Thanks to @bitbybitwrites for tagging me. I just so happen to be taking a self care day (i.e. not smelling like primer or paint or cursing at what the previous owners did to my house) and so took some time to write. I didn't write any new sentences, but rather cleaned up some and added descriptors to a scene that was mostly dialog before. Said scene is from my royal!Glee WIP fic, Bodyguards, and features Royal Hummel Guard Cadet Grace Hitchens, Cadet Matt Rutherford, and Captain Connie "Nana" Puckerman. It was inspired by s2 ep 5 of the show, "The Diplomat."
I'm seriously considering posting/publishing the Burt chapters soon as they're mostly complete.

Cadet Grace Hitchens stood her ground in front of the closed door, meeting the manβs eyes, and replied to his demand in a polite, firm tone, βIβm sorry, Sir. This restroom is closed.β
βYou canβt close a bathroom! I have to take a piss, damn it.β
βThereβs another restroom on the second floor to the right of the stairs.β
βDo you know who I am? Iβm the goddamn president of the Republic of Texas!β
Grace gave the briefest of nods, ever watchful eyes never looking away. βItβs nice to meet you, President Clarington. Iβm sorry, but this room is currently occupied. There is a restroom on the first floor as well.β
βFuck your stairs. Let me through.β
Her tone was firmer now. Some people refused to take no for an answer. βSir, could you take a step back, please?β
βIβll have my security detail drag your sorry little ass out of here.β
Grace shifted her weight, covering more of the area she was guarding, and preparing herself for another escalation. βSir, I am now telling you to take two steps back. This restroom is closed.β
As she had been trained to do, Grace pressed the button on her lapelβs mic, listening for the reply in her earpiece, and answering back. βCohen, we have a situation. Code Alpha. Keep βem inside. Iβll let you know if I need backup.β
βBackup? Who the hell are you talking to, you little cunt?β
When the man charged closer, Grace blocked him from the door with her body, and then with a grab of his wrist and a twist, pinned his arm to his back. The other followed after he took a drunken swing at her face.
βSecurity!β
Hitchens took in the suited man who rushed to the screaming presidentβs side, hand on butt on the firearm that was concealed under his open jacket, assessing the situation himself and not stepping in to free his protectee.
βYou with Lima?β
βI am.β
βIf you could release President Clarington, Iβll take him off your hands.β
βIβd appreciate that.β
The bodyguard pressed a button on his coiled earpiece mic. βCharlie, clear the bathroom on the first floor. Iβm coming down with Cowboy.β
Hitchens handed the still belligerent and struggling president over to his protection, ignoring his threats of calling her boss, having her fired, and the spew of racist, sexist insults spitting from his mouth as he was escorted away.
When the area was clear, she clicked on her mic. βMuskowitz, you seeing Clarington on the first floor? Great. Weβre Green. Wildflower can come out when sheβs ready.β
A smartly dressed woman stepped out from the shadows of an alcove. βEnd scenario. Good job, Hitchens.β
Matt rotated his arm, swearing he could hear popping noises as he reached the top of the stairs to rejoin the little group. βGood job? She almost dislocated my shoulder, Captain.β
βBut I didnβt. You called me a bellhopβs whore, Rutherford.β
βJust playing the part I was assigned.β
βAny notes, Captain?β
βCadet Hutchinson, call for back up next time. An extra agent or two could have made all the difference if heβd gotten more physical. Cadet Rutherford, go ice your shoulder. Youβre all on for real tomorrow. Write up your reports. Donβt leave a single detail out. Iβll see you in the morning; 6 a.m. sharp. Youβre dismissed.β
βYes, Captain.β

i love it when im rereading a story and i find these little breadcrumbs of foreshadowing the author left. everytime im like βohoho!!!! i wouldve gotten that before if i had the big picture!!! and now i do!!! delightful!!!β and idk i just love being able to read the same story twice but have two different experiences. i like when a story has so many layers that it can keep you entertained for a long time as you unravel all its secret nooks and crannies. thats a good story.

I really wonder what the demographic outcome would be of trans people involuntarily getting "the body you'd have if practicality wasn't a concern" like what percentage of the resulting bodies would be obviously nonhuman?
Imagine not knowing. Like, you have a vague idea buried somewhere in your head that there's some gender going on, and you're not really happy with the body you have, but that's not something you're fully ready to accept so you will continue with your day job while you play video games as a different gender.
