They REALLY tried to convince us this man was not attractive enough to be the lead when heās in the BEST looking Bridgerton. Couldnāt be me bc I was always ready to fold for Colin
No matter how perfect or good he is that show will not make me like Debling. Everything about him screams that he's considerably older then both Colin and Penelope, so why is he pursuing a 19 year old? He's a creep.
i'm gonna rant, and yes this is about certain screener spoilers from s3 that i've seen circling around the fandom. i've already had to unfollow someone because they were being so rude about this. im defending colin bc no one will.
I'm confused with a few people saying they now want Pen to be with Debling because he sees her as a woman, compliments her etc when Colin didn't, but I feel like it's a really unfair comparison. Luke said the reason Colin can't see that Pen is his true love match is because they met when they were so young. Debling is just meeting her now for the first time. I completely get this from Pen's perspective though, and I think the misunderstanding after their first kiss is going to be so heartbreaking on both their ends. For Pen, she might think it's pity/being nice because Colin would never see her that way. She's gotten her hopes up about him before only to be crushed so shes not going to let herself even go there. And for Colin, I dont think he knows that Pen ever had romantic feelings for him, so when hes struggling when seeing her with Debling he might think his feelings are unrequited and the kiss that meant so much to him didn't matter to her.
I donāt get people being stuck on him calling her beautiful. I feel like the things we get from Colin in the trailer reminding her of her worth is so much more impactful than someone saying sheās beautiful. Like Penelope is someone who is struggling with her worth in the society she lives and Colin refuses to let her talk bad about herself. The way she lights up when he tells her to remember that sheās Penelope Featherington is far more important imo
Big agree. Being called beautiful is like. . .bottom of the barrel in terms of compliments. When Colin reminds Penelope that she is Penelope Featherington and she should never forget that, implying that she has worth because she is who she is, that is so incredibly heartwarming to me. At any point in their relationship, Colin has not ONCE allowed Penelope to say a single bad thing about herself. "I am a spinster" you are not a spinster. "I am the laughingstock of the ton" Could we go somewhere private to talk about this? "I would not hold it against you if you chose to give up on me" Don't say things like that
That dress looks beautiful, I mean it. Never forget that. Your exquisite necklace. Never forget that. It is good to see you. Never forget that. You have always been so loyal. Never forget that. Penelope, what a barb! Never forget that. Is something wrong? Never forget that. You are my friend. Never forget that. Your letters were always so encouraging. Never forget that. You are special to me. I will always look after you. Never forget that. You are Penelope Featherington, never forget that. Never forget that. Never forget that.
This man *adores* her. He adores her openly and honestly and without any expectation. He has always found her funny and charming and wonderful.
Colin Bridgerton is Penelope's biggest fan, and one measly compliment from a 40 year old man looking to make her 19 year old self his wife with no care for who she is as a person, with no understanding whatsoever of her history or her desires, with no real care for her personhood will EVER compare to that.
Ever.

Listen, Iām on the āIāll believe it when I see itā train with all these inconsistent S3 rumors because 1) LOL the fucking Sun, people, really?! and 2) āWell, the friend of my friend said⦠and theyāre really reliable! Trust me!ā š
But even if it all ends up being true: Iāve already seen a handful of great posts talking about no, itās NOT actually harming Colinās character, thanks, and would make a lot of sense from what we know about where heās at mentally so far - Iāll try not to rehash stuff theyāve already argued really well⦠and probably fail once i get going š¬
But I would also like to throw out that canonically⦠Book!Colin ALSO had experience prior to his relationship with Penelope?? Not to rakeish levels, but yeah, he had sexual encounters with women⦠That he then specifically mentions as meaning NOTHING once he compares it to what he has with Penelope because with her there is actual LOVE built over YEARS of INTIMACY.
And since Show!Colin is markedly younger than his book counterpart, it would make sense that this is something he is exploring, whether the initial choice is through coercion from his brother(s), or because he is curious, or⦠whatever he reason is?? It doesnāt matter??
Heās YOUNG. Being young means being curious about sex! It often means learning over time the difference between mere physicality vs intimacy. Learning about sex can be messy, confusing, wonderful, terrible, mediocre, not what you thought itād be, etc etc etc.
Regardless of if weāre taking about Penelope OR Colin: Context is everything and WE. DONāT. HAVE. ANY. YET.
Penelope has her own coping mechanism for what sheās dealing with on her own throughout the show with LW; why is Colin any different, whether thatās drinking, tea, sex, etc? Heās clearly exploring different aspects of himself and finding what appeals or doesnāt appeal to him. And thatās normal!!
