Stuck in Customs
“I see Americans are always quick to threaten those they don’t understand,” he said in a harsh tone. “I didn’t say I wouldn’t go with you and I think it’s rude for you to threaten me before awaiting for my answer. I probably won’t need a room after I discuss my situation with Director Fury.”
With that he stopped his hand motion and put the beads back into his pocket. “After you.”
"To be fair, you're the one with emotional problems, not me. And, you're the one who has a habit of lashing out at people, if your files are correct. I'm just making your options clear to you, agha Shoja. Make my life easy and I'll make your life easy. Make my life difficult...and well..." Beth just smiled and made a sweeping motion with her hand. "After you, I insist."

Stuck in Customs
Since she wasn’t a familiar he wasn’t going to give her a hug and three kisses, as per Afghan tradition, instead when she had introduced herself he had simply given her a slight nod/bow. When she mentioned the government and how they sent him here for training he had a look of displeasement. Annoyed that he was cuffed just moments ago and now being asked just why he was here?
Taking out his tasbah again, he began to read his prayers and try to calm down once more. When she mentioned food, he was confused, “food?” he stopped his prayer but kept his beads in hand, pushing them in order as he counted. He hopes this would be enough to keep her off the topic as it was a sensitive one for him.
"I see I've struck a nerve... I apologize, Aslan. I'm just curious." Beth watched the stranger extract his prayer beads and worry them through his fingers. "Let's change the subject, shall we?" she said, smiling again. "I don't have the authorization to clear you to return home, but Director Fury does. We can visit the helicarrier, which is where he'll be. What do you say? I'll get you a room with a view and maybe a good, hearty meal."
Almost as an after thought, Beth added, "Or you can be stubborn and make my life difficult. Fair warning, agha Shoja, I'm skilled in disarming even the most difficult opponents, and the brig [brig = jail/prison on a naval/coast guard vessel] is not nearly as nice as the officer's quarters I'm offering you."
I would respond to beth but the food part isn't clicking. W-weh

Stuck in Customs
He watched the woman speak to the TSA agents and degrade them into nothing. The men that had held him captive, and were harassing him, were belittled in minutes with few words. He was most intrigued by the fact that she spoke his native tongue beautifully, she had an accent and wasn’t exactly fluent but it was shocking for him to see an American speaking his tongue. When she released him from the cuffs, he rubbed his wrists as there are dents to where he struggled to break the cuffs free.
The Russians and Pakistanis barely spoke the language when they were neighbors, an American speaking Dari was very interesting to him. But he was probably most intrigued with her when she fired them over merely them doing their jobs. He understood why they did it but they didn’t realize exactly who he was that it annoyed him, let alone his anger.
“Agha is my father, call me Aslan….but who are you?” He asked wanting to know more about his hero. “And I’m not here for some training, I just want to go back home.”
Beth studied Aslan for a moment before replying, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Aslan, I'm Agent Ross... but you can call me Beth." The agent took the empty chair and spun it around so she could sit in it backwards and lean against the back rest. "You're free to do as you please, but may I ask you something?" She waited for a response, but when none came, she continued. "Why would the Afghan government beg us to train you just to have you turn around and go home?"
Like the parting of clouds, Beth's grimace evaporated, leaving behind a big-hearted smile. "Is it the food? I wouldn't blame you if it was."
Stuck in Customs
Aslan had been sent by his people in a humiliating punishment of going to America for training. In order to take his place as one of the panjsher [five lions] he had to prove himself and get over his anger problems. At the age of 27, he felt this was all ridiculous as his anger helped him beat his enemies so far, yet to this day he’s a laughing stock amongst the five chosen Leonine people. Just thinking of all of this was beginning to annoy him and with that he took out his tasbah [Islamic prayer beads; sorta like a rosary but has 99 beads to signify the 99 names of Allah] from his pocket and began to say his prayers to himself.
Once the plane had landed he took his carry on and carried it out of plane, onto the terminal and through the airport. His pace was rather fast as he was eager to get out of airport and meet with S.H.I.E.L.D. to tell them that he knew how to control his abilities so he can go back home. Upon arriving to Customs, Aslan was getting restless by these huge lines. Being of an elite Afghan force, he demanded to speak with a manager or “boss” so he could get through faster. Little did he realize his demand would get him cuffed and put into a private box of a room for questioning.
