how lucky we are

She looked at him and smiled, “Well then, we have to make sure we have fun while do this. Some down time could be good but depends on what snacks you’re planning on making.” She smiled nodding at the idea.

“I don’t see how we couldn’t have fun. It sounds like a great evening already,” he told her with a bit of a grin. “Alright. What sort of snacks do you want? I can whip up whatever.”

Kara nodded, “That is totally fine and works totally fine. I do like that place.” She smiled as she put a hand through her hair and smiled, “So how was your day anyway?”

“Okay, I’m glad,” he said with a smile, happy to have chosen somewhere she liked. “It was pretty good. Uneventful and full of work. What about yours?”

As soon as he started walking in the direction of the building that had been evading her for the last half hour she fell into step just behind him managing to just about keep the pace without much trouble. She tilted her head a little when he spoke of regretting moving and she shrugged a little with a smile “It’s not so much regret rather than feeling a little lost right now” she answered and laughed realizing her statement sounded more literal than she intended “But I’ll find my way with the right help” she added with a gentle nod.

He nodded as he listened to her explanation, finding that perfectly understandable. “A new place always takes time to figure out and find comfortable. But it does happen, so hopefully it won’t take you too long,” Colin offered her an encouraging smile, before facing forward again. Unintentionally, he chuckled a little upon hearing her question, if only because of how much he could say on the topic.

“I try to be.” She laughed hoping he knew she was joking. Tapping her chin  with her finger she tried to think of a good time. “Well how about 5 to make sure we have enough time. Well now that does sound like fun and it could make the night more fun then it already will be.”

He nodded in agreement, happy with that time, especially considering he was open to anything that evening. “That works for me. We can always have some downtime before we head out to the bar. I can make some snacks, if you’d like,” Colin offered, thinking of appetizers he could prepare.

Kota was independant to the point that she disliked having to ask others for help so she couldn’t help but feel a little rush of relief when the person replied in a friendly tone, so far her limited introduction to Sanford had been from her upperclass neighbours and businessmen, it was a breath of fresh air to meet someone.. well anywhere near down to earth.

He gave her a pleasant shrug, figuring he might as well do what he could to help people with his great knowledge of the layout of Sanford. Colin wasted no time setting out for her requested destination, having no idea how desperately she needed to make it on time, but not about to test the limits one way or another. “Well I hope you don’t regret the move already. Sanford’s a pretty great place.” Turning his head to look at her as they walked, he smiled. “I’m Colin. It’s nice to meet you, Dakota. And welcome to Sanford.”

Dakota cursed herself as she held her phone in front of her a puzzled expression crossing her features. “I could have sworn it was here” she muttered to herself before locking her phone and tucking it into her pocket, only she could get herself lost in the small town she now lived in after moving from the city. Brow furrowed she turned on her heels to gather the surroundings before blowing out an annoyed breath, she was going to be late for her first conference if she didn’t figure out where she needed to be soon.

Having decided to walk into town from his house meant Colin then needed to walk back. He supposed he could’ve called a cab, but he was far too close, making the prospect a ridiculous one. The thing about strolling the whole way was that it left Colin time to thing. That inevitably meant he drifted away from considering the work ahead of him that day and toward less imperative topics.