The IRONY of people claiming theyāre furious at Colin treating women like sex toys⦠when thatās exactly how some people view Colin for Penelope. He is more than a prop for her! Their whole story is that they choose each other after years of self discovery and recognition of each others true selves⦠ALL of their past experiences included.
Even if the rumored second instance is true⦠1) it would clearly be used as a way to prove that heās miserable and NEEDS love and Pen and intimacy and 2) characters make mistakes... often ones they learn from. Pen has made her fair share of poor choices, too. Colin has and WILL make mistakes because that is what interesting, developing characters do, yet yāall act like he is unforgivable for being given his own plot scenes. He is NOT just there to have sex with Penelope!! He is a character outside of his romance with his own struggles to grapple with!
Also, please be real - this was SO NORMAL for men during this era, especially at his age! Why are MODERN DAY AUDIENCES acting so fucking scandalized?? One or two instances doesnāt even make him a real rake, ESPECIALLY if itās being framed as him realizing it isnāt what he ultimately wants! Why are you even watching this show if something like this is so offensive to you?!
If all this ends up being accurate (which again, I doubt), I will admit Iāll probably be picky about how itās handled⦠but Iāve always felt that way about this pairing in the short time Iāve been in the fandom.
But I NEED people to chill the fuck out until the season actually airs. Youāre lambasting something you HAVENāT EVEN SEEN YET.
"How dare Colin treat Penelope as a friend; leaning on her for support and as a shoulder to cry on. Give him the cold shoulder, Pen! Make him learn your friendship is important!"
FINE, if no one else is gonna say it. . .
it is WEIRD that we as a fandom are so okay with Debling being a 'serious' option for Penelope. She is a 19 year old woman. She is a third daughter from an unpopular family who has no father. This is a 30 year old man, 40, even, who is pursuing a teenager. All the 'oh, he notices her as a woman!'
and none of us are asking why it is that a seemingly 'perfect' guy is out here going for a woman on the outskirts of her society, who most people do not pay attention to? a powerful man with a lot of money and a title pursuing a woman who is largely unnoticed in her world, in a family without a father, who doesn't have, on the surface, any other options? our fandom doesn't talk about how big of a power imbalance they have between them, or even how Penelope is being styled to look extra young in contrast to him?
she looks like his DAUGHTER. He's even styled to be a more mature man in their society. Compare him to the fashions of younger men. Clean shaven, sleeker lines in their fashion,
He is, in fact, most comparable to Will, who is a married man with three children.
Debling legit looks like he could be her father. That is NOT a 20 year old man. That man is in his 30s at best, and in his 40s at worst. Which gives him and Pen a decade or two of age difference. Add on the fact that he's titled and she's a literal teenager, and it just gives me the MAJOR ick.
People are praising the idea that Debling makes Penelope feel like a 'woman' but as someone who has been a 19 year old woman with much older men interested in me (especially a PLUS SIZE 19 year old woman with older men interested in me) claiming I am oh so mature, it's. . .uh, not usually a GOOD thing?
We'll demonize Colin for being a 22 year old man who doesn't see Penelope as a romantic option because for the grand majority of the time he's known her, she's been a minor, but see absolutely nothing wrong with the idea that the production has given her a suitor who is an outsider of their society, who could take her away wherever if she actually agrees to marry him, and now have this 19 year old woman no one is going to really check on to do with as he so pleases? And we're wanting him to. . .what? Make out with her? Take her virginity? Just the thought of that makes me deeply uncomfortable.
We'll talk about the power imbalance between Colin and Penelope, about how he has experience that she doesn't and how that can cause concern, but absolutely NOTHING about the ACTUALLY CONCERNING power imbalance between her and Debling? Colin is 22 and a third son, he and Penelope have known each other for years, he is safe. He would never take advantage of her or lead her astray, he cares about her as a person and then comes to love her and desire her in ways outside of friendship. Debling has known her for less than a month, is likely in his mid thirties, has a title and money and power, and felt okay with feeling up on her in public in an era when holding HANDS was considered scandalous.
Imma need us to give Monopoly Man more smoke because I am confused as to how he's oh so perfect and yet the option he chose for a wife is an unpopular and financially unstable 19 year old woman who is largely ignored in society. None of us find that weird?