Aslan was getting pissed and would roar back that answers to their questions (with his accent of course, his English was far from perfect but good for someone with little outside contact):
“Why are you on US soil?” ”To speak with S.H.I.E.L.D. and get my ticket back home.” “Have you been banished from Afghanistan?” “No, you fool, I’ve been forced to study here.” “Study what? We know about you and the ‘Panjsher’.” “Let me speak to the United Nations immediately, they will have your job for holding me here.”
One of the men tases Aslan which only enrages him as he struggles to break out of the cuffs. For some reason he couldn’t transform to his lion form and he wasn’t sure why.
“Chi cardin, khar!” [What did you do, you donkey! — note: being called a donkey is the equivalent of jackass but it directly translates to donkey so I kept it that way.]
As he continued to struggle, the officers laughed at the mutant as they would continue to tase him every so often. It’s a shame Afghanistan would proudly label their protectors, the Panjsher, in official documents. It was because of the viewing of his passport and just overall appearance [with the Iran revolutions; they weren’t sure if he was a radical Islamist] they had labelled him as trouble.
"Gentlemen!" A voice shouted from the doorway. Agent Elizabeth Ross stepped in, dressed in her black S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform, wearing a grimace she had spent hours perfecting in front of her bathroom mirror. "I use that term very loosely, of course." She moved forward with quick, decisive steps, yanking the handcuff keys from the man in charge. Beth kneeled and unlocked the cuffs from around Aslan's ankles and wrists, offering him a sympathetic look.
[In Dari, to Aslan] "I'm sorry for these idiots. They understand very little," she told him, rising to her feet. "This man is a diplomat from Afghanistan, boys. What you've done here has just cost you your jobs. Congratulations. Say hi to the people at the Unemployment offices." Beth turned and glowered at the TSA agents, looking like she could spit venom. "Leave...now."
Without waiting for another word, the men leave, closing the door behind them. As soon as their alone, Beth seems to deflate with a heavy sigh. "I really, truly, am sorry, agha Shoja. If you'll come with me, we can head back to the helicarrier where you'll be training."
He took the bill, he wasn’t going to let her pay. “A stroll sounds nice, last year around this time we were busy with an attack and I didn’t get to check anything out.” He removes his wallet and takes out more than enough to cover the bill and tip. Smiling he continues, “so it’d be great to check it out, maybe even go ice skating? If it’s still around, that is.”
"It is, actually! I didn't know you ice skated." Beth got up and walked out of the burger place with Steve. "What else do you like to do in your down time? I hear you draw," she said, looking up at him with a smile.

Embarrassed he ended up laughing about the milk mustache after she wiped it off of him. Stuffed and quite happy about the amazing meal they had just had he smiles, “if not better. I’ve got to say that I’m ashamed I didn’t know about this place years ago, I would have been a frequent after school.”
Beth gave Cap a bright-eyed grin. "I'm glad you liked it. Thank you for putting up with me and May. Um... did you want to walk back to the tower, or are you up for a little stroll? Rockafeller Center looks beautiful at night, with all the Christmas lights strung up..." She said, shyly, extracting her wallet and paying the bill.
“Your funeral,” Beth joked, returning Steve’s smile. At least he didn’t high-tail it out of there, like she half-expected him to. That was good, right?
May came back a few minutes later, arms full with plates of food for the pair. She set them down on the table in front of their prospective owners, offering them naught but a smirk before returning to the kitchen. Beth wanted to shout out a snide remark, but thought better of it, instead lifting her milkshake to Steve in toast. “To The Avengers!” she cheered, clinking her glass against his.
He smiled and raised his glass, “to the Avengers!” Clinking his glass against hers, he brought it back towards him and drank the froth on top of the great looking shake. It tasted just like he remembers them tasting, not the stuff Tony tries to make in the kitchen. After taking a few sips of the milkshake he ended up getting a mustache thanks to the froth and hadn’t realized.
He looks at the nicely sized burger and holds it in his hands, bringing it up for a large Steve sized bite.
Beth watched Steve take an enormous bite of his burger and tried to suppress a giggle when she realized he had a milk mustache. "Um, Steve? Hold still for a moment." Carefully, she leaned over the table and wiped the mustache away with the pad of her thumb. "There. You were sporting a milkshake mustache," she explained, sitting back and picking up her own burger. The pair fell silent as they dug into their food, every once in a while, looking up to smile and nod in approval.
