âIf I have learned anything in this long life of mine, it is this: in love we find out who we want to be; in war we find out who we are.â
â Kristin Hannah, The Nightingale
xcourtesy-callx:
For Dakota, it was especially hard for her to trust people, whether they were civilians or other soldiers like her. She had lost so many people she grew to trust and love over the years, so she was careful on who she talked and worked with, not letting them get close until she knew for a fact that they were ok. If she ever got close enough to anyone though, sheâd stay protective and loyal to the very end(unless they betray her, then theyâve got a problem on their hands.) But, Roya, in this case, seemed to be ok in her book, which was a good thing for both parties. Not surprisingly enough though, it took a long while for task force to gain her trust and liking..yet there was just one person she didnât like and was wary of in that entire group..and that guy was yuri. Still, it made her sad that most of her second family wasnât around and here anymore. War definitely sucks ass.
Dakota let out an amused snort at her comment before saying,â Alright, thatâs fine. I gotta see the doc anyway. Time to do a checkup on my wounds.â She pointed out.â Dont worry though, I get changed pretty quickly.â She added.
âOkay then. See you laterâ she gave Dakota a slight nod and got up, walking straight to the barracks. Roya entered her small bathroom and looked at the mirrow. Her sadness and sorrow was written all over her face, multiple years of war could really destroy a persons sanity.
It wasnÂŽt like she was insane, not that but she seemed pretty exhausted and less happy than before. Sometimes she wishes her old normal life back. A life with parents, siblings, children and husband. But that seemed over now, it was too late for her.Â
In the end she didnŽt complain. It was her choice after all. Roya took her time and tried to put make up on, trying to hide all the scars and look a bit fresher. After she got in her black jeans and darkgreen shirt she walked out of her room. Making her way to the trucks.
Her fingers were wrapped tightly around her wallet while she thought of her favourite bar.

Dakota beamed alittle at this as her smile grew a bit. She was honesty glad and thankful for the people and soldiers that were still around and kicking it with her. She was also Glad she still had people to relate and talk to about anything. And this moment was no exception. It felt good being able to still make friends in times like this.
But she was snapped out of her thoughts once more when she felt Roya place a hand on her shoulder, causing her to look up at the soldier now. However, upon hearing her comment, the Scottish woman couldnât help but smirk and chuckle with her.â Aye..you got that right.â She said, agreeing to both points. Dakota was honestly glad she had the chance to meet and know a soldier like him. The both of em were quite a team together, and that was always a fun time during missions.
âHm, id really like that, actually. But I need to get changed myself actually.â She pointed out.â Wanna meet up in the garage? Take one of the jeeps?â
Roya was also really thankful to have people with who she could talk about anything. And it was easy to talk to Dakota as a friend because she went through the same as Roya. And also maybe because she thought of Dakota as a friend. They were comrades after all. They went through rough times together and Roya trusted Dakota. Trusting someone in war was a hard thing to do but if someone got Royas trust, then this person seemed to be in Royas heart. Dakota definitly was. She would give her life anytime to save hers. Roya felt the same for Captain Price, Captain MacTavish, Sandman, Grinch, Truck, Frost, Roach...and even Ghost. She wasnÂŽt sure about Yuri but she tried to trust him, too. Thinking about all these people who used to be next to Roya broke her heart.
Dakotas reaction made Roya happy. She wanted Dakota to have positive thoughts. Even though Roya knew what the last image of Captain MacTavish in their heads was, she still wanted a good memory of him. And not the bloody, dead body on the table. Roya wanted to remember his smile, his loud voice. She wanted him alive in her thoughts.
âThat sounds perfect. Lets meet in an hour. I need some time to get readyâ she said as she laughed at her own comment about herself.Â

âA real charmer â she repeated Dakotas words with a soft smile on her lips. No other words could describe this man better than these ones. He may be a giant and rough man on the outside. But as a comrade you get to know him. And it was clear that this man had a good soul. In Royas eyes he was near perfection. Even with his stupid mohawkâŠhis stupid but also lovely mohawk.
She used to dislike men. She made bad experience with them. But John MacTavish was her only hope that there were still men outside that were actually good people. Men that arenât selfish, men that were faithful and loyal. And now this man is gone.
âAbsolutely. If we both make it, then I invite you to a cool vacation trip. Iâm serious â Roya gave her companion a soft smile. A smile that wasnât forced. It was a real smile that showed nothing else than kindness and also gratefulness.
Dakotas last question made Roya silence. It really seemed like it. But Roya couldnât admit it. Or maybe she didnât wanted to admit it. But it was clear that she had a thing for her dead superior. That was one of the reasons  why she was so sad. Why she sat there crying in grief. Her kind smile turned into a nervous, sad and also shy smile. She looked Dakota in her eyes. Looking uncertain she shrugged her shoulder.