Meanwhile, we have Colin who has, yes, held Penelope's hand and called her by her Christian name, but has also complimented her on things that aren't just her appearance, and who has asked how she's been, and tried to help her, and called her his friend, and wrote her letters, and cared about her, and I reiterate, is much much closer to her in age and can relate to her considerably more.
The whole 'oh, well Penelope should sleep with Debling to give her and Colin more even ground' is CREEPY. Colin slept around with sex workers on his travels because that's the regency appropriate safe and responsible way to explore such things for men of his age and status. He is following examples his brothers, whom he trusts and loves deeply, have set for him. He is not exploiting anyone. He is paying for a service and that service is being provided. And he's an attractive man who is young and respectful, these women are FINE, so don't go pearl clutching over how he's being oh so fetishistic just because he's exploring kink. Penelope doing these things with Debling would be HIM taking advantage of HER, and putting her in a very vulnerable and scary position. If that actually happens, what options does she have? He could say he ruined her and that would be game over for her, she has no other choices or options outside of that. And if it's actually true, she is TRAPPED.
I need this fandom to be so serious here right now. You don't ship Pebling. You ship Penelope being seen as desirable, and COLIN finds Penelope desirable. He will make that very VERY evident. We don't need an almost 40 year old man to pursue her and do nothing but compliment how hot she is and feel up on her in public to do that. He doesn't see her as a person, but Colin does. We should be rooting for one of these men, and it's not the one a lot of us are.
sorry, just had to get this off my chest but like
colin, a young and attractive guy, supposedly having a threesome and watching a sex show performed by professionals whom he pays for their service when he is single and exploring what he does and doesn't like is bad for penelope, somehow
but debling a 30+ year old man feeling all up on her waist in public when she is a teenager and he has power and privilege over her and has known her for a grand total of like a week and a half is good, somehow
like this fandom has legit called Colin, a 22 year old man with like. . .2 semi-confirmed sexual interactions in the past a groomer for getting with Penelope and introducing her to his interests (after spending YEARS listening to her and cherishing her and thinking she's fantastic) but will root on the actual 30+ year old man with an enormous power imbalance over her via his money and title to have his way with her in a backroom somewhere after knowing her for like a month
make it make sense please
I'm confused with a few people saying they now want Pen to be with Debling because he sees her as a woman, compliments her etc when Colin didn't, but I feel like it's a really unfair comparison. Luke said the reason Colin can't see that Pen is his true love match is because they met when they were so young. Debling is just meeting her now for the first time. And for Colin, I dont think he knows that Pen ever had romantic feelings for him, so when hes struggling when seeing her with Debling he might think his feelings are unrequited and the kiss that meant so much to him didn't matter to her.
I also find it weird because. . .Colin ABSOLUTELY compliments her? He compliments her necklace in S2, and compliments her goodness, calls her funny, praises her barbs, asks how she's feeling, says she's a loyal friend, wants to check if she's okay, says her dress is pretty. Like. . .Colin compliments Pen more than anyone has canonically. It's very confusing. Colin met Penelope when she was a child and he was approaching adulthood (if they stick with the she was 15 and he was 18 storyline). Of course he didn't see her as a romantic option right away. Green flags on main
I think that kiss they share is going to be the catalyst for so much of their story. It's the first time she's openly asked for what she wants from him, and also the first sign she actually gives him that she wants him as more than a friend. And so for him it'll be eye opening and life changing, but he thinks it means nothing to her because she's pursuing a future with someone else. And for Penelope, she thinks he only did it as a favor to her (to the point where she thanks him for it) and that she has no hope of their relationship ever being anything else
we're gonna get mutual pining on main and i am DYING for it

I just want to say some of yall are really showing yall selves by the reactions to this brothel scene nonsense
Considering the episodes are usually 50+ minutes these scenes probably take less than 1% of screen time. Itās mostly likely just character building & Set for Colin. I know some of yāall didnāt want Colin to have experienced but this is Bridgerton weāre talking about and it makes total sense that they would give him experience.
I really feel like some of yāall are just upset that itās not just four episodes of Colin groveling and begging for affection from Penelope while she denies him & flirts with Debling but they are on more even ground of experiences things with other people that makes them realize they only want each other.
I donāt actually want to see the brothel scenes or any of the Debling stuff, but I understand this stuff is necessary to make the polin scenes have actual impact. I think people are hyper focusing on the wrong things. We get a season of polin falling in love thatās the whole point. They are what matter and Iāve seen people say this is the best season and best love story Bridgerton has done
The die hard Polin fans who have created this idea of Colin in their heads (sounds familiar) need to manage their expectations. They should have been doing so since the beginning, in my opinion.
