Spiral Seas ‘’Lullaby’’ - with kind regards to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Buckle up, piano lovers, this will be a good one. As a classically trained musician, I literally sunk in my chair when I heard the first notes and kept sinking all the way through the song.
‘‘Lullaby’‘ by Spiral Seas is a neoclassical piece played solely on a piano and is largely dedicated to the giant predecessors of the genre, such as Mozart, Liszt and Chopin. It does, however, bring a few surprises along the almost three minute long composition that feels a lot longer (and that’s a good thing!). Beautifully holding up at the beginning of each bar, the pianist continues to elaborate on a twinkling melody that is soon illuminated by a few bass notes. While the melody runs quickly, yet ever so effortlessly around it’s core, the sustain pedal creates plenty of space to appreciate the motion of the composition as a whole. Although largely inspired by classical standards, the music does divert into a few pop elements and a number of absolutely brilliant harmonic variations on the melody.
