of them. Well, it’s probably better that they aren’t scared, when they could be running off to Papyrus complaining about the story... though, they don’t seem like a snitch so far. He tucks Frisk in carefully before heading back to the couch, where he’s still lying the next morning, covered in snack wrappers and crumbs.

“FRISK!! BREAKFAST IS DONE,” Papyrus informs them in the morning. He wouldn’t admit it, but he’s a bit tired- he didn’t get much sleep. He was a little worried about the doctor’s appointment, and got carried away reading the hospital’s human pamphlets and double-checking online that Frisk’s cold is okay. 

Sparrow absolutely loves the video of them singing, even if they aren’t making a lick of sense, and even if it’s really weird seeing their Dad as a baby right next to them.  And the picture of them as a burrito is so cute!!  This… this is really nice.  Their happy childhood may have come a little late but… they were rocked and given milk and coddled.  Something about this is deeply satisfying.  They can’t wait to ask Grandpa about it, they bet he had a great time too!!

“Cool!  How high did I get before you stopped me?  I bet I can get to the top now!”

“heh. i bet. but you got pretty high up.” He gestures to show how high up they got. it’s about as high as he stands. “i was impressed. you looked like a monkey.”

Papyrus has continued looking through the photos with a big smile. When he gets to the last photo, he swipes back to the first photo and starts again. Eventually he pauses, looking at a photo of the three toddlers thoughtfully. “SANS... DO YOU THINK WE REMEMBER?” 

“uh...” Sans raises a brow and glances down at the photo. He starts to answer that Papyrus would know that better than him, but Papyrus’ sentimental expression gives him pause. “remember?”

“I DON’T REMEMBER ANYTHING, BUT... YOU KNOW!!” Papyrus considers if he feels any differently about any of them, now... a sense of familiarity. He doesn’t think so. He’s probably already as familiar with all of them as possible, anyway.

Sparrow nods, padding into their room to change into pajamas and brush their teeth.  Despite the delightful fuzziness of their duck pajamas, they exist in a peculiar awake yet sleepy state.  Clambering onto Sans, they just feel… kinda buzzy in their brain.

“Can you tell me another story?  You can tell me one with the wolves now.”

Sans still isn’t completely used to the kid climbing into his lap like that. He doesn’t mind, or seem like he minds, but he doesn’t move at all. It’s as if he doesn’t notice. “alright, yeah. long as ya don’t mention it to-” 

There’s another swift kick to the dishwasher followed by restrained angry mutterings. Sans thinks that if it isn’t already broken like Papyrus claims, that kick could have done the job. “...i’ll tell it in your room. c’mon.”