STOP READING NOW IF YOU DON'T WANT INFORMATION ON THE BROTHEL SCENES AND THE SEASON'S VIBES IN GENERAL:
You will never catch me rooting for this couple when I know their child will come out looking like Yukon Cornelius.
False advertising is bad UNLESS itās Netflix overhyping Debling to pull in all the casuals and then paying him dust in the actual series, moving on quickly and not even taking him seriously for a second. Like I actually need some of these fans to be disappointed this season not gonna lie. I donāt care if yāall like the season, I care if EYE like the season and I have no use for Debling in my Polin season at all. If the season ends with most of the audience screeching because Colin didnāt grovel enough, or they didnāt get to see him act jealous enough, or Debling wasnāt the good guy they jumped on the bandwagon for, Iāll literally be over here:
I'm sorry, but this is THE most vanilla fandom ever. Oh my goddddd. The entire lot of us freaking out over *checks notes* Colin watching porn. like i have legit seen takes of people being like 'Penelope should know his kinks before he CORRUPTS her' and 'won't anyone think of Penelope's perspective in this!!!' and 'she needs to know and agree to his fetishes'
like I'm SO sorry peeps are pearl clutching over Colin being a kinky little freak (allegedly) but like the man BEEN had a thing for watching and a filthy mouth, sorry not sorry, but I'm kind of loving the idea that he's joining the battle against kink and debauchery on the side of kink and debauchery and frankly I think Penelope would, too
#colin having a voyeurism kink is so in character like this man LOVES watching penelope receive pleasure he wanted her to see it too#aka MIRROR#him having a threesome with two women which is just him sat there watching them have sex is kinky as hell which is his thing#we've stated before that book colin is one of the kinkiest so a voyeurism kink isn't impossible like??#even though reviewers have debunked the article bc it's a fucking s*n article and no one should believe that#i would be fine seeing it because it's LUKE FUCKIN' NEWTON @starryspindel
as always, the most amazing tags ever, Starry. The world must see them, I demand it
Like. . .I just feel like the backlash (at a fake ass article, I maintain that) is predominately disappointment that this is something that is 'robbed' from Penelope. But it isn't. It's just. . .a storyline that happens to be Colin's and has nothing to do with her. Someone was like 'No one is talking about Penelope's perspective in this'.
Because. . .it isn't really. . .a matter of her perspective? Colin discovering what he does and doesn't like sexually can happen outside of her, especially since he also explores what he likes WITH her. The same way she explores what SHE likes with HIM!! Penelope has a lot of storylines that happen outside of Colin, and that's what makes her a full character. Do I think sex being one of the only storylines Colin might have just for him is a perfect way to handle his character? No, but I do think it can be a portion of him discovering himself. This fandom telling on ourselves HEAVY. Like why exactly is it so 'icky and gross and weird' that he has a voyeurism kink? He's a dirty talker canonically and he's into fucking in carriages (with a driver right there and lord knows who in the vicinity) and watching him and Pen have sex in a mirror? Half our archives are porn. We're literally drooling to watch him blow Pen's back out on camera. How is it so different? He's into watching women getting off. He's into watching PEN get off. What's wrong with that?
Idk, I just think with the rise of anti-sex discussions on the internet and real life, and people being increasingly hostile to kink, I'm seeing just how catholic on main this fandom is and how we're following a lot of really frustrating rhetoric. Do I want to see it necessarily? No, because I love Polin and I really just wanna see THEM fuck, but has seeing the overwhelming and honestly ridiculous levels of backlash to (i reiterate, a totally bogus article) being things like 'How will Colin EVER deserve Pen NOW that he's a filthy little pervert!?' like
I'm rooting for the threesome and watching. Let him be kinky. It's okay.
I've seen the most absurd takes on this whole situation; from Penelope deserves someone with experience (tame) to Penelope should fuck Debling because it's only fair (batshit insane), completely forgetting that we're dealing with a gently bred Lady who only loves one man and would never put herself in that situation with a stranger. As much as I would like to see Polin explore sex and pleasure together as two newbies, Colin teaching and helping Penelope discover her own likes and dislikes is also completely fine. Let our kinky King lead her into a world of pure imagination.
But onto the rumour:
Another person has apparently said their 'friend' has seen the episodes and has confirmed it: Colin goes to a brothel, has a threesome and then goes straight to a lesson with Penelope immediately after. This happens at the beginning of episode 2. However, the scene is rather short and not memorable (so like the scenes of Simon and Anthony rolling out of bed and walking out).