" It doesnât matter now â
Is Dakota had known about her bad expierences, she wouldâve completely understood. She also had countless of bad expierences with men on her youth, and just with people in general. This made her so wary and untrusting of people, and even when she arrived in the task force, she was always grumpy and always on the defense. It took everyone a long time to finally relax and trust them. But MacTavish broke through her defenses just a wee bit faster then everyone else. And they soon became the best of friends and were there for each other, so the fact that she couldnât save him really left itâs toll on her.
âIâd honestly like that. Just have some girls trip or whatever. I know I bloody need one right about now.â She said as she smiled back at her.
However, when she asked her question, she watched the soldierâs expression change and she could only frown slightly. That gave her the answer she needed.â I see..â she said as she glanced at the ground for a moment.ââŠwe should go and try to do something, get our minds off of this.â
âPerfect. I know many great places were we could go easily. But my little boy would come with usâ Roya smiled at the thought of her 4 year old son. She really missed him. She decided to stay with him after the wars over. While she was here with her team, Royas brother and his wife took care of her little son. It was for both of them a hard time. But Roya needed her job so she could give her son anything he wanted.
âAnd you? You really liked him too, right ? I donât blame youâŠâ she sighed but gave Dakota the same sad smile. It was a little awkward between the two but these feelings made the two of them human.
âYeahâŠhow about we visit a bar? I really need a drink â
She wasnât the one for drinking. But after her life reached its climax sh changed. Her whole life changed. War, cigarettes, shisha and alcohol became her life. She was used to it. And right now she needed a good cocktail.
âAww, of course. Iâm absolutely fine with that.â Dakota said, her smile growing more. Not only did she loved traveling, but she also liked little kids. This had also made her think of her brother and his little family back in the states. His kids must be so big now, she thought.â Just tell me where and when and Iâll be ready to go in no time.â She added.
However, she was not prepared for Royaâs question, and this had caused her to stiffen up alittle.â IâŠyesâŠyou could say that.â She said reluctantly. She honestly hated telling people who she fancied..and she felt bad for admitting she liked the captain as well. It just didnât seem fair..but it was what it was. And they couldnât help that.
She then took in a deep breathe before looking up at her again.â Yes, pleaseâŠâ Dakota responded after a moment.â Iâm sure we both need it right about now..â
Dakota didnât have an issue with this. She had started drinking when she was 16 and been around friends and people who smoked and did drugs, and her life in general had been a sad, fucked up ond since she was 4, so really she should be used to this by now.
"I definitely will" it was a big relief to hear that she had nothing against children. So the idea of them going on vacation together was even better now. She already knew many places they could visit. Were they could hang out, get to know each other more. And just heal the wounds in their souls.
Back at the Captains topic she placed a hand on Dakotas shoulder. Many women would be jealous right now but Roya was calm. She just understood her feelings. In addition Roya didn't had any hopes for the Captain and herself. Why would this handsome man choose her ? Why would this handsome man take a divorced woman who had a little child anyway? That's what Roya asked herself all the time. The wish of getting closer to the Captain was just a big dream. Which was never meant to be real. "It's ok. But unfortunately we aren't the only ones who like him. But we were the ones who were close to him. Who were his friends...they weren't " she joked and pointed at some women, started giggling. It was true and Roya was thankful that she was his teammate. That she was good with him.
"Exactly. I know a bar. We can go there an...chat. And just relax. Are you ready ? 'Cause I need to change clothes and stuff "
cobrafromtf141:
âYeah. For the moment. Right now Captain MacTavish is in charge. He does a great job. I trust himâ her eyes sparkled as she told him what she thought about her superior. She really hoped that MacTavish would be there til the end. Being the one killing Makarov with his own hands.
His growl snaped her out of her thoughts and made her look away for a second. She felt a bit embarrassed because it was obvious what she thought of her Captain. Hearing that he really was the other Russian dude made her smile a bit.
âYeah right, Yuri. Iâm Cobra. Itâs not long since I joined the Task Force. â she never heard of the name Yuri before which was probably the reason why she forgot it so easily.
â Do youâŠknow Nikokai? Are you friends?â Roya finally asked due to his reaction when she mentioned Nikokai earlier.
@asoldierofrussiaâ
The sparkle in her eyes as she talks about the Captain does not go unnoticed, but Yuri knows better than to comment on it. She is far from the only person on base throwing glances in MacTavishâs direction, and Yuri knows better than any that Johnâs natural charisma is hard to resist.
âCobra?â He assumes it is a nickname. Everyone he has met at the 141 so far has had a nickname of some kind.
