Caffeine, Gleeky, & Geeky Things

It's rubber or plastic, long, that fits over the edge of a thin piece of wood or whatever it was that I had to attach it to. It protects both sides of the edge from harm and you from it. It's thin, not bulky, maybe an inch in height.

I don't think it was specifically for use as a baby bumper because like I said, it wasn't bulky.

I remember it being a pain to put on. You get it a little wrong and have to start all over because it won't slide into place.

Does anyone have any clue what I'm talking about?

Brain storming with a friend and thinking clear plastic tubing like one uses on fish tanks and other projects could work. I have some in the garage that I'll try out.

Still open to suggestions. I've thought about painting both sides/edges of the plywood too before attaching it to the walls.

Thank you to @cats-go-bump-in-the-night for knowing that there are things that exist. It gave me the incentive to keep looking. I've found this that could work and it's really cheap. It'll do what I need it to do - act as a barrier between the floor that groundwater sometimes gets on and the plywood I'm using to replace the damaged old paneling that wicks that water up like crazy.

The woman says "Ridiculous..."

The old lady is not in her home. She is at work. She's meant to be what in Italian is called "la portinaia", aka a cross between a doorwoman and cleaner of a residential building. She's in her small "office" space, at the entrance of the building, from where she can survey the coming and goings of the inhabitants. It's a job that has mostly disappeared, but is culturally very clear to us as having the connotation of "potentially gossipy, one-million-percent judgmental woman who sees everything that goes on in the apartment complex, knows everyone and their secrets, and has Strong Opinions™️".

But Elmo, after cheerfully surrendering his old toys, sees that the children who swapped toys with him are playing with his toys “wrong”! They’re imagining entirely different make believe scenarios! They’re pretending the football is a dinosaur egg instead of a rocket ship! Aaahhhhh!!!! And this is so distressing to poor Elmo that he does the unthinkable: He does swapsies-backsies and takes all his toys back!

This being Sesame Street, he learns that you can’t control how other people play pretend, but you can join in if you want to! And if you don’t want to, that’s ok, you can just play pretend your own way by yourself or with someone else who wants to play that way too. You can still be friends with people who play pretend differently than you (and aren’t being mean/harmful/etc, do not bad-faith-read this 🤨).

iOS: Ads no longer open the advertiser's page or app as you scroll past them.

iOS: The newest messages in a DM have stopped hiding behind the keyboard.

iOS: Buttons and links in the Pride palette were yellow, making them hard to see. They’re blue now.

iOS: The Featured Tags editor was invisible on certain palettes. It’s visible again.

iOS: We fixed a long-standing crash that could happen during feed scrolling.

Android: Timestamps were sometimes mysteriously missing on reblogs. Not anymore.

Web: Applying inline formatting (bold, italic, small, strike, link, or color) across text with line breaks will not delete trailing characters.

Web: The "Contact support" option in the three-dot menu in purchase settings now opens the support form instead of @support .

🚧 Ongoing

Android: Some users have reported that the app freezes or crashes while scrolling through tag search. If you've experienced this, please file a Support Request with your device and OS version.

iOS: A small set of iOS users have reported that the post editor (pencil icon) sometimes doesn't open the editor when tapped, even though it gives haptic feedback.

Web: We're aware that some users are seeing a persistently empty For You feed, and that some Firefox users are seeing a cluster of related issues (stuck Home/Activity notification badges, errors when sending DMs or publishing). We're still trying to reliably reproduce both — please send us details if you're affected.

Mobile: Some thumbnails appear pixelated in the iOS and Android apps even when they look fine on web.

i came out to my grandma at the beginning of the year over the phone.
