So, I made a new blog, a COMPLETELY new blog, because it kinda annoys me to have comfortabletextile only a side blog.

Meet Loreley, our new cat. She is precious.
I. AM. IN. LOVE.
And so is my partner
Trying out some nalbinding, this should turn into a hat, using the wool I dyed myself! And holy shit, the colors look so good together? Defenetly a happy accident! Next Projekt will be a hat for my partner with self dyed wool (but different colors)
ALSO WE ARE VISITING THE CAT WE MIGHT ADDOP TODAY! I ONLY SLEPT A FEW HOURS DESPIDE HAVING 4 NIGHT SHIFTS BECAUSE I AM SO DAM EXITED TO MEET HER IN PEROSN!!!!
So I tryed the Ashford acid dyes. And it was way easier for me. It was so posed to be teal, brown and a dark green, but I experimented to much... 😅
I am very excited to see, how the color way is going to turn out in a hat

Finished the belt!
And I think the colors fit PERFECTLY. I the green looks strange on it's own (at least to me) but with the black...
ALSO WE ARE ADOPTING A CAT! There is one especially that I fell for. But also an other lady that is going to take a look at her... Hopefully she says no.... That girl sounds like a perfect fit for our lifestyle!
Wool dyeing experiment. The chosen colors where: brown, olive green, an dark teal.... Yeah... It is still pretty, just not what I wanted. 😅
Those where acid colors made from food coloring. Defenetly will try it again, and I am going to try it with Ashford acid colors
LOOK HOW THIN THIS IS!?!?!! I love my Ashford traveller... I spun so much my thumbs started feeling funny so I made a little break for a few days, and now back to it 💪 there is a lot more fiber that waits to get on the bobbins
The first singles of the Traveller.
(I started a brown yarn, but the single ripped, and I were not able to find it again... So I had to cut it of the bobbin)
This is an autumn's shawl Projekt. And ich am very excited to see, how it is going to turn out!
I decide to buy the Ashford traveller.
AND. I. AM. IN. LOVE.
It spinns so smooth, I can actually spin lace weight yarn without a hand spindle. And I waxed it myself, what made a nice diy!

Just a short video of my card weaving in progress
What kind of sorcery is this?! I can never turn more than 10 cards in sequence because they just refuse to cooperate and you have like, what, 35? 40?! HOW?!?!
40 in the tree strap above! The most I ever tried was 44 for this ramshorn strap below - that was tough, but also ok because the groups turned separately? I think my hands would murder me if I tried to go any higher on my backstrap setup though ;) I think the trick is maintaining appropriate tension!
Yeah, that one looks real nice. What did you use it for?
@diamondot speaking for myself, i just decided to learn it one day a few years ago (i had a viking phase ok) and simply started with it. It's surprisingly easy since all the info is available on the net. Honestly, i don't remember where i started since it has been so long ago and now i just browse pinterest for patterns alone. Google tablet weaving or card weaving (same thing, different names) patterns and some basic explanations and yt vids for how to turn and weave the stuff. Things like
S and Z threading are there for a reason, so mind your card orientation. Start with some easy pattern like simple wave or diamonds above, 6 - 10 cards are good for your first project. Don't lose hope in initial stage. Streching and threading all that yarn can take anything between 20 minutes and 3 hours depending on how big is the pattern and how skilled you are. Since you need some lenghts to secure ends and to turn cards, use about 40 cm more than wished lenght of your final product. Secure lose ends after threading through cards so you won't end with a bundled mess. Streching/knotting them to something is one way. Taping each card threads together or using weights (check pictures below) is another way (good only for shorter stuff though). Cards could be made out of anything as long as they have smooth edges and rounded corners. Cardboard, thicker plastic sheet, literal cards cut into squares with holes punched through them, whatever. These are mine 2 decks, minus cards i am using atm.
When you start weaving and pattern looks like a total mess, try turning cards in opposite directions. It usualy solves the problem (all that forward/backward can be a bit tricky and mirroring motions/patterns/card orientation can be confusing at first seemingly messing all your work even though you are doing everything right technicaly, just in opposite order/direction). Don't lose your hope. I still manage to mess up like first 5cm of every other work i start. It's not an issue as that start usualy gets cut off anyway (the tension is not right for at least first 4 rows, aka 1 full card rotation, until all threads go up and down at least once no matter what you do. Don't sweat it). You don't need any fancy startup either. Historicaly, people used to weave like this and this and this:
I just strech the thing between 2 chairs myself. Door knobs work as well and so does staircase railing. Wherever you have some space. Long hair clips are your friend, especialy when you are done with weaving for the day and you don't want stuff to tangle
And that's about it. Have fun 😊
Also if you have some money, "tablets at work" by Claudia wollny is a wonderful book for beginners and people who know what they do. With different Pattern types (double face, kivrim, float work, twill and more) and a lot of patterns to practice. All tablet woven bands that are on my blog are from tablets at work.
I HAND SEWDE a mask. By HAND (had to say it extra, because I am VERY proud of this!)
It is made of silk, that is the only fabric that I have at home, so actually not very usable. But I learned a lot for the future, and am looking forward to sew one, that I can actually clean properly
GOT MYSELF A NEW TOY!
And have to wait till tomorrow to use it, because only then the weaving cards will come.
That will give me a new thing to do in this crisis.
As a nurse this is going to be tough...
At least I have a wonderful Human at my side, who can take care of the food/cleaning stuff....
A friend of mine ist living alone (also a nurse), we already have a plan to get here here, if she has no way of taking care of her self.
The hospital I am working with made a contract with a near hotel, if workers are to exhausted to get home.
Everything is very terrifying, but I am HELLA grateful for my job. Because I do not have to worry about anything else? Rent, job, money, nothing I have to worry about... And that gives me a sense of security.
Only left to hope, that the governments sanctions are enough to flatten the curve...
Stay save fellow humans, and take care of yourselves and you're loved ones!
Good luck! I have never worked with loom before and only ever streched threads between chairs but anyway, tablet weaving is such a nice hobby! I hope it helps in keeping you busy and sane and hey, how does a handmade bag with hand woven strap sounds?
I tried the chair thing, but it turned into some thread clusterf*ck 😅
Maybe one day, when I need a veeeery long one, I try it again
You mean like
(don't mind the mess, this is my "whatever" room)
I tried that one, but the chair would fall over the stuff in front of it, then I tried it with weights, but it messed with the tension...
Also my apartment has no room long enough to do it like you do it, only where I would be TOTALLY in the way.
And the pattern is very cute?!? Is there a closeup picture? And where did you get that pattern?
I actualy made it myself
S and Z threading switched from center on. White turns forward, grey back
HOLY! What are you? A level 10 weaver?!? That's IMPRESSIVE!!!

Weaving a double faced band to fix wool to a Distaff.
I totally bought the Ashford Traveller and I bought a Distaff for it. So I need some cute band with it.
The red in yellow is where all cards were in z. But they should have been in z and s... So it looks a little funky
Have been spinning on my wheel again. It will be very fluffy and thick woohl for a cardigan.
Also I might buy a new wheel. I LOVE my hammer wheel, but spinning thin yarn on it is rather difficult. And the Ashford traveller has four bobbins so I could make four ply yarn and ply from the Ashford to the Moswolt.... (the Moswolt Hammer wheel bobbins are HUGE)
Also it has the opportunity for a Attached Distaff.
The Kromski Minstrel is also an option, but has a bobbin less. But it is so f*cking beautiful!?!?
Well, I still have time to decide, but I am leaning towards the Ashford, because of the bobbins, also there are more extras available