âYes, he and I - â Yuri pauses. His and Nikolaiâs relationship is not one that he can simply summarize, especially not to a stranger. âWe go a long way back.â
She was glad that Yuri didn't comment on her gaze when she talked about her Captain. She just gave him a thankful smile and played with her dark brown hair to find a distraction.
"Some call me Lieutenant Rashid. But you can call me Cobra. Honestly I don't care which one you call me " she shrugged and crossed her arms over her chest.
Now Roya was curious about Yuri and Nikokai. But it would be inappropriate to ask him about it just yet. Since he seemed like he didn't wanted to talk about it. So she didn't bother him.
"That's interesting! I didn't know that. He was probably the one bringing you here right ? Man...we all had someone bringing us here " she leaned back and searched for her cigarettes in her pockets. Thinking about the person who brought her to the Task Force. General Shepherd.
" I guess I owe you one, doctor"
âOwing your life to your medical officer is just an occupational hazard.â Lara smiles, looking up from the bandages that she has just finished securing to Cobraâs body. She reaches for her notebook and jots down a quick note for her records.Â
âBut seriously⊠donât worry about it. They would have no reason to pay me if I didnât patch you guys up every once in a while. Howâs the pain? I can give you more medication if you need it.âÂ
Being shot in the shoulder was a scary experience. At first Roya thought she was going to die. Seing the blood on her chest, feeling the huge pain that went from her shoulder up to her hip. But when she was moved by her team mates and ended up in the infirmary, she knew that she would surviveâŠagain. And good thing that their doctor was such a good soul.
âI know that. But there is one thing that distinguishes you from other doctorsâ Roya took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Trying to ignore the pain. âSome doctors do theyâre job. Bandage the wounds. But they leave their patients after thatâŠbut youâŠyou gave me hopeâŠthat Iâm going to make itâŠ.I just wanted to thank you for thatâ a little smile appeared on her dry lips. Showing how thankful she was that Bones was there.
âYeahâŠI think I need more medsâŠthe painâs killing me â
Lara smiles, ducking her head to hide the slight blush that tinges her cheeks and the tips of her ears. Her poor attempt at humour had been an attempt to reassure her patient and instead she somehow ended up receiving a compliment she hadnât expected to hear. Itâs a nice feeling and certainly a change from the usual jokes or sarcastic comments that she gets from the other men.Â
âHeyâŠâ She reaches out, a genuine smile across her features and gives the other womanâs forearm a gentle squeeze of reassurance. âWeâre teammates. Itâs my job to patch you up, but itâs also my job to take care of you. No one makes it out of situations alive unless we work together, right?âÂ
Noting Cobraâs reply, she checks her wristwatch and makes another note in her notebook. With the keys around her neck, she unlocks her medical cupboard, reaching for a sterile syringe and a medicine bottle.Â
âOne quick injection and your shoulder will feel a million times better, I swear.âÂ
A soft smile formed Royas lips after she processed Laras words. Working together was really the key. And the reality was that comrades looked out for each other. Comrades were like a family. And Roya was loyal and also very attached to her comrades...well...to most of them at least.
No matter in what situation she would be in she would definitely try and save her comrades. Even if it means to sacrifice herself. At some point she was selfless. The lives of her comrades were more important to her than her own life. She would definitely catch a grenade for her teammates. Anytime, in any minute.
Looking at the syringe in Laras hand Roya took a deep breath. She hated needles. Or more like she was a little scared of them. "O-okay. If it really works then I have to go through it " she said unwillingly and quiet. But she knew that this was good for her. So she closed her eyes and let Lara do her work.
She knew that Lara would probably notice her fear. It was obvious...kinda like it was written all over her face. She hated herself for that. Hated that her emotions were easy to read. Luckily that was the only thing that was easy to find out about her.

Yuri cannot help the surprised look flashing across his face. He is used to the cynical, often violent attitude of young men. The womanâs enthusiasm is different; Yuri is unsure of itâs genuine or if she is mocking him.Â
âWhat a shame you are not in charge,â he says, tilting his head slightly as he studies her face. She is new, he realizes, or at least new to him.Â
His surprised look made her grin for a short moment. Especially because she didnât see that coming. But the way he studied her face made her feel uncomfortable. Or just the fact that he looked at her face more than a few seconds.
âI know right ? Could have done many things betterâŠbut itâs okay how things are at the moment â that was a joke but it also showed the truth about her self-confidence. Most of the time she presented herself the best she could and that included showing self-confidence. Thatâs what she was taught when she was just a kid.