Yet, someone else has said their 'friend' had early access and didn't see anything like that but Colin being flirty and charming. So at this point it's either people are making stuff up for their own amusement or it happens but the article either is completely correct or exaggerates, and it's so quick it's not something people are remembering.
Either way it's the S*n and they are not a trustworthy news source. This journalist even said there was a orchestral version of Pitbull's Give Me Everything which is just the most random of songs in my opinion???
Nicola said that all the sex scenes are not throwaway this season, that they serve a purpose so this supposed 'threesome' or sex show must tell us something about Colin.
I've also seen some WILD ass slut shaming taking place. As if visiting sex workers is somehow a disgusting act to take part in? Like when we say we have to de-stigmatize sex work, this is part of that. And also, the whole 'Well, now Pen has to fuck Debling so it's fair' is ridiculous not because Pen can't have experiences, she can! But more so because. . .it isn't a fucking scorecard. I'm so tired of people treating Polin like a scorecard. 'He said something mean about her so now he has to grovel and suffer' 'She did this for him so now he has to prove that he loves her by doing x for her!' 'He hurt her so she should hurt him back!' 'He had sex so she should, too!'
Like. . .do these people understand that relationships aren't a 1v1 battle? Colin is engaging in intimacy without emotion when he's taking part in no strings attached sex. That's something a LOT of people do and it's not bad or disgusting as I've seen some people state. It's literally normal. I was very much on the 'I want polin to discover what they like and have first times together!' train!!! But even IF that's not the case, who gives a shit? They discover each other! And these experiences are new for both of them because neither of them have had those experiences with someone they love and cherish, which they will with each other. The thing in the books that made me love Polin so much was that Colin gives Penelope the confidence to be more herself, more brave, more open, more than she thought she could be, and bolsters her in that. Kink is about trust and care and communication- which Polin will absolutely have with one another. Arguably, Penelope is getting the better deal here, because he'd have had experiences that make him value that communication and trust very much.
Idk, I'm fine with both of them having experiences, but the idea of Pen and Monopoly Man (I refuse to use his name now, can't stand him, sorry not sorry) having sex or being intimate or anything is just a revenge fantasy projection from people who don't actually like this couple, anyway. They don't want these things for Penelope's development or for the betterment of Polin's story, but so that they're 'on level ground' (which isn't even the case) in a tit for tat contest that Polin isn't even taking part in. Colin's single, he's exploring his interests, and maybe the only way he can do so safely is with people he pays for their professionalism in that regard. What's wrong with that? Vs Pen would have the opportunity to explore her kinks and desires with someone who loves and cares for her. I'm just really hissing at this fandom's puritanical ass nonsense. The things that have been said over this man so much as WATCHING sex is baffling. As if we don't watch or read porn, ourselves. And most of the time don't even compensate the person/peoples providing it.
Tbh as far as the rumors go, I'm really not here for the whole 'a friend of a friend of a friend's mom saw it and said x!' stuff lol I'm too much of a skeptic. I'm more so here to discuss the fandom reaction (and also how quick we are to believe stuff that is unsubstantiated, and how easily we blow it out of proportion) Like LMFAO Pitbull's Give Me Everything would just make me start cackling. Colin says 'dale' during it, too. It's true, a friend of mine saw it. It's a beautiful scene. lmfao
I think the sex scenes are going to tell us stuff about the characters, I also think people don't WANT to think too deeply about Colin as a character. He is not off the pedestal in the least. A lot of people just want him to exist as a prop for Penelope's story, ignoring that POLIN is their story TOGETHER, which means yes, he gets a perspective that may happen away from her. Their storylines diverge and come together, and I think that's fine. Honestly, there's a lot of story to tell in sex, but there's SO much puritanism in this fandom that people don't really want to discuss it unless it's 'soulmates looking deeply into one another's eyes' meta, which don't get me wrong, I LOVE TOO!!!
But like. . .Colin is fine. He can have sex with other people and it will tell something about him. How he might have been influenced to do so by his brothers, who are the male role models he has in his life. How maybe he's hungry for connection and touch after being abandoned by near everyone on his travels (that 'very few replied' comment indicates he has a lot of loneliness, and a lot of people go to sex workers to mitigate that, which is not something to consider disgusting as I've seen others in this fandom do). How maybe he's just kinky and exploring. How he's finally over his heartbreak from Season 1 in full. How he's realized that doing all the right things and being the perfect gentleman didn't actually get him anywhere except wandering on his lonesome in unfamiliar places, and so he's thinking fuck it, time to have experiences. Or maybe even that he's ready to let loose and go wild.
