A closer look at the coins.co.th team - meet Tungmay
Tungmay has a strong passion for developing Thailand, her home country, and Southeast Asia. She studied at one of the top business schools in Thailand; Thammasat University, graduating as second classhonors. She chose to continue her business journey in the startup world after working in venture capital, beginning in the Edtech industry where she believed she could make a greater impact on her community. Currently, she is the Business Development and Growth Hacking Team Leader at coins.co.th, one of Thailand’s leading Fintech startups.
The reason I joined coins.co.th is because I believe that Finance is a critical sector in any country, especially in developing regions. Finance is closely linked to people’s daily life. And yet, I see a huge portion of the population in SE Asia with zero to very limited access to basic financial services. This showed me the potential of better financial services that are faster, safer, free, and accessible to everyone.
From the first moment, I started working at coins.co.th, I was impressed with how we work here. We are a Fintech startup that of course grows and moves fast, yet we put customers’ safety and satisfaction as a top priority. We want every customer to have the best experience with us. Bitcoin and Blockchain might still be in early stages of development in Thailand but at coins.co.th we strongly believe that this technology will revolutionize the financial industry. If we can improve financial infrastructure throughout SE Asia, the region’s economic potential and global economic negotiating power can increase significantly.
After working for a few months at coins.co.th, I introduced the idea of working remotely to my team. We started with a short trial period, and after it’s initial success we continued with intermittent periods of remote work. It has now been almost a year. Being a team leader without meeting your team everyday can be a challenge. But by spending time with the team in person every few months, I’m able to stay plugged into important issues the team is facing. The most important things are trust and communication. We always discuss and help each other. At the same time, at coins.co.th we trust everyone to take care of their own project. The KPI here is not the hours you work each day, but the result you deliver within the timeline and goals that we set together. With the primary aim being to deliver the best quality products and services to our customers.
Everyday when I wake up and turn on my laptop, I tell myself that we are working on the coolest innovation that will help millions of people to have a better life. Of course, there will be some days that are more challenging than others. That’s why self-motivation is really important. In the end, you have to respect the opportunity and the trust that your team and customers give to you. And most important, be honest with yourself.
I’m really lucky to have this opportunity to be part of a young, passionate and professional team that is working together to achieve a great mission. Our passion goes beyond just Bitcoin and Blockchain. What we are working on is bigger than that. We are the startup team that uses technology to empower Southeast Asia - and most importantly, it’s people.