âHmmmâŠNikolai told me earlier that there is another Russian man. I guess itâs you rightâŠ.? Sorry I totally forgot your nameâ
âFor the moment?â He echoes, tilting his head a little further to the side, grey eyes never leaving the womanâs face. Yuri has met his share of men in power, each worse than last, but John MacTavish is an entirely different kind, a diamond among coals -Â
He groans at the mention of Nikolai, immediately nervous of what his brother may have told this woman about him.Â
âI suspect so,â he answers, rubbing the back of his neck with his right hand.Â
It has been two weeks, and he is still not sure about introducing himself to members of the 141, especially without the Captain within earshot.Â
âMy name is Yuri,â he finally says.
"Yeah. For the moment. Right now Captain MacTavish is in charge. He does a great job. I trust him" her eyes sparkled as she told him what she thought about her superior. She really hoped that MacTavish would be there til the end. Being the one killing Makarov with his own hands.

" Do you...know Nikokai? Are you friends?" Roya finally asked due to his reaction when she mentioned Nikokai earlier.
cobrafromtf141:
âGeneral Shepherd send me here. He thought I was good enough for the Task Force. So you might as well have to trust me. Iâm here for a reasonâ For a moment she cursed the General for transferring her to the Task Force 141.
She kept quiet the whole time he explained his idea of a good plan. It could work but for her it was to risky. But she didnât say anything. She was the new one here. She thought that it would be inappropiate to talk so much at her first day. And even if he was pissed at her the others shouldnât dislike her tooâŠor at least Roya thinks he dislikes her. It was really hard to read this man.
His last words made her laugh for a second. She stepped back and looked at him with narrowed eyes. âInsecurities? Says the man who covers his face with a mask. Anyway GhostâŠor who the fuck you are, weâre comrades now. So we might as well get along. Come one. Stop it. And Iâll stop too. We donât have to be best friendsâŠbut at least let us stop this bullshitâŠwe are both adults. And I donât want any problems. Not with anyone and especially not with my other Lieutenant. â Roya thought about her words and she was right. She felt sorry because she knew what she did was wrongâŠand unnecessary. She still thought that he was a mean and also hard to work with man. But she had to try her best to work with him and should avoid problems. Could be hard but it was her duty.
âI hope youâŠagree with meâ She held out her petite hand so Ghost would take and shake it. Officially ending this fight that turned childish and she also felt the need to leave this room. She was a soldier. Yes. But inside this hard shell was a emotional woman. She missed here team already. Promised Frost to Skype with him when there was time. The emptiness in her heart got bigger and she realised how much she loved Team Metal when she looked at Ghost. Ghost was a stranger to her. Someone who pushed her from him. And seeing him made her realise how much she appreciated her former team mates and how much they meant to her.
âTrust is earned, not fucking given.â
When MacTavish had handed him the promotion, Ghost had accepted it out respect. The deep trust heâd grown for the Captain over the years, making the choice far easier than it was hard. There were very few people left that Ghost trusted -Â very few people that heâd put himself on the line for..
MacTavish was one.
Cobra was not.
The dig at his uniform earns the woman a flat look - Ghost hardly one to be concerned over his aesthetic. The skull mask is a part of his gear - the slip of material simply another facet of his tactical kit, which heâd tugged on earlier after rolling out of bed at two oâclock in the morning for their weekly CQC training exercises.
âI can save your life without needing to give a shit about it, mate.â Ghost ignores most of her words, hackles raised. The offered hand hangs in the air in front of him, but he refuses to grasp it, instead crossing his arms. âIf you didnât want a fight, you shouldnât have started one you couldnât finish.â
Silence filled the room after Ghost finished his sentence. Everyone looked at the two Lieutenants with wide eyes. Except for Captain MacTavish. He wasn't surprised. It was like he knew that this was coming. And to be honest Roya was afraid of this situation before she came here. She knew the start would be hard. And Ghost was making things harder for her. She wanted to say something. Wanted to defend herself. But nothing came out of her mouth. She was just staring at him with shock and also surprise.
It was rare that someone could make her speechless... the way that Ghost did.
After she put herself together she took a deep breath. A quiet growl was leaving her throat. Even a blind person could sense that Roya was swallowing her anger down. It just wouldn't help any of them if they would continue this useless fight.
"It's not that I can't finish this fight, Ghost. You're underestimating me and you're stubborn. But you know what? A wise man changes his mind, a fool never will. Remember this." Her voice wasn't loud but shaking. Anyone could've noticed that she was really pissed off.
"Captain? I had a long flight and I have many things to do. Can I -"
"You're dismissed, Cobra" Roya smiled at MacTavish and nodded thankfully. "I'll see you tomorrow on time" with that she turned one last time to Ghost.
" See you on our first mission together...comrade"