People's large problems with this (unsubstantiated) rumor is that 1: it is a storyline that exists SOLELY for him and his character, and 2: Catholic fandoms thrive on shame and cannot discuss any modicum of sexual liberation that goes against the accepted norms, and so this is a step too far, and now he will 'never deserve Penelope'. And it's a hella catholic fandom. I mean. . .the whole 'he has to suffer to earn forgiveness!!' thing really solidified that
but idk, they could never make me hate Colin lol he's too good a character, and if Pen gets to have her back blown out by a loving partner who is kinky on main and knows how to handle it, I say good for her and him both
The Polin fandom needs to stop putting Debling on a pedestal when we know nothing about this man. Iāve seen horrible takes by āPolin fansā saying Debling will be Penelopeās knight in shining armor and teach Colin how to treat her right. That she needs to be properly courted and romanced before āsettlingā for Colin. These are the same people who campaigned for Debling and Penelope having sex the SECOND the fake Sun article dropped. There is a fine line between being a Polin fan and a Penelope only fan. You only see Colin as a prize Penelope earns instead of his own person. Thatās why as soon as he doesnāt act according to your standards, you start rooting for the other guy. This season is about Penelope AND Colin. Iām tired of his own fans being his biggest haters.
They donāt see Colin as his own character and they donāt get Polin as a couple. They certainly donāt understand friends to lovers since this obsession with Debling is based on some idea of him being in love at first sight with Penelope - an idea the show itself doesnāt even support since COLIN has to help her find a man.
Because a fan of Polin the couple would be more concerned that the show wants to give so much of what made this couple beautiful over to a random OC, diminishing Colinās role in his own love story, and belittling Polinās relationship to just āwell he was there first.ā These Penelope only fans would sacrifice Polins entire love story for the chance that Penelope could gain male validation from multiple men, and swear up and down that thatās āprogressive.ā Their fantasy isnāt for Penelope to get the man she wants, their fantasy is for Penelope to have options. Their fantasy is revenge. Thatās not a romance.

People who say things like this are NOT Polin Stans.
We have not one second of pov from Pen on Debling bc that would ruin the illusion of a triangle bc the triangle doesnāt actually exist. Penelope does not want that man. She wants a way out of the Featherington House. IMO from the photos that dropped itās more than likely when Debling starts to court Pen itās not just Colin longing while Pen is being swept off her feet. It more then likely mutual pining with Colin thinking heās losing her & Pen realizing sheās never going to get over Colin & no other man will never make him feel the way he does.
Itās pretty fucking hilarious that these people think heās going to be a knight in shining armor when the pics we got indicate that Colin is doing the saving & Debling/Pen are just watching the action.
So all this people with the illusion thinking Debling is going to be this big romantic hero are missing the point

Debling is allowed to be this perfect prince because we know absolutely nothing about him, and the concept of being 'perfect' is somehow more appealing than Colin, who is considerably more of a full character. It's also a misunderstanding of the entire premise of Bridgerton: there is not ONE couple who 'courted properly' before having their love story, because the purpose of it is that the Bridgertons fall in love in unconventional ways for their society, and that's what we're interested in.
I just don't understand this fandom. Colin is miles away the best male character in this series (no one can change my mind, and I am NOT sorry) and a cardboard cutout OC who is coming in at the 11th hour doesn't entice me in the least. It also. . .won't entice Penelope. Canonically. Penelope Featherington? That woman isn't INTERESTED in Perfect. That is a woman who has no need or desire for a perfect dude who always says the perfect things. She is MESSY. She thrives in chaos. The only reason she thought Colin was perfect was because he was perfect IN HER EYES. He's a disaster in and of himself.
But, strangely enough, the Pen stans who don't care about Colin, don't actually understand Penelope's character, either. Penelope isn't even rooting for this other guy, but they are? Come on. If there's anyone she's settling for, it would be Debling.
I said it before and I'll say it again: Colin is still on the pedestal in this fandom. Because being OFF that pedestal is not seeing him say one thing poorly and then hating on him for years and claiming he doesn't deserve happiness and should suffer and grovel for forgiveness. It's recognizing that he's just a man and he makes mistakes. An imperfect man.
The imperfect man of Penelope's heart, in fact.