"How is it? As good as you remember?" she asked, smiling.
He shook his head, despite how things started it was all…humorous in a way. Also, he wasn’t going to leave her the bill. “There’s no reason to leave, in fact, despite it not turning out the way I expected for it to, it’s still a good time we’re having here.” He smiled, honestly and earnestly as he always does. He also wasn’t going to miss the chance to get to know his fellow hero and try the food but those were in the back of his mind and not the reason he refused her offer of bailing out on their not so quite date.
"Your funeral," Beth joked, returning Steve's smile. At least he didn't high-tail it out of there, like she half-expected him to.
"To The Avengers!" she cheered, clinking her glass against his.
May was rather blunt but it was that approach that caused him to understand. His face now red, he avoided speaking and was instead pointing to the items he had mentioned to Beth just moments ago on the menu. When he finished ordering, he held up his menu to cover his face as if he were looking for something else to eat.
After a few seconds, he found his menu had been taken by May and had then avoided eye contact with Beth because of his embarrassment. Trying to figure out how to change the topic he blurts out, “nice day, huh?”
"W-wonderful," Beth squeaked. She cleared her throat and sat up straight, looking Steve directly in the eye. "Sir, I know this isn't going as well as either of us had previously thought. If you want to go, please, don't stay on my behalf. Just...can we not speak of this ever again?" she asked, smiling sheepishly.
Seeing Beth’s annoyed look at May, he decided to say something about it. “Ma’am, it seems to bother Agent Ross here when you make such bold and incorrect statements. I don’t think you’d want one of your favorite customers being rather displeased,” Steve was rather naive and oblivious, one second he understands the situation, the other he thinks the accusations are because she’s not quite comfortable with him.
“I’m sorry about that, I just wish for her not to make such a face when she truly really seems to adore you as if you were her own family.”
"No, Steve, it's okay. I'm not angry with May, just incredibly embarrassed," Beth explained, smiling at him and then at the waitress.
May rolled her eyes in an amicable way. "You are pretty, but you're thick, Mister Steve. She's got the hots for you, that's why she's embarrassed and givin' me the stink eye. Anyway, sweetheart, what'll you have?" she asked, ignoring the way Beth sunk down in her seat.
Beth was ready to commit seppuku with the butter knife. This was NOT the way she had pictured dinner with Cap.

The food looked and sounded good but he was craving a good old hamburger and shake, so without a doubt when she asked he didn’t hesitate to answer with just that, even if the other food seemed appetizing. “Maybe some french fries too,” being a large man, it’d do more than just that to keep him full especially with his metabolizing, but it’s something he’d rather not pig out on when it’s their first time there.
“What would you be having?” He asked as he placed down his menu, looking right at Beth.
Beth set her menu down, too, folding her hands together. "Good choice. I tend to get the cheeseburger deluxe with a side of french fries, and a strawberry shake." Beth wasn't the kind of woman to worry about what she ate in front of men--her metabolism was high, though not nearly as high as Steve's, and she had to keep up her strength. She waved her hand at May and waited as the woman trotted over with a notepad in hand.
"What'll it be, lovebirds?" May asked, her eyes sparkling.
Beth shot the woman a displeased look before answering her question, "The usual, please, May."
Steve at first was cautious of the older woman, but May soon reminded him even more of “home” and had caused him to become quite comfortable. As he watched the two women discuss and the embarrassment that was amused by it all. He was lightly laughing, keeping a hand over his mouth to avoid being rude but even with his mouth covered you could tell by the light red hues on the apples of his cheekbones and the fact that his eyes were smiling. He avoided making a sound though.
When May mentioned how Steve should be Beth’s boyfriend, he nearly choked. Actually, he briefly and momentarily had, quickly he stopped himself and watched as the older woman had left.
Steve merely shook his head, “no…don’t be…,” he took a menu and was awkwardly looking for something to change the topic and began to peruse.
Beth picked up her menu to hide her face behind it, under the guise that she was looking for something that sounded tasty. "What sounds good to you?" she asked, amicably, trying to keep the strain from her voice. The next time she came in--alone--she would have to have a serious talk with May. Deep down, Beth knew the woman was just trying to be nice, but good Lord!
