If you're a new writer and you're asking yourself "is this too personal, is this too much, will people think this is weird" that feeling is the exact location of your actual voice. The stuff that makes you want to close the laptop is the stuff nobody else could write. The safe version is always worse. Always. I have never once read something and thought "this would have been better if it was a little less honest." go further. It's always go further.

i think this captures the defining pathology of the collective social media psyche right now. we are in the thrall of people who are wantonly cruel but who also demand to be coddled at all times in every way
I saw a post the other day talking about cruelty versus honesty, and the question they asked is, are you honest about the good things too? Do you compliment people for the things you like about them? Do you cheer someone up when they made a mistake and feel like a failure? Do you call out someone with power over you when he’s taking credit for someone else’s idea?
If you’re just honest when it lets you hurt someone, you’re not even honest. Because you’re claiming honesty when you’re just using it as an excuse to be cruel.

Supervisor put a stop work order on the basement painting today because she insisted that I take her outside to see the big truck she heard, go potty, and then stare at the delivery guy waiting around for over an hour for someone to answer the door to take the delivery.
In related news, the next door neighbors got a new refrigerator and stove.
Also, it's now too dark to go back to painting. I only had 2-3 more hours to go to do the third and last section of the wall (whole lot of utility lines to paint around.) :(
Am I frustrated? Yes. Am I mad? No. Because you can't get mad at a cute dog being a dog. Suzie thought her other human might be home and needed to see if that was true.
Crichton's stop work orders were done by him sitting up against me and insisting on butt scratches. Suzie's are spinning, going all dancy pants, and running up the stairs to get me to follow her. Both hilarious.
